I'll tell you what, I'm not a big fan of hers but just decided to check her out live since she has such a beautiful and ranged voice and she's only one in a handful of artist that sounds absolutely like on her record which is very hard to duplicate. I gotta say I was very impressed by her and found a new respect for her. No matter where she is, I hope she's doing very well for herself.

Man, I turned 10 fourteen days before this show (and i guess she had turned 18 sixteen days prior...). She was my first real celeb crush. Is it the kind of stuff i still listen to today? Not much. But every few years, usually in my darkest moments, i need to remind myself of the gloriously happy days of my childhood and she'll take me right back to it. I don'T know how Debbie feels about her career now, the fact it was mostly a three years affair in terms of being in the limelight anyway (still two #1 and three top 5 in that time...), maybe she has regrets, maybe she wishes things had happened differently, but i hope she knows that to a lot of us she is intimately tied to our childhood (or youth anyway) and happier days and that hearing her songs can give part of this blissful innocence back to us. And that's sure worth something. Well....Debbie will be 51 in ten days and i'll be 43 in twelve. Dammit. Here's to us all getting old.

What's really special about this video and other 80's artist is the ackward & corny dancing. It's not suggestive & overly rehearsed like today. There is an innocence in their movement and I believe it's a true example of someone not only expressing themselves through their music but movement as well. She is innocent and free.

As a fan of mostly metal and hard rock I appreciate the talent Debbie Gibson had in her younger years. She could really sing and was a damn good showman (woman) did not have to use auto tune like performers do nowadays and plus this is one of the songs that gives me memories of the 80's. I do miss the 80's even though I was a young kid. I always remember the music being good from the 80's.

As a rock and roller from the 60's and 70's, perhaps I'm not qualified to comment on her performance or even this musical genre. But I will nonetheless. It's good. The woman can really sing, she's a good showman (showwoman?), her band is authentic, and Autotune is conspicuously absent. Very unlike most of the crap out there now.

On this day in 1987 {August 29th} Debbie Gibson performed her debut charted record, "Only In My Dreams", on the ABC-TV Saturday afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'... At the time "Only In My Dreams" was at position #5 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart, the following week it would peak at #4 {for 1 week} and it spent over a half-year {28 weeks} on the Top 100... It reached #6 on the Canadian RPM Singles chart... Between 1987 and 1993 the Brooklyn, NY native had eleven records on the Top 100 chart, five* made the Top 10 with two reaching #1, "Foolish Beat" for 1 week in 1988 and "Lost In Your Eyes" for 3 weeks in 1989... Besides her two #1 records, her three other Top 10 records were the above "Only In My Dreams", "Shake Your Love" {#4 in 1987}, and "Out of the Blue" {#3 in 1989}... Deborah Ann Gibson will celebrate her 49th birthday in two days on August 31st, 2019... * She just missed having a sixth Top 10 record when her "Electric Youth" peaked at #11 {for 3 weeks} in 1989...
