A tip I learned from my old instructor, when you get out of your seat, remember to air your seat down so it's easier to get back in. Or, since you're a mechanical fellow like me, find a seat air dump pressure switch so when you leave the seat, the air dumps automatically. Glad you're one of us now Rich!

@@moparjr89 i know the higher end seats have the switch built in and that's a nice feature. I had swapped my seat in my last truck with a legacy low and installed a switch from a MCI J4500 so it auto-dumped when i got out of the seat. I miss that

@@abbybonilla4511 I'm glad you had a good guy, most examiners in Arkansas, try to make you fail, and they get a kick out failing someone. Especially if they miss something. Like a headlight. I was grandfathered in so all I had to do was take the driving test. Well the written test too. I aced it very well. I have heard of guys, they start at the front of the truck tell the hater about the different parts, and skip a head light because you have 2 and get failed.

This was a fun series to watch. My family owned a KW dealership back in the '80s, when I was a toddler, and I remember those trucks from when they were new. One time my sister and I did a ride along with my Dad in a nearly identical cab over as what must have been part of a pre-delivery. He kept yelling at us not to jump on the bed! 😆 I also remember my Dad grinding the snot out of that poor transmission. He worked 'em... he didn't drive 'em. 🤣

Congratulations on getting your license Rich! The rules you have to know now are insane. I got my combination license back in 1983 and added all the specialty certificates along the way. In 1992 when I move here to Hawaii it cost me almost $9,000 to change over to the CDL and retest and recert for all the specialty classifications for hazmat, liquids and fuels, aerated gases, specialized hauling platforms and all the other nonsense. Be Proud! You definitely earned it.🤙

I’ll pass along the best advice I received on my first day driving a truck. If you ever stop hearing that little voice reminding you that you could kill someone in that truck, get out of it immediately. The battle against complacency is constant and we all have to fight it every single day.
@ChevyConQueso
@ChevyConQueso Жыл бұрын
Solid advice. I train a lot of folks with dangerous tools of all kinds, and I let everyone know that the "expert" is usually the one who screws something up or gets hurt. The newbs are generally safer and better at it because they take their time to do it right, and haven't developed bad habits yet. Over time you can get complacent and comfortable with danger. A buddy of mine sawed off the tips of his fingers on a table saw years ago, after using them regularly for a decade. In that case it only hurt him. With 80K rolling it can easily be someone else, or a lot of someones.

Congrats Rich! Nailing it on the first try ain't easy. When I got my Class A I failed the pre-trip (air brakes) 3 times. I would get one thing wrong and the next week I would get it right but get something else wrong that I had gotten correct the previous week. I just couldn't get around the nerves with the regular DOT examiner. Strangely enough, I passed everything with flying colors the 4th time when one of the DOT big bosses administered the driving test. I only lost like one point for "missing" a shift (I got it in the slot it just didn't want to catch) even though 6th gear was a little finnicky on my truck (my pfp). The neat thing was I didn't have to take a course, I just had to prove I knew what needed to be knew. The K-Whopper is a real looker! It's been fun watching it come together. Your channels and this rig in particular have given me some inspiration, motivation, and dedication to build a 7 ton pickup truck. It appears you'll make a fine trucker. Time to go Billy Big Riggin'!

Glad to see you got the old CDL the test makes for a nerve-wracking day. When I took my CDL test here in the states I failed the first pass at a railroad crossing not coming to a complete stop. The instructor told me to head on back. When she told me why I failed I asked when I could retake the test...she said I could retake it now if I wanted but if I failed a second time I would have to take all the written tests again before I could drive the test again. I did pass on the second try including the Passenger endorsement because I drive Limo Buses. They really take it seriously when you haul 50 passengers instead of 50,000 lbs. Good job Mr. De Boss

There's only one truck I like even more than the K100, its Aerodyne variant. Great series. Greetings from Europe!

That’s awesome that you’re working with the Daycab Company and you’ve opened their catalogue up to cover Kenworth cabovers.

I've never really been a cab over fan but this truck does change my mind and I definitely would drive it.

Seat belts ??? They show up later in the show !!! Got my Ontario AZ in 2009 when I turned 60, through Tri County in Cambridge ON. Nailed it on the first try, got one error notice "not turning my head enough when checking mirrors" (female examiner also). Did a few months on the road with McNamara Transfrt in Ayr, southern On to Winnipeg, Calgary and return runs through N.Dakota to West Virginia back to Ayr. My last run took me into Florida in the middle of summer (100% hot +100% humidity) got laid over in a Flying J for a few days waiting for a load to return home .. and that was the end of my long haul trucking career. I converted to off road haul trucks working the aggregate pits all over southern ON, airport runway expansion projects, landfill site renovations and new landfill projects and a huge landscaping project at the Toyota plant near London. Turns out that that 6 wheel articulating Volvos, Cats and Komatsus driving was more to my liking...less time away from home for weeks on end...got to meet a lot of fine folks running loaders and excavators, crushers and screen plants.

When I took my test I went over a curb, I thought I was done but he said you looked and took it slow and I passed. 👍🏼

I found this interesting to see. Similar to a pilot check flight for a private pilot license in aviation. Stressfull, detailed... good to verbalize everything you are doing and thinking about.
