In this thought-provoking video, I debunk the claim that guns are the number one killer of kids in America, a narrative often pushed by politicians and anti-Second Amendment groups. At first glance, it sounds terrifying, as if all these little kids are being murdered by guns. But let's take a closer look.
The argument stems from a letter published by the New England Journal of Medicine, which uses CDC homicide numbers to conclude that "guns are the leading killer of children and adolescents in the United States." However, their definition of children and adolescents includes anyone aged 1 to 19 years!
Wait a minute, aren't 18 and 19-year-olds considered adults?
The Center Prevention Research Center points out that including 18 and 19-year-olds is misleading, especially considering the high incidence of gang violence within that age group.
Moreover, the inclusion of self-deletion numbers in this statistic is unwarranted. Studies show that in places where guns are banned, total self-deletion rates remain unchanged. So why include these numbers?
Excluding firearm self-deletions would significantly reduce the CDC's statistics by 30 to 35 percent, revealing a different picture.
There's also a deceptive issue with using homicide numbers instead of murder numbers.
Homicides encompass murder as well as self-defense shootings by both civilians and law enforcement. Including self-defense shootings in a statistic used to justify restricting guns is misleading and fails to acknowledge that guns can save lives when used responsibly.
When we consider all these deceptive definitions and factors, the narrative changes.
While the inflated numbers may suggest that guns were the leading cause of death for those under the age of 20 in 2020 and 2021, this changes when we focus specifically on those under 18. From 2019 to 2021, guns are not the highest killer of children and adolescents within that age range.
So the next time someone brings up the claim that guns are the number one killer of kids, share this video with them

More children die from drowning, auto accidents, fires, orthopedic injuries, eye injuries from accidents. Also, cancer. The news cannot report death of children, accidents, or their names, without permission from their parents. Also, many children die from abuse!!! I have cared for many abused babies & children. So, if you receive your data from MSM, it is incorrect. Healthcare Professionals cannot tell others outside of the Healthcare Systems about their patients, diagnosis,& deaths.

Between the lockdowns keeping cars off the roads and bumping up the suicide rate, you can see why the metric would shift. That and the 2020 riots. Actually, IIRC, I first heard that BS in the 1960s, when HCI (Handgun Control Inc) was trying to ban all handguns. The devil back then was the "Saturday Night Special". A low cost handgun that many people in the democrat controlled towns carried (mostly illegally) to protect themselves from thugs. It was also a favorite tool of criminals. It turned out, the dem voters didn't want to give up their handguns. I believe it's still that way today.. After that major failure, they picked out the AR-15 for demonization, and have been working on that for at least 60 years.. Let me give you some background on my Early education with weapons my grandfather was a world war 2 and and Korean vet he taught all of his kids including me and my cousins who I consider my seblings to always treat a gun as if it were loaded when he would clean his guns he would often let me set with him and hand him the various parts and tools that it took to do the job no matter what the gun was when I was about six my very first weapon was a bean flip (also known as a slingshot or catapult) when he taught me to hit six out of six beer cans he took me down to the garden where the sweet corn was growing put me under the shade tree him with his shotgun and taught me to shoot blackbirds and crows out of our corn when I was about eleven or twelve he gave me a Stevens 20 gauge shotgun and turn me loose I had always known what a gun was for what it could do and not to aim it at something unless I intended to kill it and not kill it unless I intend to eat it or if it was causing harm to our crops or livestock I've never hert anybody with a firearm but I have had to draw on people before never had to fire though

While yes, they most certainly used 18 and 19yr olds to substantially conflate the numbers but it only "works" in their favor because of how the word "teen" effects the thought process in many peoples minds. That whole "teen" part of the number causes many people minds to ignore the legal adult part. I think the other thing that helps them get away with it and why the whole "teen" thing works for them is because most seniors in high school will likely be 18 before they graduate so still being in school causes many people's minds to process them as "children" regardless of the fact that they are "adults".

When you hear numbers like, 36 thousand are killed every yr by firearms.. It is a shocking number. But when you hear that more than 60% of those were by suicide, the picture changes a little. Then there is the fact that defensive shootings are also included in that original number, as are accidental shootings. So, the real number ends-up around 12 thousand firearm related homicides each yr.. Of which, around 80% are gang related homicides. There is a lot more to the story than just a total.

I posted this elsewhere but glad it was addressed by someone with a platform! What’s extremely frustrating is that out of an American population of +300M only 3200 children suffered firearm related deaths. Not demeaning the values of their lives, however more so to emphasize that these stats were generated from the controlled group of ages 1-19. Furthermore the children under the age of 1 weren’t included in said study since there are multiple factors of infantile deaths that would have negatively impacted the goal of blaming firearms as the leading cause of deaths. Coming around to my second point 65% of the children’s deaths are assigned to homoc**. And 35% is suic*** . Third point. If they had actually included birth to 18/19 years of age. 1400 attributed to Sudden infant death syndrome, 4400 deaths from congenital abnormalities, and 3100 from short gestation/preterm birth. If you were to roughly sum up the three categories of Infant deaths that’s 9,000 less than 1 year olds that are dying alone without factoring in the remaining 17years of children in the age bracket that hasn’t been accounted for in the study. My final point being we focus on the statistics of the past and change the criteria of how we reach a certain number in order to push and promote an agenda of ours at the expense of misleading, cheating and lying to our fellow brothers and sisters in regards to our protected freedoms. This is a dangerous slippery slope we have begun to traverse and if we do not stop in our tracks and reverse our trajectory we will be heading towards perilous times for our nation. Just because a person seems more confident in a conversation or Carry’s the louder tone doesn’t mean they’re correct. Side note: kids used to be kids, in the last decade there’s been a dramatic shift towards hastening the growth of our youth and ushering them into the difficulties of adulthood long before they’re cognitively emotionally or physically prepared to shoulder the burdens of adulthood. Most people think of kids as 12 and under, which is the image they are intentionally trying to conjure up in the minds of the gullible. Accidental injury including drowning is the leading cause of death for kids under 13. That's actually more important information for parents, because it means they should be focused on keeping their home safe for a child, and educating their child on safety regarding things like playing in the street, playing near power lines, playing with knives, playing with fire, etc. Instead, these politicians are telling those parents that not having a gun in the house is the main concern.

You are correct though , in past societies (where the life expectancy was much lower than today) the age of majority for males was 25, they were minors until then and not adults, they could not enter into contracts without their guardians approval. @Robert Clark Up until 1971 you had to be 21 to vote in quite a few states. Up until the Selective Service Act of 1942, only those 21 and older could join the USA army without parental consent / be drafted, they were actually considered minors. The idea of 18 being the age of emancipation from parents and age of majority is a relatively new idea. Seeing as it is mostly 21 to drink (the excuse is federally it is 18, not quite sure what the military does) and tons of states have moved purchasing cigarettes / vapes to 21. Is it not time to change the military / voting age? Especially as we have Congressman Nadler calling for gun ownership to be restricted to those 21 or older as the brains of 18 year olds are not fully developed (the video is great as the Republican immediately hits back and asks him to join him in a bill reverting the draft age to 21, to which Nadler comes up with all sorts of excuses). Seeing as they are claiming those 18 and 19 are kids / children. Should our leaders appear before the UN and face trial for using child soldiers?

My first year in grad school we were encountered to read the book How to Lie with Statistics. That may be a paraphrase, this is from memory from 35 years ago. While not required reading, the stats prof said the book had clear examples if how to change or manipulate the predictors/independent variable to produce a desired outcome. I find it interesting that self-deletion was first kept track of as a cause of death in the world sometime around 1950. Since then, it has been in the top 10 causes worldwide for almost that entire time. Since then mental health systems and programs have been cut drastically while new conditions are pushed to be considered a mental health situation for that very system to deal with. In many cases, those who have very serious issues such as schizophrenia have been denied help while people with the newer things that have been added were put in front of the line. I think that has done nothing but make things worse for those that suffer the most and that is one of the things that has kept the self-ending in that top 10 for so very long with no end in sight for there being any positive change with it. The blame is not on guns, it is people. It has always been people.

​@@celticwarlord4204 Technically a child is someone below the age of puberty with the cut off age for childhood being 13 so if you want to be technical then by many definitions someone above the age of 12 would not be considered a child from a biological standpoint given that childhood ends with adolescence and teenage puberty. However maybe you can call 13-15 year-olds children but calling a 17 year-old or even a 16 year-old a child in the same sense as a 10 year-old is utterly absurd considering they are done with puberty and are months away from hitting age of majority in most states so it would be very much a stretch to call 16-17 year-olds children even if they are legally minors.

@@celticwarlord4204 Your also allowed to consent in many states , your allowed to drive , your allowed to drop out of school in most states (With parental consent) and if I recall correctly your allowed to join the army at 17 with parental consent so I would not really call a 17 or 16 year-old a child . A 16-17 year-old is only really a child in the sense that they are children of their parents or that they are minors but besides that they are not really children in any meaningful sense of the word.
