lol i am so old i remember the issue of Guitar Techniques that had the announcement that Guthrie Govan had joined their office as a teaboy and occasional transcriber/contributor!

Same here, lol! Yeah, I remember when Guthrie was just some young man adding to the odd contribution, great days!👍

I discovered Guitar Techniques at 2003 and was blown away by the material covered in the magazine. Especially Shaun Baxter's column was amazing. I wish someone could gather all of his lessons in a single compilation book, that would be a treasure.

Yeah, I agree!... It would be an encyclopaedia of guitar knowledge. There were so many amazing lessons from Shaun Baxter and Pete Callard and I do wonder what will happen to all of that material. For it to just be forgotten and the articles/lessons thrown aside would be insane as much of it was way better than i've ever seen in tuition books for guitar. Also, the lessons were really unique and creative. Buying the magazine was always magical, great days!👍

It took me ages to hear about guitar techniques, and I'd only gotten a subscription this year! it's a shame that a magazine based purely on tuition couldn't last longer, I've got about fourteen volumes that I can sink my teeth into and learn from, there are some real gems in them, even for the modern editions! I would love to see somewhere new established online that has a similar mindset of purely teaching without the gear obsession creeping in, something that could highlight both modern and new players, while giving a platform for transcribers to get their names known

Yeah, Guitar Techniques was a real quality magazine, there was nothing like it for in depth learning. An online version could be good, but, with the magazine there isn't any distractions when learning and so it's quicker to really absorb something and everything is learnt on a much deeper level. I think that's what also made the magazine special. Having said that I agree an online version is still a really good idea.👍

Great video. I could't agree more about how boring and retro those magazines became with Clapton, Hendrix, Slash and Jimmy Page. I used to love them in the 80s and 90s when you would get lessons from Tony Macalpine and Larry Coryell. My only qualm at the time was allot of it was super advanced. Great memories. Love your channel

Thanks Tristan! Yeah, many magazines became a bit lame in the end with the same guitarists and repetitive articles. I loved the late 80's early 90's American Guitar Player magazine, that one was really amazing with great aesthetic and brilliant lessons/articles. But, yeah I agree, great days, and it feels great to have been a part of it.👍

I bought all the issues on Guitar Techniques on the app and tossed out all my physical issues when i moved. They said when announcing ending the mag that i should download the issues and that the app would still allow me to use the mags. But now, the app never fully loads.. anyone know if there’s anything to do?
@CliffordMartinOnlineАй бұрын
Hi Mark, sorry I don't know. I only ever bought the physical magazines. But..You should contact them again and explain to them about the app and they should do something about it. If that's what they promised you about the app then they should and maybe legally should deliver.

@ thanks for your reply. Oddly enough, the very moment i got your comment the app started working (for now!)
