The Silent Hill movie based some of their imagery off of Centralia, not the games.
@BloodRedFox2008
@BloodRedFox2008 Ай бұрын
Was just about to say the same. Yeah people forget that Centralia inspired the town in the MOVIE. The games have always been ambiguous on if the town is based on any one place. One fun fact that is from the games though is the school in the first game was based on the school from Kindergarten Cop, with some textures even being directly based off some of the movie scenery.

The second one is about Centralia. It's an old ghost town that back in the day had a mine fire that is still burning due to the high about of coal dust. I have no idea why they they would say anything about WW2 defences because; 1. A ground invasion of America from Europe is nearly impossible and even if it was, defenses wouldn't be put up until an invasion was under way. 2. You'd have to go past like 3 states before you get to PA if there was an invasion. 3. The sign says "underground mine fire."
@1gient
@1gient 4 ай бұрын
Try the other way, US also fought a pacific front and actually prevented several Aleutian invasions. One was of Dutch Harbor where they picked up the first intact zero fighter (and the only one to make it through the defenses at Dutch Harbor). There's also a small island absolutely littered with WWII debris. Not sure if they actually left any defenses, I would assume no. There's some Civil War ordinance left around but they're like finding gold from how rare they are. Of course that's not a ground invasion nor is it on the east coast let alone a mostly landlocked state.

You did pronounce it wrong, but thats not a bad thing because there would be no way for you to find out how to pronounce it, and its quite funny. I appreciate the work you put in to researching this stuff because I never knew that they used to do wartime drills at woolacombe, but I was aware of it at a different beach called slapton sands on the south coast. Its pronounced more like woollercome if you were wondering, but I doubt you'll ever need to say it again.

for the sign where its like “Theres ww2 defenses in Pennsylvania” there isn’t but in maryland (south of Pennsylvania) there is the Aberdeen Proving Ground, which is a military test and clean up site. they clean up hazardous wastes, and it is where Edgewood Arsenal is. It has existed for 100 years. A lot of the area near it is prohibited from the public because of the old dangerous materials they still clear out. They still do cleanup sites (in MD and other states as well) so, while there def isn’t WW2 things around, there are hazardous areas around areas of the east coast due to military testing. (also Pennsylvania has superfund sites which are from pollution.)

History expert here, World war 2 defenses does not mean explosives, If they were to refer to something explosive it would directly say so no need to be scared, the defenses they are referring to are concrete barriers and hedgehogs, which are giant x shape peices of metal to keep tanks from driving forward, so you don't have to worry about stepping on land mines or unexploded bombs

The thing about Silent Hill being based on Centralia is because the art director of the /movie/ said they were inspired by it, since they wanted a clear reason for the 'permanent fog' shrouding the town, and it ended up being conflated with the game as an inspiration. In the movie, the 'fog' is indeed ashfall from a subterranean mine fire.
