Really wish you had gone over the central eye and how to remove and reinstall it. ETA after a week of trying to figure it out: Tl;dr use hot water and a decent wedge tool. Alright folks, if you're feeling as let down by Den of Imagination's lack of forethought and other's not coming back to the comments to explain their methods about that central eye as I am, I've got a written rundown to help. Get yourself some hot water, but use good safety skills if you're using boiling water. I used a mug of hot water nuked for 3 minutes to boil. Go ahead and carefully dip the the skull into the water, just the forehead down to the top of the teeth if you can help it, and let it sit for a little while. This will soften the plastic enough to do what you gotta do. I used a chopstick that I cut down and fashioned into a wedge - I didn't want to use plastic because it would be too brittle, and metal would be too hard and possibly damage the mini, so wood was my go to for strength and durability. Once the plastic is good and soft start prying the eye with your chosen wedge tool (again, I used a chopstick). For me the difference was immediate, I had the eye moving side to side in seconds thanks to the heat. You may have to dip the head back into the water multiple times, and you may need to reheat your water if you take too long, but that's probably ideal as you don't want to rush this and damage anything. Eventually I was able to get the eye up just enough that I got my wedge tool in underneath it and gave it a good pry and it popped out. I did notice that there seemed to be a slight amount of glue used very sparsely on one spot that kept the piece anchored. You'll notice that during your struggle to pry the eye out that you may have dented it or otherwise taken the piece out of shape while prying, so, assuming your water is still reasonably hot, go ahead and drop the eye directly into the water so that it can reform to its original shape. Then take the skull itself and submerge it upside down in the water as well and let it sit for a reasonable amount of time (I put my chopstick wedge through the base between the clear stand piece and let it rest on the top of the mug) for the same reason - this will also allow you to adjust any of the "eyestalks" into a more desired position if, like mine, one of them was positioned so that it appeared to be looking behind the Tyrant. Once the heat of the water made everything snap back into place on mine, I held the offset "eyestalk" in the position I wanted it and then placed it into the freezer to let everything set. After, you're going to want to let it warm up and dry before doing anything else with it. Once it's nice and dry, get yourself some modeling primer (I have Army Painter grey primer) and use it to go over any spots where you may have accidentally removed preexisting primer while removing the eye. Now that this has finally been taken care of, I'll get on to painting when I have the time to do so. Thank you for your time in reading this, I hope it helps. Happy painting!

Follow up thoughts: don't be too aggressive with it if you can help it. The eye is hollow with a tube-like opening at the back. Use this to your advantage: because it's hollow it will bend and compress more as you push on it from either side, and eventually you can use the opening to sort of hook on to with your wedge tool from underneath to get that last little oomph to get it out.

I permanently removed the central eye and drilled out the floating eyes. The designer of this miniature didn't completely understand the project. Definitely didn't comprehend the reference art.

I don't have liquid mask, is it required for the model? The box said it came with everything I needed.

You don't need to have it :) It is just our way of making it. Just remember to be extra careful when painting some parts - with these kind of models it is very easy to dirt the parts you already painted :>

Liquid mask just prevents you from getting paint where you don't want it....All you have to do is paint carefully if you don't have it lmao.

Welp... Mine sucks. Couldn't figure out how to get the eye out and you didn't even try to tell us how... Cool tutorial, but I feel like taking out the eye may be essential and you should let people know how to do that.

I am sure your miniature is awesome! Can you share it on your social media and @ us? Our assemblers got the eye out on the spot using their usual tools, that is why it wasn't included in the tutorial. What is more getting the eye out isn't necessary to paint the miniature. You can paint it more carefully with the brush with a really thin tip or use a blu tack to avoid the eye geing stained.

Is anyone else having trouble getting the eyeball out of the center?
@gobblinal3 жыл бұрын
It took a LOT of work. I was lucky enough to have some sculpting tools that I could use to lever it out but I think it was jammed in there while the primer was still wet and so it was stuck GOOD! I don't understand why it wasn't packaged in a separate little baggie instead.

Bro, no written instructions is insane, also the vid shows brushes used not in the kit, the eyeball has been removed and not described in the painting- annoying. I tried to jot down the steps to use for myself cause I'm not dedicating my phone to youtube while I paint. See steps here vv Step 1: Base Coat German Camo. Black Brown Paint the skull, avoiding clear plastic and the base Step 2: Drybrush Medium Grey Drybrush the skull where the base color was put down Step 3: Drybrush Bonewhite Same as step 2 Step 4: Glaze Bonewhite with water so it is half transparent Highlight the high points while avoiding the dark low points. Repeat as desired. Step 5: Lining Ivory with water Fine line on top of high points on top of skull, rim of eye socket, high points on cheek bones, tips of teeth Step 6: Wash German Camo. Black Brown with water so that it is very transparent Apply to teeth and anywhere else you want dark pigment to sink into crevaces Step 7: Repeat step 5 Ivory with water Step 8: Glaze Mix Magenta with water Apply to eye socket and temple sockets. Repeat as desired. Step 9: Glaze Magenta Fluo with water Apply to places where Magenta was placed to make it look illuminated Step 10: Glaze Blue Green with water Add to underside of chin spikes, underside of cheekbones to create shadow Step 11: Drybrush Pale Blue Go over same places as Step 10 Step 12: Base Coat Black Paint the base black. Repeat layers as necessary to cover completely. Step 13: Drybrush Pastel Blue Drybrush the base with this color Step 14: Wash German Camo. Bright Green with water so that it is very transparent Wash the base with this color Step 15: Remove tape/masking fluid if used Step 16: Wash Magenta Fluo with water so it is somewhat transparent Paint the tips of the tentacles Step 17: Gloss Gloss Varnish Start with a dry brush so as not to dilute the gloss Paint the tips of the tentacles Step Never Coverd: Eyeball Magenta Fluo? Paint the iris/pupil area of the eyeball???

I just completed the Zombie Ogre Paint Night tutorial and started this one. This one is a mess. This is supposed to be a complete beginners kit...so how about you actually use the items in the kit? Blue tack, masking tape, and paint mask right off the bat...then she goes into base color painting using brushes that dont come with the kit. I have more brushes, and i have wberything needes, but this completely destroys the idea of a beginners' paint night kit.
