I think this last election demonstrates how broken the American electoral system is. 90 million eligible voters didn't vote. 90 million. The fact that there's no 'leave Palestine alone' party to vote for is just another example of why it no longer works. In a proportional representation system, there would be pro-Palestinian parties. There are 10 political parties represented in the Finnish parliament, eight in Sweden's, etc. Two party systems are only one party away from a one-party state. And when both parties have been captured by corrupt corporate interests, as is the case in the US, you essentially have a uniparty. There's no real choice. Who does an American communist vote for? An American environmentalist faces the choice between a party that will butt-fuck the planet or a party that will do exactly the same thing but use lube. Every election, it's a choice between whacko conservatives and diet conservatives. Both choices always suck.

Never mind turning the election in Harris' favor, with 90 million votes we could've put a third candidate in office. Jill Stein, if you like, or whoever ran for the Libertarian party. By the way, how would corporate interests manage to capture parties if everyone actually voted? Politicians are necessarily adherent to the will of their constituents, because its their constituents that actually elect them. Even in America's two party system, pushing corporate interests out is as simple as all those 90 million people bothering to get out of bed, going to their primaries, voting for who they think actually represents their interests, and voting other people out. Once they bother to actually make their voice heard in a way that actually makes or breaks a politician's career, they might find that politicians suddenly care about what they want a lot more. Maybe we shouldn't bother complaining about the system when so few of us can even manage to do their part.

Everyone just gets the choice between two evils or the Libertarian joke party. You never get to vote for the good, and it's exhausting. Plus at least one of the parties actively discourages voting and puts obstacles in the way. There's seldom anything important that you actually get to vote for. Now, this last election was an exception. A clear choice between mildly shitty and Hell on Earth, but generations of no real choice have created this problem. This lack of choice is certainly not the only factor (there's the education system, the extreme bias of American 'news', disinformation, etc.), but it's definitely playing a part.

First of all, I have absolutely no idea how we're even considering the Libertarian party as a joke party when the number of people who refused to vote could easily have won the election for that party. Second of all, both the Republican and Democrat parties have primaries, where voters have the ability to determine which person running for the office best represents their interests, so even disregarding the Libertarian and Green parties, this is still just factually wrong. I don't understand how you can possibly determine that there is another failure in the system when we haven't even addressed the most obvious problem, that being voters don't vote. You would never troubleshoot any other problem this way.
