Debra your jazz hands bring me so much joy. When I see you speaking with passion and counseling the less fortunates, it’s like someone placed a huge plate of spaghetti in front of me. Mountains of meatballs and even oysters . I eat everything and become so happy 🎉 congratulations Debrah fileta

Some people think that self care is selfish. But it isn't selfish. We have to take care of ourselves especially when we take care of others.

So true: recently I didn’t realize how much my anxiety was effecting my children or even leaking out of me… but when my special needs little guy acted out in a way out of control way… I got the message it’s time for me to change.

As a single mom with no family around and no financial support, this is a slippery slope. I don't care how many times I cast my cares, pray, praise, when everything is on your shoulders to get done (or bills don't get paid, household doesn't run well), it feels like I've been in survival mode (esp financially) in the entirety of my son's life (he'll be 18 in 3 months). Very little time to savor life and rest.

Praying for you this morning! ❤ I can't imagine how hard it has been to raise a child alone! I hope you have a great day!

This is exactly what I have been experiencing! I thought it was just anxiety, I thought I was beginning to lose my mind. Meanwhile, I just have been denying true rest and surrender in Christ. I will definitely take the time and practice SOUL care, so that I can be filled and actually love and serve others well. 🥺

Protect. Connect. Savor, Nourish, & tune in 🎶 🎵 tune 🆙 are the ones I need the to pay attention to most. Protecting my kids: from themselves, each other… idleness, the world’s threats (3 school threats in 1 week just at their school alone - that seem contagious) … my nerves get so fried I can’t even sleep. I avoid my bed trying to get more done while everyone else in the household sleeps while listening on Bluetooth headphones to news or pastors’ messages… Thank you for this check in! Thank you for this work! Can’t wait to read or listen to this book!

Thank God for my overwhelming chores that keep me out of trouble! And keep my nose to the grindstone of honoring these blessing He has 💝 gifted me with that I prayed for my whole life. Thank you, God for the focus on a family that needs me. That requires the work only a mother can do. Thank God!

SOUL CARE! Where have you been the past decade I’ve been mothering!?! 😅😂 Self care includes basics like showering, sleeping, trimming our toenails. It doesn’t even have to be luxe spa treatments or expensive cosmetic procedures. For those in abusive or narcissistic relationships, self care can mean speaking up for one self, getting help, or moving to shift the dynamic and attain distance from a potentially dangerous situation. So many seem to be these days in a self-preservation mode. Not just like spa massage luxury version. Most folks I know are struggling with trying to afford enough fruits, vegetables, and healthy food sources rather than food products. Or housing! For their families. And the amount of work necessary to like afford health care / insurance takes more than most of us have to give: hours wise and energy wise. In the ‘80’s and ‘90’s when America had a stronger economy, we could focus on such luxuries as our soul’s calling - even take church and God for granted. But these days, survival is the name of the game and that is a daily battle that steals our attention from that of our soul or its connection with the Divine. Thank you! 🙏Thank you! For this much needed decision!

Unfortunately, the answer to “how do we know whether we are choosing to do self-care for selfish reasons” was not a sufficiently complete response and could actually (in many cases) cause more harm to those that are dangerously depleted by using that response as a measuring stick. When you are so depleted, you may not even have the capacity to be thinking how you can fill yourself up so you can serve more. It’s entirely possible, that you could be so depleted at points that you can’t even think of serving anyone or anything

So true !! I took care of everyone but myself . People do take advantage of me. I pray for people that have taken advantage of me but it hurts so much. I stayed quiet to much because I didn’t know what to say. I’ll just keep praying for everyone that has left me. People tell so many lies just to make themselves look good.
