Hello Rich! Just a tip to perhaps make things easier for you. I was taught to slice through a pair of the old wheel bearing cup/races (on one side of course) with a thin cutting disc, so they can used upside down against the new ones instead of using a drift punch to install them. Oh, and when America is divided and ruled by four, then may God bless you speedily, according to the Truth. *DANIEL8*

Brother, this is EXACTLY the way I rebuilt my '64 Land Rover - same philosophy, anyway. Was it a "restoration"? Faaaack no. It was a REBUILD. All the rot and slop was cut out and fixed, the important things were 100%, everything was solid and ready for another 30+yrs of service. Is she beautiful, ready to be displayed next to a concours Aston Martin at the next British Car Day? Well, I think so, but others would absolutely not agree. Is she ready to take me down a road in the woods to a tough to get to camping spot? Is she ready to get me to work in a Pennsylvania blizzard? Will she ooze CHARACTER as much as she drips oil from brand new OEM gaskets and seals, haha? Yes. Keep it up, my friend.

that cab from the donor truck is in better shape than 90% of the trucks on the road above Albany here in NY. I have 2005 that looks like we fished it off the ocean floor. Why are you putting an intercooler on an 89' cummins motor? That's a 1st gen motor original factory without intercooler. Adding one is like shooting yourself in the foot. I would have found an OEM turbo to keep from using an intercooler. Engine is better without one.

I'm thinking about putting a Cummins 6BT in a 1954 Dodge C1 Pickup. Do you think the Studebaker method would be the best way to achieve this? Using a 1980's to 90's Dodge Ram and installing the 1954 cab on it?
@DEBOSSGARAGE
@DEBOSSGARAGE 5 жыл бұрын
NO! Parts are harder to get for the first gens. If you get a deal on one, yank the engine and put it on a newer frame. I would still recommend a mid 2000's GM. The torsion bars make for a nicer ride, better brakes and easy to get parts.
@wjthehomebuilder

@@DEBOSSGARAGE Rich - Thank you for the reply! I drive a 97 cummins 2500 as my daily driver. I had thought about eventually using that as the donor chassis and then installing the 54 cab on it. Interesting thoughts on using a mid 2000's frame as I have noticed the 97 ram suspension isn't the greatest. I've been binge watching your conversion videos. Good stuff here!

Loving how this will turn out, I found a good first gen dodge dually 4X4, and used my prize shape 72 ford highboy cabin and sheet metal to make a trick looking set up that was too good for me as I would of never got rid of my ford as I bought new and kept it that way but this was talking to me.... Its running/driving and a guy comes in my shop and starts by a nice conversation wants it real bad and said he watched me from afar build it. Now I haven't ever leaned towards selling as its mine with my nice old and sentimental value cabin/metal and it is still just metal and my dream as the love affair with cummins and my prize truck coming together. I had bills to pay, a nice snap on tool chest making payments on (never do that again) but long story short see dry land as my bills will all be gone if I accept, and the dog in me did. Still looking nice truck with a little touch up to do, I spared no expense on the whole build. I had done 95% of the interior and so really talk hard if you really want and he did. forty grand which in my mind is still cheap but I had half that in it. I wouldn't find another I want it guy like this and sold it. ... still kinda wished that I still had it but he did do it over some to suit him and my bills disappeared.
