Unbelievably talented. She sang, wrote, played piano and helped produce her first album when she was just 16.

She holds the record for the youngest person ever, to write, perform, and produce a #1 song. Foolish Beat, hit #1 on 6/25/88, she was 17 yrs old.

"People don't understand what Debbie Gibson went through because, unlike many of the later female singers who were teenagers, Debbie Gibson had to deal with an industry completely controlled by adult men who considered a 15 or 16-year-old girl as a child. Debbie Gibson had to do everything from the scratch; she composed the music for her own songs, wrote the lyrics, and also produced her own songs, taking part in all the marketing, advertising, and image-building aspects of herself in a thoroughly professional manner, almost becoming an extremely perfectionist person. Her contemporary competitor, Tiffany, couldn't hold a candle to her, as Tiffany basically focused on covering famous songs from the past, classics from the Beatles and other groups from the 50s and 60s. Their successors who emerged in the late 90s were also teenagers, but they were really created by big show business companies, almost as if they themselves were money-generating corporations. Singers like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, among others, were the creation of adults who learned from Debbie Gibson how a teenage pop star should be. For me, it's truly admirable how Debbie Gibson, at just 16 years old, composed the music and lyrics of her songs, in addition to producing them. She filmed music videos, embarked on massive tours across the United States, filling stadiums, and yet she managed to graduate from high school with honors.

holly hell. You GET IT !!!! haha Let me tell you a story. I am 53 years old now. I had just joined the army in 1988 and I got stationed in Germany in 1989. Aschaffenburg, Germany was my favorite place in the world. I met a German girl that hardly knew english at all. After a few weeks, I was invited to her house to meet her parents. I walked into her room and there was Debbie Gibson plastered all over her wall. Debbie had great posters then. The connection was made and that opened up a new corner of our relationship. I love debbie gibson and did then. The girlfriend didn't last, but my love for Debbie Gibson did. She still performs today, but I think i'm stuck on the young Debbie. Don't get me wrong, I follow everything older Debbie does, but her old stuff like this reminds me of the great old says for me. Check out the 2nd part of this song "foolish beat". Debbie was my dream girl.

I didn't hold out on you. I was always hoping you'd eventually get to exploring Debbie Gibson's music. She was the teen queen of the mid-to-late 80's. I love her music. "Lost In Your Eyes" is her biggest hit. It was #1 on the pop charts for 4 weeks in 1989. Other songs from Debbie Gibson that I recommend you try are ":Out Of The Blue", "We Could Be Together", "Shake Your Love", "Only In My Dreams", and "Foolish Beat".

Still recording and performing today. Has a bunch of shows scheduled next month on the east coast to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the album this came off of, "Electric Youth". Three years she recorded a duet version with Joey Mcintyre from New Kids on the Block. You should check out that one.
