Have you ever used a shaky head? Today I'll discuss how I rig a shaky head, the combos I fish it on, how it compares to other popular finesse techniques, and lastly we'll discuss how to fish it. The shaky head is a lot more versatile than a lot of people think. Different jig heads, plastics, and ways of using the rig can make all the difference. Thanks for watching feeshin friends!
COMMENT BELOW and let me know if you've had success with a shaky head!

It’s fun to learn fishing techniques. I have fished my whole life, but have learned more in this past year than the rest of my years together. And Debo, you have been part of this learning curve. Bought shaky heads last year and can’t wait to use them more. I might try the ManBearPig in Tramp Stamp on them this season. Or a Buffalo Wild Wing.

Debo, I could go the whole season and only throw a shaky head with different trailers. I am confident no matter where I am and what the conditions I would still catch fish. Not because I am that good but because the bait is so versatile as you pointed out. The different shapes of the heads, the different weights and you can use almost every type and style of plastic on the market. As a result all of these combinations make up unique rigs that have different characteristics. I have tiny trout sized heads up to the standard 1/16, 3/16, 1/4 and 3/8 oz heads. I do not go any larger I love finesse fishing. 3,4 and 5 inch Senko’s were my standards for quite some time. Reaction Innovations Smallie Beaver and the standard version have been primary trailers when I am slow dragging the bottom. I have recently fell in love with Z-Man products both of the TRD’s have produced some quality fish. The Big TRD in PB&J has caught my largest fish and I mean multiple large fish.

You're 100% correct! It's a rig that can do a a lot of different things. Grass, wood, rock...it's not often that a lure can do all of that and not get hung up all of the time!

Great advise, I believe most people over work shaky heads, ned rigs, and drop shots. Many fish in my area won't hit a moving piece of plastic, but suck it off the bottom after movement stops. Hits on the fall only seem to come from the most aggressive fish.

Great video Debo. I can't believe that I helped make this video. Great stuff. We went fishing last night and (since the wacky rig is my confidence bait) the wacky rig produced 2 fish. One 2lber and one new PB. We figured 6lbs (to lazy to use the scale). One more bite on the wacky. And a bite on the Berkley Pitboss. Wacky was a Bass Pro Shops Tournament series 4 & 1/2" Wacky Stik-o-worm in Junebug. Berkley Pitboss was a black and blue. New to the Shakey head. Never caught anything on it. Hoping that I can. Should have tried the TRD Crawz Ned rig last night. Awesome stuff!!!

My FAV shakeyhead jig is the Buckeye Lures Pro Model. The flat face gives a SUPERB fluttering action when jerked, both up and on the fall. My favorite trailer is the Rzr Shad. It darts ever which way with each hard jerk, thanks to the flat face of the 3/16 jig. Bomb Cast Fall Sit Drag Sit Jerk (up) Fall Jerk (side sweep) Jerk (side sweep) 20lb test allows me to really rip it when I cast and jerk (imparting the best action to the lure). Reaction bites... love em.

Great video Debo! I don't throw the shaky head as a lot of the ponds I fish have a lot of gunk on the bottom. I will put up with it when the bite gets tough. Like you, the Zoom finesse and Grandebass Airtails are my fav but I like the suggestion of trying the swimbait or beaver. The tip on not imparting too much action is spot on! Now we're talking about my kind of fun. I do just like you said. Smaller set ups I go with spinning rod and reel set up. If I'm really going after a more vicious bite or fishing around serious brush piles where the fish have more girth, it's my baitcaster. I can use my spinning setup but I will break off alot easier. It's more more serious finessing involve but I don't want to keep retieing involved. Now I throw baby bushog on a luck E Strike football shakeyhead with a 1/4oz & 3.0 hook. I also use that Grande Bass worm we spoke about before. In spring bass here can be spooked real easy so I use baitcaster so I can get em out of there before they scare the others. I use Shakeyheads year round and I also use glass rattles alot. The fish here see the same ole same ole. I try to change it up. My favorite worm for Shakeyhead is a Big TRD worm and the XL TRD worms. They stand up all the time and are a mushier feel to the bite. Just my preference & most people think they are too expensive. I will glue them to the head of the football so they last longer. That trick worm you showed,.... I really like those too. They look awesome in the water. I'm going to try some of the worms you mentioned using on a Ned Rig. Those are perfect for the pond around the corner from me. They see alot of the same stuff. So time to throw something not favored. I wondered if you use scent on any of your baits??? I do but not always. Sometimes it is a must. I also started throwing a Bx Brat too. Not the bigger version like you see being advertised. It doesn't have rattles either. The silent model works like a dream. I really like it too. I do use 15lb test with it. I want it to stay shallow and be able to land that "Slaunch donkey" when she bites. I don't want to text a whole page but you are talking about my favorite method. Great video, btw.👊 I was waiting for one like this one!! Good stuff bruh 👌👌. Take care

I just bought a new baitcaster. I bought a Abu Garcia Black Max 3. I know, I know but I got a killer deal on it!! $30 & it's still in the blister pack. I had one before. I retired my 82 Lew's Speed spool bb2. It was getting old and it was beginning to make noises I didn't feel good about. I recently changed careers and I have less income so I have to shop frugally. I'm thinking about getting a Thunder Cricket & a couple of swim jigs so I needed another baitcaster. One I could use with ease so I went with ole faithful gear. I'm putting it on a Daiwa rod though 😛. Gotta love for the one piece 7' casting rods they make!! Besides I got a couple of boxes of CDRs for the handycam so I can video some of my catches this year. Wish I could afford a 13 Fishing reel or a new Lew's but after everything got stolen during my divorce, I can only afford the less expensive. But, I'm not going to be persuaded to give up the one thing I love so dearly. I'm not fishing tournaments anymore so I'm going to keep learning & loving what I do. It keeps me centered. I know you know what I mean. You never know.... I might just show up in Iowa one of these days & look up someone to fish with. I never caught big Pike. Big Chain pickeral but not Pike!! Keep up the good work 🤘👍

Gotta bit of study to share with you Debo. Strike King has a Super finesse worm that's made by ZMan. Of course it's ElaZtech material. And I didn't get much chance to see how it performs in the right conditions. What I did notice is there's a slight issue to deal with if you use a 1/4oz jighead with it for Shakeyhead applications. When casting these worms on 1/4oz or bigger they are going to stretch out & that will shorten your cast a great deal. When you use 3/16, it's a better weight and doesn't stretch out as bad. I have some VMC Rugby jigs coming in the mail Monday & they are all 1/16oz. These are a new one for me. They are not to be confused with the VMC swimming Rugby jigs. They are different and made to be fished like a shakeyhead. Definitely a good Finesse jig by all means. I've been looking for a EWG jighead that comes in a 1.0 or 2.0 size so I can Ned Rig with it. So far I'm using a Slider Spider jighead but it tends to have a more laid down look & it glides more than hops. Sometimes that presentation is perfect but I'm still on a quest for a good jighead with more of a mushroom head. Just thought I'd share that with you. And Discount Tackle.com is selling their Chatterbaits at almost 50% off. I have 3 of the Original models for $3.99 a piece coming Monday also. I saw where they have the Jack Hammer for$12.99 but I don't need that model. I get 3 original models for what it costs for just one of those 😲 so I had to get those. Just thought I'd share that bit of knowledge with you. With all the new tackle out, maybe it it's time for a video with covering the new stuff. Have a good weekend and I will be watching for your new video . Later my friend.

@@DEBOSFishing I also found the Ned Rig hooks I was looking for. They are made by Lifted Jigs. They are all 1/0 size & alot of the sizes are being released on February 8th. They are $5.99 for 3 so I'm still looking to see what might be out there may be a lesser priced set up. But I did find em. The VMC RUGBY JIGS are too big to use for Ned Rig but they are great for Shakeyhead applications. The eye is recessed into the football shaped head so it does save the knot from being frayed. Still got to check the line for knicks and brushes that will infact cause you to break off. I enjoy watching the videos on painting crankbaits. Good stuff

By far, my favorite worm is the straight tail Zoom shaky head worm, Mardi Gras color. I make my own flat bottom round head jigs with a Do-It mold. Smallmouth candy!! I have got to give a shout out to Charlie Brewer's slider worms, the original shaky head worm. They have been around since the 1970's and bass still love them.
@buzzworth2396
@buzzworth2396 4 жыл бұрын
Wow, you mentioned Charlie Brewer's Slider worm system!! I had an opportunity to meet him on West point lake in Lagrange Ga. He & his wife were fishing and he caught a 11lb largemouth under the rail road bridge and I got a chance to see it up close. After his wife was finished video taping it he asked me to follow him to the ramp where he put in. When he came back from his truck he handed me a shoe box full of his hooks and worms. He was a huge influence on how I fish. He autographed a copy of his book for me and I read it numerous times. He passed away in 2001 I believe & his son took over the business. His whole family are good people and I can't say enough about him and his method. I've been teased alot when I fished tournaments because everyone called them my magic worm. I have caught 150+ in one day on bridge pylons and they weren't small ones at all. Thank you for mentioning Charlie and his method. I still use them when I get a chance to. I'm sure you know how successful they are

@@buzzworth2396 That must have been great to meet Charlie Brewer!! I've been using slider worms since the late 70's and they are still excellent fish catchers to this day. I read his book and watched his video many times. I always looked forward to his articles in Fishing Facts magazine too. The whirly bee is an awesome fish catcher as well. I'm headed out shortly to try for walleye and smallmouth and the whirly bee will be tied on for sure. Good luck to you and tight lines in 2020!!

@@DEBOSFishing I honestly can't stress how much that man's book and outlook on fishing made on me to this day. He always said to keep it simple and basic. He is right but fishing today is so different. These fish these days see everything the tackle industry has to offer. Sometimes it counts to change it up. Use Grande Bass baits. Something so abstract that they haven't seen before. Fixing to go & put my new Abu Garcia into fine tuning and see if I can find a hungry bass into biting. I haven't given it a good cast yet. I still have a good collection of Slider equipment and use it from time to time. The presentation still works everywhere I go. Hard to beat the black worm and using the Spider hook with it is a"ringer" in my opinion

Debo - I grew up fishing for Walleyes in the midwest, but do to relocating, I plan to start primarily bass fishing this summer. I'm brand new to it and I love your videos and have learned a ton about different rigs from watching them. My one request would be that you spend more time demonstrating how to retrieve or "fish" the rigs (to your credit, you did do that in this video) and less time on the rigs themselves. Not a criticism, more of a pleading request. Keep making great vids!!

Apparently we think the same way with the shakeyhead. I've used Karl's saw craw also the krackin craw and several different beaver style baits. And many different styles of stick baits my favorite is the Biospawn exo stick. And of course any kinda curly tail works great. Now my personal experience has been in finesse technique shakeyhead has been my bread and butter.. I also use many different styles of shakeyhead from offset to ewg styles also different head shapes and wieghts. The shakeyhead is such a versatile bait to play with.. also almost forgot but baby brush hogs by zoom work great aswell. On colder days I've had my best luck though on the zoom black finesse worms. But another great and very cool company when it comes to colors is roboworms. Karl's bait and tackle has their own worm I'm not sure the name but it's a finesse style worm thick body into a very thin section with a bit of a blown out tail end it honestly floats on any kinda shakeyhead straight up and down and simply gets hammered. Great info though for anyone not thinking outside the box as we both obviously have..
