We all know that the dinosaurs went extinct millions of years ago, but what exactly happened? Research into some brand new fossils may have given us a much better idea of exactly what happened on the day that the dinosaurs died out...

My fav dinosaur is the Ankylosaurus, because I love how badass it is despite being a herbivore. It's like one of the most armoured dinosaurs and it has a fucking club for a tail, but it only uses it all for defense. Idk about y'all but that's mad respect 🦕🦖 Can't wait to watch this episode btw!

Interestingly the ornithischians (who split from the saurichians which would become sauropods and theropods, and thus birds) have a name meaning "bird hip" despite being the dinosaurs least related to modern birds, which I find quite funny

My favorite dinosaur is stegosaurus. I'm fascinated by the plates on it's back. Volcanic glass (obsidian) isn't just black. My favorite kind is called snowflake obsidian, it has white inclusions, which I understand to be essentially ash flakes. I've also seen brown and striated obsidian. I love obsidian. :)

This year was really hard for me but your podcasts helped me a lot! It’s so relaxing to listen to a podcast with such a respectful hosts. I don’t need to worry about you being sexist, racist, homophonic and transphobic and it’s very cool. Definitely would recommend it to anybody who wants to be smarter and learn a lot of interesting stuff. Thank you!!!!

Talking about Age of Ultron and how brilliant that plan was: Babylon 5 did something similiar, with one species, the Centauri, using their spaceships to drop asteroids on a species they conquered but that rebelled, quote "bombing them back into stone age". Naturally this is considered the worst war crime on can possibly commit and actually forbidden in space warfare. Quite horrifying scene. Has the ambassador of that species (who is relatively safe away on the title giving space station) weeping as he learns about it, and the until then villain who was behind most of the war efforts watching from space, absolutly horrified, and finally understanding what he did. Good series. Ah, and not really a dinosaur in the scientific sense, but I really do love Pteranondons

Oh my gosh I had no idea this episode existed until now I’m so excited I’m shaking!!!! The K-Pg extinction is one of my favourite topics considering it’s a) as recent as it is, b) it’s history within science and c) just how popularised it is because everyone loves dinosaurs lol

With the cake/Earth layer thing… I’m wondering what differentiates one layer from the next. If it’s time, then how much time does it take for one layer to form/when does it go into the next layer?

Geology student here! I am right at the begining of the video so I'm not sure but I'm assuming they were either talking about the bedding (layers of rock) in the earth which stack on top of eachother like a cake, or that the earth has much larger scale layers and the mantle. With the bedding (which are the horizontal stripes you might see if you look at a cliff) every time the rock being formed changes in some way which is visible, like it might change in composition or colour, or it might become harder or crumblier or be made of smaller bits rather than bigger bits or something like that, you can see the change and a new bed happens. So all the stripes can be slightly different composition of a similar thing due to small changes in the environment, or they can be drastically different. There isn't really a set amount of time before a new bed forms, it just depends on how long it takes for the environment to change enough that it starts making a different kind of rock. For example, if the part you were looking at was in a shallow marine environment you see green glauconite in it because you get that under the sea, but then the sea level environment might fall so right on top of that marine rock you might get rocks associated with a beach environment, and them the sea level might continue to fall so that the e part you were looking at was actually just dry land and you might get some red rock because any iron content might be in contact with the air and go rusty. Then if they were talking about big layers filling the interior of the earth like the mantle and the core, they say that the earth may have started homogenous (which is like all the same through it with no layers or anything) and then all the different constituents that made up the earth sorted them selves out according to properties like their density and the really dense stuff fell to the middle what with gravity and the lighter stuff floated to outside. I hope that makes sense! :)

Did you really use the Jurassic Park "velociraptors" in your thumbnail? Do you know how inaccurate they are?? Edit: I know I sound upset here but I am actually amused because of the irony since these dinosaurs never existed like this in the first place.
