How far back does this sort of infection go? I've been an "intermediate" level grower going back to the 80's and have always just thought that sometimes you get a weak seed.... a "runt" if you will!?!? This infection certainly sheds new light onto what most likely is the cause of many times I've encountered an oddly small plant, or even the time I grew one that I considered to have a form of gigantism because it was absolutely massive... like bonkers friggin' huge!! This was back in the early 90's before camera phones and I wish I had pics, but this plant had fan leaves with 11 points and as big around as a basketball hoop I shit you not! But yea.... how long has this been a thing?

I would be interested in seeing the major cannabinoid tested variance assay from top to bottom in several healthy plants to get a feel for how much damage HLVd does. I've long suspected lower THC on lower branches. BTW - How is HLVd spread? Management?
@DeBaccoUniversity Жыл бұрын
I think you are referring to light intensity and cannabinoid production so take a look at this study... www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fpls.2021.646020/full More videos to come soon on prevention, testing and transmission;-)

@@DeBaccoUniversity - I can hardly wait for the upcoming videos. Thanks for the link. However, that study references indoor grows with artificial light and focuses on light intensity variance and its effects on plant growth, transpiration, and cannabinoid production. I am looking for outdoor grown cannabis studies that show cannabinoid concentration variance on a plant from main cola down to the last branches. My suspicion is that there is always a significant decrease of cannabinoids on the lower branches and the highest concentration is on the main cola. I wish to compare a healthy plant variance and a HVLd infected plant's variance.

So I'm guessing treatments and how it transfers is next? Does it have it from seed or does it contract it during veg?
@5thelementcannabisproduction Жыл бұрын
transmission happens during tasks such as pruning, defoliating, cloning, and trimming. Any time you create an open wound on a plant, there is a chance for the viroid to possibly affect your plants. Typically, HLVd is spread on unsanitized scissors and gloves, so developing good sanitation habits is crucial to stopping the spread of HLVd in your garden.

Yes, more to come on this hope to have new videos out soon. In short, transfers via contact with the sap and it can occur in either of the situations you mention. Most common is physical contact from an infected plant to a "clean" plant via human interaction or an infected mother produces many infected clones.

@@DeBaccoUniversity Q: what are they testing with?
@TerpeneCity Жыл бұрын
I've been educating about this viroid for quite some time. I started some new seeds and notice some early signs of the viroid in many if not all of my plants. I purchase new fabric pots, and I'm curious about how to go about cleaning the pots potentially for another seed run that hopefully you won't contain the virus. I usually like to clone but I don't have the resources to do testing. If I soak the pods and bleach it could affect the integrity of the pots themselves. So I am wondering if boiling the fabric pots would suffice in eliminating the virus. I'm contemplating using standard plastic pots and bleach to clean the pots for simplicity purposes. Also during the flowering stage a lot of leaves tend to overlap each other and can even perspirate (sweat) between leaves. As they touch each other. I would imagine that could transmit the virus through leaf contact.
@DeBaccoUniversity Жыл бұрын
The bleach (assuming strong enough and long enough of a) soak should prove effective. However, if you have an infected plant and it comes in contact with another transmission can occur. This also applies to you going from plant to plant.
@medicmike490611 ай бұрын

Stunting possible but if it's youre only plant, no way to know if it's stunted or a squat phenotype. I've got some newer seeds guaranteed to be HPVLD FREE and says right on the packs.
