IRATE SUPERMAN is the hero we all need and deserve, really, one of the last true retro heroes of this media. Best part, my uncle from USA got me the limited edition watch and coin of the death and return of superman, i still treasure it now since 1993 and it was a fun and interesting series of comics with a really cool twist. btw, still a huge fan of superman until today, i still hang the crest on my rear view mirror and have a bobble head in my car. and yes, Chris rocks, no doubt.

You have idea how blessed I man to still see you make videos after all these years!!! My first video I watched was jaws which I would love for you to remaster it and talk about how to get the power ups and the little submarine you obtained later in the game which you forgot to mentioned it. Which the video now is like 14-15 years and times sure does fly… but again love the fact that you still do videos and can’t wait to see your channel grow!

I am a fan of Superman as a kid, and I wanted to say the death and return of Superman would make an excellent Superman 5 movie considering the characters involved such as the multiple superman's. I would even throw in Superwoman to this case. This could have been a great game if they put more effort with more characters and story in it.

Seems like IRATE Gamer is going back to his traditional video review format. (Setup with optional gag, review, conclusion dialog with optional ending gag.) My only complaint with the previous two review videos was that the videos seemed to have ended suddenly, without warning. So much so, that when KZbin thumbnails for the next video popped-up, I was caught off-guard. The reviews felt like there was more to be said, but instead it ended without some conclusive dialog or wrap-up scene. We got it this time.

The music at the beginning is from the Superman arcade game from the 80s. I just added it to my Pi. It's generic as hell, but pretty fun. Nowhere near as good as the Konami X-Men game from the 90s, but solid

The death and return of Superman would have made an interesting set up for Superman 5 the movie, picking up from Superman 4 a Quest for peace which was the last Christopher Reeves movie, which they hated the film for ending the franchise. I am not crazy about Superman returns and Man of Steel reboots, but I honestly would have liked to seen Superman 5 pick up even with Superman 4 bad reputation. The characters from death and return of Superman are interesting with the different superman. Also it would be really good to see the Supergirl come in. Contrary to what all people said I still prefer the designs of Superman 1-4 for its originality and design that resembles the comics and realistic portrayal of Superman.

Awesome episode. I think I first learned about this game during the "Pre-KZbin" days or in a magazine, can't really remember when I first heard of this game. What's even sadder is that this game was published by "Sunsoft", the same company responsible for "Blaster Master", "Batman", and "Gremlins 2:The New Batch" for the NES. Granted the graphics are nice, but graphics really aren't everything. Also rad work with the opening and closing skits.

Another great review, Chris! Yeah, The Death and Return of Superman game was kind of a letdown to me, too. It just wasn't as good as I hoped it would be. Still, it's at least playable compared to Superman 64. Speaking of which, I hope you review that game soon, too. Good Lord, that game is awful beyond belief! But hey, if AVGN had to suffer through playing it, I think the Irate Gamer should also have to suffer through playing it, too, lol. Anyway, awesome work!

I was actually fooled with this game. Back in my childhood i bought this game for Sega Mega Drive 2 and was expecting to play a cool Superman game, but when i put that cartridge in to my sega, i was shocked after finding out that, instead of Death of Superman, i got simple Superman game made by Sunsoft! The one platformer game, where you start on the rooftops, beating up some badguys, later fly up the building to fight against that dude, that throws flowers from his hat at you. I have no idea, what's his name, cause i don't know all Superman's enemies, but man, i was pissed so badly that, i smashed my controller in to a wall. Cause, i was expecting to play Death of Superman, but instead got that freaking game by Sunsoft. Sure, Sunsoft made some cool games, and first Batman game for Mega Drive was my favorite from them, but man, i hate that Superman game made by Sunsoft very much, cause you can only beat first two levels, and third level and rest of them are pain in the a$$. Sure, i played it after i got a PC and good internet, via emulator, but still, the impression could be different if i had a real chance to play this game back in my childhood. But now, this game is kinda cool, but it is unfair AF. I only managed to get to a Superboy level, where you play as him, and that is where this game ends for me.

I liked this game a lot as a kid, I only had a genesis growing up until my cousin gave me his old snes when he got a playstation and this was one of the first games I played but im biased because beat em ups and RPGs have always been my favorite game genres

i actually like the game as a kid. I liked all the supermen, but the cyborg was the coolest one. I just found the game incredibly hard. I reached all the way to the end levels, but there was one part that I would get my butt kicked every time, and if my memory serves me right, I think there are limited continues. Memory is a little foggy.

That was a cool thumbnail I admit. Cool intro and way to celebrate 30 years of this event. The animated movies were good too. Did hate how the damn game has cutscenes after so many boss's where it makes you lose anyway, but you gotta win in game. 4:20 good idea and I feel the same way with beat/shoot 'em ups today which why bother if 1 player? Pocky and rocky reshrined was bad making you beat the game to unlock 2 player, lol just play the original.

I was more forgiving toward this game. I know it's a beat 'em up, but I liked that about the SNES Batman Returns, so this really hit the spot for me. Plus, the soundtrack is good. I also ended up reading Roger Stern's novel of the story around this time rather than the comic book. I recommend checking it out.
