I think people make comments about it looking good in a little girl's room because we are all conditioned to see certain colors, especially if they are bright, as for children. If you go in any store with home goods, you will see the bedding and decor that is intended for children is vivid and playful, while the "adult" decor is more neutrals and somber. This is why I am so drawn to your videos. You really push back on that conditioned resistance to certain colors. Even as an artist, I have difficulty working with brighter colors and when I see what you are creating I am so inspired to work through my own conditioning that to be taken seriously I need to work in a certain color range. Watching you, I see how I have been limiting myself and playing it safe. Sometimes we just need to see someone else doing something to give ourselves permission, so thank you, Debi, for freeing my mind and opening me up to ALL THE COLOR! 🎨🖌🌈

I love color too. I had an art gallery for a few years and everyone told me to paint the floors and walls in neutral blacks and whites and grays, but I ended up using a beautiful purple for the lower part of the wall with cobalt blue, yellow, red, and orange accent walls and mint green trim- it sounds crazy but it worked so well and the artists loved it. I had several large scale exhibitions and I always found a way to make it work. It is trickier to use multiple colors but I’m like you- it’s worth it to me because color does give me such joy. I really love the effect of the paper clay. This piece could inspire several more. So many beautiful things happening. :)

My favorite thing about you is that you love color and show the true process of artistic expression. I also love bold, vibrant colors and the Bohemian aesthetic. I feel like the white and gray monochromatic look is completely rooted in Safe and not about what truly makes people's heart sing. I can't tell you how many times I've seen sellers say they paint things white because that's what sells. I believe it's putting profits over creativity and it's a pity that folks don't allow themselves the gift of exploring their own creativity. After yrs of refinishing furniture in wood tones and being so uninspired to work on anymore projects unless absolutely necessary. Your videos using DIY was a breath of fresh air. It opened up the inspiration to consider using all furniture. To rescue furniture that had beautiful lines but crap veneer. To create a statement piece or bring color into a room. Love your sense of color and adventure when creating a piece.

Debi, this is my absolute favorite piece! I like it because of the vivid colors. I don't think "art" is created instantly or even in a few furious hours. It's a process, sometimes even agonizingly slow...but the result is like an Impressionistic painting. Your videos are so inspiring. You dare to create something different, very stylish...but always your style. Nobody can duplicate your style exactly the way you do so learn to cherish it, cultivate it, and let it bloom. My favorite part is the stamped paper clay giving the dresser its serene, ethereal feeling...beautiful combination with the vivid brights!
