As a Milan fan who watches him every week, he is exceptional at winning the ball high up the pitch even beyond midfield at times, incredible recovery pace, and 1 v1 defending. His only weakness this season is that he sometimes has lapses in defense with strikers running behind as he tends to join Kalulu covering his player, leaving his own player unmarked.

TTA works perfect for 3 at the back as long as the RCB can read and come across... essentially turning I to a back 4 if and when... Walker is fast and a great servant but he is slowly getting on and cant rely on just his pace anymore. He does make a silly mistakes also but his recovery pace would mask it... White or maybe James in there alongside Stones and Tomori can do this. This woulf also give flexibility to go to a back 4 tactically without making 2 changes as only Trent would come off.

Pickford a limited player? Nonsense. His distribution is brilliant. He got an assist to Gray this season and in thr Euros he layed a chance on a plate for Sterling which he inevitably messed up. Pickford has brilliant distribution, brilliant shot stopping. Only negative is his height but he doesn't get exposed because of it.

i like the idea of a tactically fluid and progressive back 5. with Trips and Reece as wingbacks, you have a pair of excellent 2 way players on the flanks. Stones, Tomori, Walker in the back 3 makes the most sense to me. Walker can underlap or overlap with Reece and Stones can supplement the midfield with Trippier on the left. Tomori's physicality and recovery pace as the sitting defender would be massive, and with Reece and Walker sprinting back and midfielders like Rice and Bellingham you have a very strong foundation to progress the ball well and be stingy in defense.

Look trippier is great, should arguably be the starting right back, and if we’re gonna get hammered by maybe a France or Brazil he’d be fine left back. But I’ve also seen him play multiple games at left back for England. Having him as a right footed player on the left makes our passing out the back and attack much worse, much worse. For fluidity in attack but also solid defence I’m risking an out of form chilwell or shaw and hope they find that great form they had during the tournament because they are both excellent left backs and it’s their position

Yeap that would work, James is more well rounded at of the RB options, play walker against strong teams, chilwell or Tripper, midfield is the only option unless last 20 minutes and need setpiece goal and put Ward-Prose, I'd be fine with Saka, Grealish, sterling or Sancho on wings, I think Foden is really in competition with mount I'd even prefer Foden over mount, Kane...he's just never done it for me at euro or world cups, I feel like a fast striker like Abraham or Rashford for counter attacking ability... controversial but might work better

The disrespect on Trent is mad especially as the discussion surrounds playing a back 4. Even if he doesn’t start he possesses such a unique skillset to create chances from nothing. Liverpool’s defence has been poor this season but that’s as a result of a lack of stability in the midfield. Different story when Thiago plays instead of Henderson/Milner. Look at Chelsea’s record towards the end of last season/ start of this season when Kovacic is injured. Same situation but there’s no agenda against James like there is Trent

I get what Joe is saying about TAA having less cover, but as the right-back in arguably one of the best teams in the world, and one of the best sides the prem has seen in a long time, he shouldn't constantly need the midfielders to make up for the fact that he can't defend. if the case is that trent can't defend so fabinho needs to do that for him, play trent in midfield and fabinho at RB, because trent is the right-back and should be defending those players, not relying on everyone else to pick up his slack defensively just because he can sling crosses in to a high standard sometimes

Came on for Trent in an England game not too long ago and gave away a pen straight away, got dunked on against Leeds and Chelsea have kept 1 clean sheet this season in a back 5. England have a clear problem creating chances so leaving out the best creator England have would be stupid, especially considering southgate will likely play a back 5 with 2 dm’s so have enough cover defensively

Reece James in a back four isn't the same player you all think he is, how many times have chelsea conceded more than three goals and lost matches when they have played four at the back, Reece James was poor in the game against Italy as well, did nothing going forward and was ball watching instead of helping walker as England conceded that goal. Trent has become this sacrificial lamb to criticize, but somehow this dude escapes all criticism. He was poor in the Leeds game as well and was caught upfield for at least two goals, again did nothing in that match offensively. James can only work in a back three system with 2 DM being used to sacrifice their play so he can go forward. Also what the hell happened with his hair, whoever told him that's a good idea needs to get fired 😂
