Thank you Pat for passing along what you have learned. And of course Deb also for filming Pat.

Dear Pat, you got my attention recently because of your style, the lite hands, and sensitivity and all. I had an opportunity to retrain a bunch of stable horses to get off the bit and on the bit the way the teachers started horses from the french Cadre Noir de Saumure. It is a tiny trick that makes training a breeze for ever after. You have a great amount of similar techniques. In fact I find you to be simply amazing. And I'm quite grateful that you are able to teach so many young people to treat and train their horses correctly. Because of you it made me wonder if that riding style still existed..look it up. Have a great day..vb

I always called the after ride grooming the "kiss and make up" relaxing time. My horses always enjoyed the pampering! Not that I wore them out schooling, but recognized how they gave me their own efforts!

Hobbling above the knee... Happy Birthday

You are a national treasure, sir! Don't stop making these videos. I think you keep the hobble up so high because it makes him look dangerous so the other horses won't pick on him for being a mule. 😜

That was probably the best, most informative (for the subject of course) instruction I’ve watched.

Thanks for making the video anyway!! I never feel bad or defeated going back to the halter, mostly thanks to you repeating that often. Guess I’m not the only one whose back doesn’t like bending for the hobbles, but I never thought of putting them above the knee - something new to try out. Oh, I do enjoy the ride and all, but I’m with you on the grooming, and just hanging out with my horses, it is why I have them. 🤠

Wonderful video. I have a rescue horse whose backstory I don't know, and that jaw business was his #1 issue when I got him. He'd be going in a circle on a lead rope and then halfway around decide OK I'm done with this and set his jaw to the outside and off he'd go. He never got away from me, but he got away from a few people -- between setting the jaw and pulling HARD... He's had some good work since then and it's mostly gone but that jaw came back with another handler recently. Less determination tho. Anyway I perked up right away when Pat started talking about THE JAW, because it wasn't something I'd run into before. Thanks Pat.

I would venture a guess that hobbles above the knee may signal him to not move and he can feel it a bit more, but not sure. Or maybe just so Pat does not have to bend down so far to put hobbles on. He is kind of smart like that! The colt sure walks out nice and is gonna be a real good one!

Thanks for sharing your colt starting with us. It's fascinating. Since he wasn't very bracey on this ride, did you go straight back to the hackamore on the next ride, or did you stay in the halter a few more rides?
@PatnDebPuckett3 жыл бұрын
I went straight back to the hackamore.

My view of cleaning the horse up after you work them is one of respect. If you like your horse, if you respect your horse why would you put them away with dried sweat and saddle or harness marks on them. That to me is showing a decided lack of respect to your animal. Not good!

He's finally growing out of the gangly tween age look... By the time he turns completely white he's going to be one hell of a nice horse... I hope he's yours to keep.
