Paying off your debt (even in the form of a settlement) should increase your credit score because it is showing that you have paid of the debt in some way. Although when you finish paying off your debt the creditor may decide to do a "Pay to delete" where they remove it from your credit report but they may also mark it as "settled for less" in which case it may cap how much your credit score may grow for the next 7 years.

I have a question for you. If the debt is under my business name, does debt relif program still affect my credit score. In other words, does a business debt relief program affect personal credit report?

My girlfriend got into a debt settlement with one of this companies without checking all the cons of the situation. Now after 1 month she wants to get out. Now they are asking for $6,0000 to get her out of the contract. They state that they already settle one account and not even a month has passed. Also, the "settled" account is not even in collections, she just missed one payment because they told her too. What can we do to fix this situation and get her out or what is the best way to tackle this situation ?? Thank you.

Okay he's the situation. I really hope you answer my question. I'm in a Debt settlement program and I'm finished in a month. I've never been late or ever missed a payment even before I signed up for the program. Will my credit score suffer then? Second I'm trying to re- apply to one of the credit card companies. Should I apply now? Or wait until everything is paid? My score is currently 773. Thanks in advance.
