I wish guidance counselors would stop pushing college as the only way to succeed. It's an antiquated idea that has left many struggling to deal with massive debt, as well as harming skilled labor fields by creating massive worker shortages. Makes me wonder if some of them get kick backs from schools? Not everyone is college material, not everyone wants to go on to a career that requires a college degree. We really need to change this thinking. I know so many people in the 20-30 age range that are up to their eyeballs in debt and don't see how they are ever going to get ahead because the jobs available to them, despite having a college degree, don't pay all that much better.

A related topic might be, When SHOULD you take on debt (if ever)? A mortgage for a home is a form of debt. How about debt for a medical expense for a necessary procedure? And the big one, Should you EVER take on debt for schooling? To me it seems like we gamble all the time in life, and taking on debt is just another form of gambling, gambling that we'll be able to pay it off eventually and will benefit in the long run. Excellent job as always!

Never. We bought 5 acres of land...cash which we are turning into farm land. Keller Williams is training me to sell real estate. They're paying for my schooling. My husband's job covers our insurance costs. When I become licensed I will cover that. We have no debt so we save and invest the difference (over half his paycheck).
@Avo7bProject4 ай бұрын
Debt makes sense when you are being paid to borrow. Examples: Zero percent balance transfers ("earning money" in a sense versus consumer inflation), or using credit cards responsibly by paying them off and collecting points reward programs. Another one, which is rare, but I've seen it during extreme market turmoil: Is being able to buy dividend-paying securities for a better rate than the carrying cost of margin debt. The market is essentially desperate for long positions and paying you to enter.

I agree, it's the only thing I've been conditioned to know that a mortgage is what you pay gradually for, everything else you can't afford it, you can't have it. I believe the true cause of debt is fear of what other people think, it's being completely submissive to their opinions of us hence why we buy so much to impress them.
@aisha76434 ай бұрын
From Islamic financing perspective I can say taking debt and then paying it off with interest is something highly condemned and we call it riba(usury) Also this is one of the major sins for which Allah has announced war against the person who involves themselves. Unfortunately even though coming from a religious background my family purchased a car by taking loan, it took so so many years to finally be rid of debt and it makes sense why it's such a grave sin.. It's just so immoral to take advantage of other humans basic needs.

Couple counter arguments: MC is not selling debt, they are selling experiences that the people enjoying them can likely afford (paid off in full end of month with bonus points.) Mercedes is not selling picking up chicks lol, they are suggesting a woman likes and is attracted to a successful man. Every car has 4 tires, a wheel and an engine but unless you have driven and owned a luxury vehicle, paid for in cash, you are really missing an experience. Enjoy this short ride we have here on this plain.
