I feel like speed scaling in death battle often doesn't reflect how fast the characters really are, like in that world are the laser beams and lightning attacks really as fast as ours? or with Cloud if he can scale to a creature who can move across the solar system in like 10 seconds then couldn't he have instantly travelled across the continent in his search of sephiroth if he is anyway scalable to that. I don't really have a solution, but I just feel these kind of speed scaling often gives a result which makes a character seem way faster than what they are otherwise represented as being in the game.
@christophermonteith27743 жыл бұрын
not the best, but kingdom hearts scaling would indicate FTL at least, so its not impossible
@pandaeyez3 жыл бұрын
Nope. He doesn't need to be able to hurdle through the cosmos like Bahamut, simply reacting and moving fast enough to keep up with it is a feat in itself. Link doesn't zap across the skies like a lightning bolt either, but he can react fast enough to dodge it. Both Zack and Cloud being first class soldiers (or just being beyond the level of one in Cloud's case) meant they had superhuman reflexes and speed, but it's that reactive speed and their own speed that allows them to keep up with Bahamut and Sephiroth and Weapons, etc. If you can anticipate, react and move just fast enough, then a fast opponent means nothing.

@TheTrueHolyDarkness3 жыл бұрын
Also Cloud: *gets stabbed by sephiroth.* Sephiroth: *gets counter-stabbed by cloud and thrown meters into the lifestream, but is perfectly fine later. So is cloud.* Dyne: *successfully commits suicide by jumping off a cliff after that whole barret episode.* Tifa: *gets slashed by sephiroth and falls down at least two stories worth of stairs. nah she's fine.* Aerith: *gets stabbed by sephiroth yet no amount of healing magic works all of a sudden(?).* Zack: *gets sniped and just plain drops dead.* Cloud: *sniped by a bullet that **_CLEARLY runs him through_** at the end of advent children. anti-climatically gets up two seconds later, no damage to his sweater (wut?).* Durability feats are HELLUVA inconsistent in FF7. It's just plain poor writing on FF7's part, and my greatest pet peeve with it's storytelling. I don't mean to bash everything about FF7's writing, but there's little to no tension in their fights precisely because there's no telling what's meant to be a "lethal wound" in their world. Too much anime-logic in how injuries work in their world if you ask me. It's one of the things I really appreciate about the FFXV: Kingslayer movie. Square's writers finally learned to treat a character getting injured as actually _getting injured._ If I told you that I work for Square-Enix, and that in the next big FVII update we're going to mix things up by having Yuffie, Vincent, and/or Cid getting sniped and/or stabbed with a piece of rhubarb (during a cutscene), as a fan, you'd have no idea as to whether or not you should be concerned with how we're "changing things." Wouldn't you?
@TheTrueHolyDarkness3 жыл бұрын
EDIT: One last observation... Cloud: *can survive supernova, so naturally this makes him too durable for Link to handle* The rest of the Avalanche Cast: *can also survive supernova* By this logic, any member of AVALANCE is just plain too tanky to be stopped by the likes of say, Samus Aran's plasma beams, let alone Link, right? Fire Lord Ozai? More like Fire Loser Osai as far as Barrett's immune black ass is concerned. Not even the Phoenix Force could ever hope to put a dent into Yuffie Kisaragi! She's too stronk against flame! Superman's heat vision against the MIGHTY CAITH SITH?! Hardy har har. Such tactics are nothing before the almighty supernova durability feat. CAITH MOTHERFUCKIN SITH eats thousands of years worth of the Sun's energy output for breakfast! *Also according to Deathbattle.* Tifa Lockhart loses to Yang Xiao Long, a martial artist character whose signature super-power is called "Burn."
@MashuTora3 жыл бұрын
@@TheTrueHolyDarkness I am in no way saying you're wrong, but I am giving what I think could be somewhat reasonable explanations. I'm not saying "actually it works like this," just how I think. Sephiroth could have missed vital organs. It's not impossible that Cloud would survive. After all, we know Sephiroth likes to play with his toys before he breaks them. The lifestream is insane and Sephiroth is essentially a clone of Jenova. Not surprised he survived. Dyne was a regular human. He fell and bashed his head probably who knows how many times, and didn't even struggle. Tifa could have gotten a shallow wound, doing more surface damage than real damage. Again, Sephi likes to play with his toys before he breaks them. As for the stairs, as long as she didn't break her neck, she'd come out with a few nasty bruises, but overall, okay. I still don't know about Aerith, but my idea is that dying and being K.O.'d is very different. Given how cheap materia and healing items can be, I feel that they cannot actually bring someone back to life. They can only resuscitate an unconscious person. That said, when Aerith got stabbed, I imagine is was right through the heart.
@kirara25163 жыл бұрын
@@SenjiroAkechi what you should be asking is, after Cloud gets hit by Yazoo, he then actually 'dies' by an explosion of Yazoo and Loz overloading their materia. He's embodying Fae energy through this whole fight and I love it. even the transformation into Fierce Deity was like him taking the mask off and revealing his "true form" as some terrifying Fairy warrior. (despite that he puts a mask on to do this)
@seanpazdera64072 жыл бұрын
He's mischievous, but not evil. In Adult Link this manifests as little more than just lighthearted jokes every once in a while. Only Child Link shows anything immature. In either form he's meant to be something only the wicked fear anyway.

@@matthewcox69 no, reflexive dodging and predictive dodging takes the same speed, based on time and distance it will always be the same speed, if you could predict and dodge light, you're doing it the same as a reflex, because you are still able to dodge it which requires you to be faster than it, only if time is increased or distance is increased can a predictive dodge be slower than a reflexive dodge, but we are talking the same exact time and distance here

So I just want to point out a few things that seem to have been left out of Link's armory: The Mirror Shield, capable of reflecting energy including all magic; the Pegasus boots and seeds which each significantly increase his speed; the Bunny Hood, also capable of increasing his speed; bomb arrows, not a significant threat to Cloud but still too effective for him to ignore; Cryonis pillars in the rain can even emerge out of mud and make excellent cover; Daruk's protection is an impenetrable barrier, as is Nayru's Love (I can see why those weren't included); and then there was no inclusion of the Hidden Skills like the shield attack that could've put Cloud off-balance every time he struck the shield. You know Link is good with that technique when he uses it to reflect lasers without the Mirror Shield
@seanpazdera64072 жыл бұрын
Most of those don't matter for anything at all.
@stephen922 жыл бұрын
@@seanpazdera6407 I think they matter a lot. The Mirror Shield makes Link effectively immune to magic and dangerous to even cast a spell on. I may be wrong, but I think the summon attacks are also magical which means these would also be reflected. Link is also able to exploit even a small opening with the flurry rush and a sucessful shield parry does exactly that. The movement speed buffs mean he'd be able to dodge more attacks rather than parry which means even more flurry rushes
@seanpazdera64072 жыл бұрын
@@stephen92 A great deal of spells in Final Fantasy aren't like Twinrova. Some are even explosions that appear around you or cause your blood to congeal and stuff. SummonING is magical, but summonS aren't inherently. It would be better to just have Link use his own summons. You can't Flurry Rush straight out of a Shield Bash. Movement speed buffs don't affect reactions.
@stephen922 жыл бұрын
@@seanpazdera6407 I know you can't flurry rush after a shield parry and that's not the point. The point is that it creates an opening for attacks. The movement speed buffs don't affect his ability to recognize a threat and decide to move, but they do affect the speed at which he can move once the threat is identified. His body can keep up a little better with his mind. What you say about ff magic, completely fair. I don't know the magic from that series nearly as well as others. However, it would certainly affect the fire, Ice, lightning and wind magic as well as likely poison magic. Like casting an attack spell on something with reflect, but it doesn't wear off

The game mechanics are designed to let us experience a simulation of being super-human but if you put the gameplay in a realistic setting, you could easily argue that for Link or Cloud to avoid laser beams (which probably would not politely draw lines in the dirt to give you a chance to avoid them) or dragon gods (who probably wouldn't politely wait for you to take your turn before ripping you to bits at ultra lightspeed) - they'd have to actually possess attributes sufficient to overcome those real-world threats!

This death battle is so strange. There are several times where we have Link use his powers in the least effective way possible just so the fight continues. Ie: uses ancient arrows but shoots the bike instead of Cloud, uses stasis but just stands there instead of actually doing something during the time freeze, and then he uses the invisibility cloak to do nothing? These are the kinds of things I expect to see from the death battle combatant that ends up winning, to show how many powers they have over their opponent and how many ways they could win, but he lost in the end?
@ICTON123 Жыл бұрын
The animation is just for entertainment, it's not a simulation. If it was trying to be accurate, then Cloud would realistically just end Link in an instant. Anyway, no, Link was actually using them as best he could. He baited Cloud using Magnesis to draw him near the bike and then used it on the bike to ensure that Cloud couldn't see or dodge the arrow (we see that Cloud is incredibly near the bike and gets hit by the Ancient Arrow's explosion), but Cloud toughed it out. He very clearly did not just stand there during Stasis, Cloud used his own time stop on Link. And he uses the invisibility cloak to escape Cloud's attack and get as far as he can, but as they already showed, he wouldn't be able to attack like that cause he's intangible, and he can't stay cloaked cause the cloak drains mana.

I would like to point out that in the lore, BotW Link didn't just get timed abilities from the Champions' spirits, he got their abilities themselves transferred to him. For example he should be able to heal whoever he wants, create air as he pleases, and spam Daruk's Protection like the people who were born with those powers.
@Bleeperblopper4972 жыл бұрын
I don't think that matters much when the summon, Knights of the Round, ignores defenses along with Cloud having Protective Boots that make him Immune to Slow and Stop, therefore Cloud flat out wins in the Time Stopping department and people that say Link somehow resists Time Stopping are reaching too much. The Q&A Blogspot posted by the Research Team and Ultraguy, after this fight came out, went into FULL detail on why Cloud definitely wins, not to mention compositing Link in general is BS and Non-Canon, has never been shown having all of his weapons and abilities at once in the games and the fact that the Hero of Time was clearly a separate being from Twilight Princess Link and had to actually teach the other person their techniques instead of remembering their past lives where even if you do composite, it only seems fair to let Cloud have all of his Materia which can actually counter all of Links Gear along with Clouds Ribbon, Boots, Summons and Spells, its just that most people think that Links gear is more memorable and don't pay much attention to all the stuff Cloud has and you can even make a good argument that Cloud actually CAN use any Materia as explained in the Q&A. They even debunked Universal Link in that one, too. I was even able to change Smash Brackets mind on the Verdict too by pointing them towards that Q&A when they were sure Link had this with the Chateau Romani and Magic Cape, but again, Knights of the Round and a few other counters Cloud had that could make him attack intangible beings.

That's if Cloud doesn't even use his abilities or powers at all. Like did you even consider Cloud would even let all this happen?
@ikeillue8385 Жыл бұрын
The issue is, though said abilities were not included in the fight, they were taken into consideration. Its just that they didn't have the time or budget to include everything from both characters. The fact of the matter is, none of Link's arsenal makes any real difference. Daruk's protection isn't going to do much. Being able to block 3 attacks isn't going to change anything, when his opponent is massively stronger and faster than Link. Not to mention, Cloud literally has the ability to turn off barrier, like Daruk's, on a whim (Turning off magical effects like that is literally the purpose of the magic, dispel.). As far as bullet time, when you consider how much faster Cloud is than Link, even when Link has bullet time active, Cloud would still be moving faster than Link could comprehend. Ignoring that point, it still wouldn't have ended the fight for 2 major reasons. Reason 1, in BOTW, Ancient arrows don't do the instant death effect on more powerful enemies, such as bosses, and Cloud EASILY outpowers every boss in LOZ combined. Reason 2, even if we ignore reason 1, and assume the instant death would work on Cloud, it still doesn't matter, because Cloud literally has immunity to instant death effects. Point being, best case scenario for Link, Ancient arrows would only do damage to Cloud, and considering the power difference between the two, that damage would be negligible.

Question: How does Cloud destroy the tri force of courage? I Cloud could dodge it or possibly tanking the hit, but destroying the power of a goddess?
@ICTON123 Жыл бұрын
It *has* actually been destroyed before in WindWaker and A Link Between Worlds. And considering Cloud potentially netting power beyond even what the full TriForce has shown (Knights of the Round's summon attack is described as destroying the dimension they're in with King Arthur's sword swing in databooks, SuperNova destroys dimensional space in Dissidia, and potential scaling to Multiversal feats from characters such as NeoExdeath via FF: Tactics and Dissidia), he should be powerful enough to shatter the goddesses' gift. But aside from that, the animation is mainly just for entertainment, that was just there cause it would be cool. The TriForce of Courage hasn't really ever been shown to be capable of defending or harming things for Link. In fact, it rarely does... anything really, it mostly just sits there until a very specific event happens.

One thing I hate about death battle is the way they do speed feats. They always take little quirks of animation or one off dumb un thought out remarks and act like they’re consistent abilities. I mean the so called “laser” Link dodges is not moving the speed of light, assuming hyrule physics even work the same as ours, and It sure as hell doesn’t seem like link is moving 1/10 the speed of light in the dodge animation. Compare his speed to an in game arrow and we’ll probably get a thousand paradoxes with arrows all moving 1/20 the speed of light or some nonsense. I feel like there is a certain amount we can’t take literally with stuff like this. (Edit also I don’t even think it’d be possible to dodge a laser after it was fired, since you’d have to know it was coming, which relies on sight, and lasers move just as fast as any light which could reach your eye, unless link has magic clairvoyance or something)

I feel to properly explain the laser would be more like a light saber or something. The time it takes for the laser to connect with the ground is light speed. The time it takes to move the laser to attack link however is not light speed. It's the speed or whatever a mechanical eye ball can move.

I don't think it's necessarily fair to equate someone's base speed for running or flying to the speed of reflexes in combat. Usain Bolt could most likely outrun Bruce Lee no problem, but would he be able to block punches and kicks from Bruce? Very unlikely. They do this in almost every video and it always bothers me. There should be different statistics for movement speed vs reflex speed.

Yeah, I'm fine with Cloud winning but like... the logic and "calculations" in this one bother the hell out of me. Bahamut flying from planet to planet in seconds DOESN'T mean Cloud is capable of the same speeds. Every single time Cloud has fought some incarnation of Bahamut, it hasn't been moving anything close to that speed. Plus, when he was fighting Bahamut Sin, Bahamut was moving slow as hell, and Cloud FAILED to catch up to him. He only caught up because he was literally THROWN at Bahamut by the rest of his party members. If I can move at 10 times lightspeed, but then I fight someone at a normal human pace, it doesn't mean they can move 10 times lightspeed too. They did the same thing in Mickey vs. Yoda when saying that Roxas' heart travling across worlds means Mickey can do the same while fighting, which ISN'T even remotely accurate.
@jayb89343 жыл бұрын
I agree, but I think that the rationale is that if someone can move at supersonic or light speed levels, their reflexes have to be comparably fast or else they would be slamming into things. Basically, if you have a certainly level of super human movement speed, you have to have reflexes that scale to match it in order to use it. It doesn't hold true if dealing with realistic human movement speeds though. Usain Bold doesn't run that much faster than other humans that he needs super human reflexes to use his speed.

Lol, speed and acceleration are different. Bahamut could travel the distance in 12 seconds but you need to take into account acceleration and deceleration at the target and not just assume an average speed. This equates to a higher top speed but potentially lower initial speed. If link could get to a fraction the speed of light in the blink of an eye or faster there's a chance he is momentarily faster as I don't see Bahamut using that kind of speed against Cloud in battle. All that said, I don't think Link was moving that fast, just evading the tracking and not the beam of light itself
@joshuaarnett7623 жыл бұрын
The animation seems to show that Link is only beginning to move after the beam fires, so he would have to move at fractional light speed to dodge. Also, yeah. Travel speed is NOT combat speed, and Bahamut is clearly not moving at top speed at all times.
