I'm going to assert, without proof, that 'Hot Rod Lincoln' was written and preformed by the band 'Commander Cody' sometime in the 70's. Maybe they are covering an existing work, dunno, but every time I hear it on the radio it's the Commander Cody version.

Dad had a friend Johann, at a Bar he went to in the 1960's. 6" 7", 340 pound Steel Worker, & part time machinist. He rode a BMW R12 Motorcycle. Well 2 full R 600 motors, with 1 common crankshaft. The rest of the bike was all R 600 with a very long gas tank. Literally everyone who rode it, said "If BMW made this, Harley would be out of business tomorrow". He even took it to BMW in Germany in 1971, and the engineers there said, "It's to much! No one needs that kind of power." lol! Johann said he had a little over 100 hours, of design, and machining into the bike. I saw him again in 1984 with his son, who was riding an R 1500, Johann had built him out of 2, R 750's engines, with duel discs breaks on the front forks. The Tank was off a Paris/Dakar BMW. But everything looked, and worked perfect.

Thanks for sharing your story. I love hearing about the crazy backyard scientists that succeed purely out of spite to those that screamed the loudest that it would never work! See it's those moments that make history! It's sometimes hearing the harshest of criticisms from people who we once secretly had admiration for that will either make or break people. There are examples of this phenomenon all throughout motor racing history that has been the most epic at delivering a spectacle to the world and make headlines 👌 Going viral in the analog era is something else because it never fizzled out or got outshone 15min later, like we have in the modern era. This was an era of legendary status lasting beyond someone's physical life and carried like a legacy. I digress to mention the ironic humour of Aussies actually seeking out Jaguars for their driveline to conversion fit to Ford GHTO Falcons? In the 1970s the Australian Ford Falcon GTHO claimed the status of the fastest 4 door production sedan in history. There was a legend of a Jaguar racing a modified HO Falcon out in the countryside and when the Falcon was flat to floor maxed out in top gear the Jaguar owner casually pulled up on the guys tail in the Falcon then proceeded to put his indicator on to overtake and then shifted into top gear beside the Falcon as he just pulled away from the Falcon like he was stationary? That literally inspired a 2 decades long car modification that became ubiquitous in the street car scene of the 80s with some remnants still persisting to this day? You would see trading post ads for modified street cars in the classifieds and there would be big exclamation marks **HAS JAGUAR DRIVELINE** **JAG PUSHBUTTON AUTO CONVERSION** And people would literally buy the car just because it has the driveline in it that they wanted 😆 And yet here we see that shit got yeeted by default. So hilarious and so bizarre that opposites happening on opposite sides of the planet? Dafuq kinda motor racing matrix Voodoo stuff was going on? So irrelevant in the current day though but still funny to ponder about people could have become rich shipping what they didn't want to Australia. The irony is that it's the same in reverse when we have dudes in Australia literally hacking up Holden Commodore wagons and utes only and sending them to the states for guys to convert their Chevy SS, Luminas and Pontiac GTOs to common ol Aussie cars. Likewise we have guys in Australia with their SS Commodores all fitted with GTO front end or Chevy SS face-lift. Its just cause it's different. Another phenomena that has carried throughout motor vehicle history across all makes and brands and across all countries. I love it

I love how people are crapping on an engine in the 80s making 292 hp. the 82 vette only put out 180-190 hp Smog and Emissions had killed the HP and with the gas crisis and insurance 292 was good HP for the day with all the emissions parts nerfing the possible power. Sure it isnt a 1000 hp but it is a pretty high tech motor for its time. Should get a Machstang emblem for it.

This guy reminds me of an Aussie kind of humour. I was not expecting this from one of your videos? The sound is so compatible with the car and even the little Tri-star wheels being factory actually makes this car like an old school exotic......but somehow the theme is not just compatible but is complementary. Well done on what I would call a tasteful homage to an era 👌 Extremely unique combination that works and checks the boxes with a large ceiling for cubic inches......but it's perfect as it is.

My mom had a V12, and it was a hunk of shit. Years later I asked them why they bought it, and they told me they went to the dealership for the Sovereign, but then they noticed an XJ-S standing in the corner at a very low price. Dealer told them it had been ordered by a customer and during the first drive, something shorted and the roof started developing an electrical fire. Customer brought it back to the dealership and subsequently refused to buy it, so the dealer repaired it and tried to sell it ASAP; priced it accordingly.

@@trenchtown69 The XJS is such a good car. Obviously the power isn't that good compared to a modern vehicle, and it's not a sports but a GT car. Still, it was the fastest production automatic car you could buy in the 80s and even won the cannonball run one year (late 70s).

I owned a V12 XJ which I did the same Tremec conversion to. Then I painted it flat black and then replaced the 5.3 with a 7.0 TWR V12. Was actually asked to leave a Jag show. stand at one event At that point I knew I was on the right track. But, as I pointed out to everyone that said I'd ruined the car. It was headed for the junkyard when I got hold of it. My next one was an XJR. It also got a 5 speed conversion and then I painted it Harley Davidson Denim black. They loved that one too.

A read a few books on this V12. A bit large for the E- type and had cooling air flow problems under the bonnet and would overheat on the autobahn. It was designed before computer simulation so it was designed with experience. The design around the waterpump was shown to the chief engineer and just by looking at it, he said, add another bolt. The JWR XJS wasn't that keen on turning or accel/decel even though they stripped out a lot of weight.

The 2.88 was an HE V12 ratio. The pre HE stock V12 ratio was 3.31 both being limited slip. It wasn't Lucas fuel injection it was all Bosch but with Lucas labels on the computer and the old analogue brass bellows MAP sensor. If the Jaguar one failed you could get a Volvo 146 MAP sensor and it would work. Really these engines don't give much trouble but the big end bearings do wear out well before the rest of the engine. It is definitely worth replacing them. Even the long timing chain and guide rails are pretty good and don't give much trouble. Re overheating, they're not really an overheating engine so long as everything works. I get they have a reputation for overheating but due to packaging (read nightmare to work on) a lot of maintenance was deferred due to high labor costs, causing cooling system failures and expensive repairs. A good ignition upgrade is make a hybrid HE system. You use the pre HE distributor and HE distributor and make one dizzy with a reluctor and pickup and use the HE ignition module and HE coil (very important). Inside the HE box is a regular old GM HEI 4 pin module. Replace that with a new one. After you've done that you'll have a really excellent ignition. I had Crane optical and it failed not once but twice. It is not good so I evolved the ignition above. It is pretty easy to do. I can't remember all the details but I do remember it was easy. IIRC the HE upper distributor shaft and breaker/reluctor plate has to go on the pre HE lower dizzy shaft but I can't remember which distributor body I used then you put the pre HE vac advance on it and voila. Wiring was simple but I have the HE and pre HE manuals. All the time taken was in the planning. Without forced induction the most power you can easily get out of them is about 400hp. 450hp costs a lot more. People who say they get 600 out of them NA must be turning them to 8000rpm and have unlimited budget for cylinder head modification since the stock pre HE heads really are only capable of 400-450hp even then with quite a lot of mods - exhaust short turn radius issues again. They don't have a sophisticated combustion chamber just a flat cylinder head like a diesel and bowl in piston, so the only easy way to get more power is to up the compression. Going to 10.5:1 pistons over pistons in the 8 range really works. The stock 4 piece exhaust manifolds are pretty good. In the 400-450hp range for the effort custom headers don't make sense, that's pretty well established. 4x long primary tubes out of the exhaust manifolds work though and are quite an improvement over the stock Y pipes on each bank. Even a balance tube between the exhausts makes no difference. I've played with these a bit. Even stock they love to rev. If you get them over 5000rpm they start coming to life. They easily turn 6500rpm stock - easily. It's not until you start turning them there that you understand. The revs just keep coming. They only have a 2.75" stroke.

6:00 Cor. This man got an entire V-12 engine for less than I could get a similar condition open diff for my '75 BMW 2002. And very relatedly to that (though she only has two): there's just SOMETHING about Webers. They add a lot to the sound of a car, to it's presence and just it's feeling of being alive. Edit: I just wanna say thanks for some of the comments you both made about why we gearnerds do what we do. I've been getting a bit frustrated with my project lately and really needed the reminder of 'why'. Also, those covers are good for shows. People have a thing about shoving stuff into weber horns.

These v12's are tuned down a lot compared to the race version, but it genuinely is the same engine that won Le Mans in 88. Yeah they're expensive to build, but where else can you get a le mans winning v12 for cheap? Only Jaguar.

excellent build ! love the Mach I Mustang and glad to see someone who actually loves it thanks to the original Gone In 60 Seconds, which I think is quite superior to the Nic Cage reboot, between the 70s music and the awesome chase scenes ; and just as Dalton from Pole Barn Garage would say, "mmmh, yes, it's partly a Jaaaag yes mmmh"
