Did you know that the biblical story of the burning bush is all about smoking DMT? Joe Rogan talked all about it in his podcast so it must be true... right? Well, I'm not so convinced so in this video I debunk this particular nugget of psychedelic mythology and offer my opinion on why its probably complete nonsense.

i think they knew the difference between a bush and a tree. Peganum Harmala is far more appropriate, and would easily intoxicate if burned harmaline and harmine are ten times more abundant there than any plant has any amount of dmt in it if your diet already included any mao-metabolized psychoactives then they would be potentiated most of the biblical dietary restrictions also make more sense when viewed from the perspective of avoiding hypotensive crisis in the general public when they come to the temple hotbox to worship. and ime the visuals from harmaline/harmine alone are in fire like tones of gold, red and orange larger doses also subdue the egoic voice making the still-silent voice more appreciable and this often described elsewhere as the voice of god (William james, Alan watts, et al iirc) there is allegedly one type of acacia in australia that has potent enough leaves to get some effect from smoking them, but it is rare and endangered and confined to small niche ecosystem (iirc) i would remember too that in a world without tv and telephones any imagery occurring would be a sought after state, and in a culture primed for religious visions in the lay community, celebrated weekly in the temple, they may not have needed to remark on the typical, like we don't talk about how wonderous tv is anymore, it's just accepted. that's how you chilled out. that and good old kaneh-bosm.

Hamilton Morris talked about a valley he went to where people burned Mimosa Hostilis as fire wood and he said that the smell of DMT was everywhere like in your video. The DMT in the acacia or any other plant is not in freebase form, it is in salt form which is not that sensible to burning. There are acacia acuminatas that have a very high DMT content in leaf , stem , bark , branches , and root. And he could have been very sensitive to DMT and close to schizophrenia.

Its possible, although that theory has some problems. Its very common in the Amazon for ayahuasca to contain all kinds of different plants, so I think what probably happened is that the vine only brew came first, which has an effect all of its own, and then they started adding different things. At some point they added the chacruna leaves and... well the rest is history 🙂

"everywhere" is probably the closest answer. criticaly though, as many places overtly or subvertly deny or dislike conciousness. there are no truths there, only knots of inconsistency. conciousness is self looping itterative calculation in a way that creates resonance rather than escalation or negation. it can vibe with other redonances and is self aware as a necessary feature. conciouness is the root of all value, as conciousness needs to value to persist and values require a valuer. so any evaluation proves the valid value of conciousness and values. a negation is impossible, and would be a lie. humans are a little better than worse, so too is the universe. evil can't create and will starve itself. when is the question though. the universe iteself is concious across time. we are nodes of it too. never sell freedom for safety, of no individual or whole

While I am a Christian, my relationship with God has always held skepticism in my heart about the Moses with the DMT bush deception. I was oftentimes very puzzled by this. I do take the Bible myself as the truth and believe in the Book of Exodus, however, I also am spiritually aware, that in the spirit realms (the DMT world), there are both tricksters and truthtellers.

Although I agree with you about the burning bush I read in the temple, the high priest would burn acacia incense until the holy of holy was full of smoke. I can't help but wonder if it doesn't function like hot boxing with condensed incense cones. I also do not think it's a coincidence that the arc of the covenant is said to contain God and that it is made of acacia wood.
@diablominero

Mimosa hostilis primarily generates DMT in its roots, and people don't typically burn roots as firewood in my experience.
@AdeptusPsychonautica
@AdeptusPsychonautica 9 ай бұрын
The highest concentrations are generally in the roots, but the plant generates its throughout, and given the quantities involved in burning for heating then you would expect some noticeable effect.
@JoshuaRolen
@JoshuaRolen 9 ай бұрын
It is prescribed in Exodus 36:20 that the Temple was to be constructed of Acacia wood. Why not some other wood? I know that doesn't prove Moses was on Sirian rue and acacia root bark, but it does point to the possibility, at the very least. Also, if you believe in God, you might suppose that God was intentionally vaporising the DMT from the bush without burning it, in such a fashion that a whiff of it would be potent enough.
@AdeptusPsychonautica
@AdeptusPsychonautica 9 ай бұрын
Acacia is renowned for being durable, dense, and hard. It is a premium wood, so if someone is going to construct a temple to God out of wood then it makes sense they would use the best material. As for God performing miracles to vaporize DMT, if he is going to do something like that then why bother with the DMT at all? Surely he could just magically invoke the mystical experience within Moses as he does with other people in the bible?

I've always heard that EHIH, the bush, was mushrooms. I've heard it speculated that Solomon’s Temple is the DMT experience. Ancient hebrews did make insence from the Acacia tree. If they hotboxed enough insence made of concentrated Acacia in an enclosed space, they could possibly have had a psychedelic experience. I thought it was BS until I did a cold water extraction on mimosa and turned 50g of bark into 2g of dried material. I didn't try smoking it through.
@AdeptusPsychonautica
@AdeptusPsychonautica 9 ай бұрын
Its extremely doubtful that you can hotbox DMT due to the relatively low temperature at which it burns into inactive goop. Its practically impossible to control that in an open fire and the example provided by Hamilton Morris in this video demonstrates that.

I've heard Joe Rogan talk about the burning bush quite a few times but I never took it for a literal claim. I always took it as a conversation about symbolic meanings embedded in tradition. Though I might be wrong of course because there is a lot of Joe Rogan conversations and I have barely heard a tiny fraction of it all. Then again, for this symbolic narrative to be true; the other Rogan claim, the one about a reset in human civilization probably needs to be true as well. Because I don't think DMT extraction was very easily accomplished by antiquity peasants. The knowledge must have been acquired and retold until it became myth before it was recorded in writing 3000 years ago. So, yeah, it's rather unlikely but I don't think it's absolutely outside the realm of possibility.

I don't think your investigation is extensive enough to have closed the book on biblical psycoactives. Syrian Rue and Kaneh Bosm were both known to be used, and it's not implausible that Rue got combined with Acacia. The burning bush was not implicated as the source of the vision, it WAS the vision. Plus the Mosaic Jews were familiar with Egyptian culture, so they knew about blue lotus wine, and there were likely connections between the Egyptians and the Greek Eleusinian Mysteries, which used a psychoactive brew based on ergot. Palestine also had trade with the Persians, who developed quite a pharmacology.
@AdeptusPsychonautica
@AdeptusPsychonautica 9 ай бұрын
You are somewhat missing the point, and I am guessing you didn't watch the full video. I don't "close the book" on any of that stuff, I am simply addressing the people (like Joe Rogan and the thousands of people on psychedelics forums that repeat this narrative) who believe that the burning bush = literal smoked DMT, hence why the bush MUST be an acacia bush. In their eyes the bush is clearly the source of the vision, because DMT + heat = God experience.

That's actually a pretty good theory which I hadn't considered for this scenario. I was recently talking with the DMT researcher Andrew Gallimore, and he suggested that the NDE experience could be triggered in the lungs as a response to lack of oxygen and the brain going into a kind of emergency state. I'll probably make a video on that in future.

It's funny because even though I'm an atheist I totally do reference the Moses burning bush story every now and then but for a completely different reason than everyone else in the psychedelic community. I turn it into a cautionary tale warning others about the potential negative effects the psychedelic experience can have on an individuals ego. Moses was the only one guy from the whole freakin' tribe that got to go up the mountain and meet god and since I got involved in psychedelic activism and the decriminalization movement I've met plenty of people now that have had a couple of powerful experiences and start calling themselves a Shaman and open up a website offering their professional guidance and wisdom to others. It can be steroids for the ego and I've even met a couple people that got so out there they started referring to themselves in the 3rd person. So I caution people when I can that if they start to see themselves as the next Moses because they believe the "burning bush" chose them over everyone else in the tribe, its because they've been feeding their ego unhealthy delusions and that anyone that applies themselves can have these experiences. Keep up the good work buddy!

So one person loves snakes. Handles snakes, no problem. Another person terrified of snakes. So what does that mean? That means it's in the person. It's not in the snake and likewise about money. There are some billionaires and millionaires who are more afraid of going broke than there are people who are like hippies and maybe only have a hundred bucks in their pocket or a thousand dollars in their savings account and you know they're cheerful. They're happy. They don't really care about money very much. Money is not a big deal to them the way they were raised. They're kind of just carefree. They kind of go with the flow. They're more spontaneous. They're not worried about how to pay the bills and all that stuff. So you see the hippie has less fear in this case than the billionaire. How can that be? Because the mind is constructing it. All fear is imaginary.

Sure, our subjective experience is a construct which in itself is modified by the exterior reality.

U havnt read the bible .the Moses story is just that a story .its the mechanism to explain how they interact with the deity .its all about the holy incense in the tent .thats where they see the deity every time they burn it in the tabernacle. 1.burn incense see god 2 . People die lighting incense Acadia Senegal has a hydrocarbon in it 3.every ancient religion had cultic rituals that revolved around plant alkaloids There’s more bread crumbs than just the story of the burning bush .it will always be one of those mysteries .and the story has been sanitised over time

Have you not considered the fact that the bible is metaphorical and not literal? The peope who wrote the bible portrayed information through stories, not through literal information like we do nowadays, the language of the old world is symbolism not science, I feel like this is the main obstacle between ancient knowledge and modern man, modern people have difficulty understanding anything that isn't cold hard scientific reductionism, this will always keep ancient knowledge hidden from you, since it's invalid when looked at through this paradigm The bible makes much more sense when viewed as basically a symbolic and esoteric guide to psychology and self-realisation before science was a thing, God is consciousness, Satan is the ego etc. It was never meant to be literal, imagine trying to explain consciousness to people without any of the fancy terms and shit we have today, stories where these concepts are anthropomorphised is the only way for pre-science populations to even remotely understand

Not only did I consider it, I included a section on that topic within the very video you are commenting on kzbin.info/www/bejne/e33Fcmtta9KJmNksi=o_pLbTGPMb0wcHmV&t=420 My questions back to you - have you ever considered actually watching videos before commenting on them rather than just reacting to the first minute or thumbnail? Further to that would you concede that regardless of the intention of the writers of the bible, that there are indeed people who take it absolutely literally?

I'm not sure that talking about something quite equals "a hill to die on", but putting that slight exaggeration aside... You can't hotbox DMT with alkaloids straight from a plant that is simply on fire - all the reasons why are in the video (temperature control would be the main one)

@@AdeptusPsychonautica sure - that sounds like a much better way to phrase that part. no disagreements there. re the fumigation: sounds like you’ve really scrutinised this and ill be honest i hadn’t quite made the linkys between what you were saying in the videos and what i was saying about burning it - i was still quite focussed on it being a “probs couldn’t burn a bush and get a concentrated enough dose with so much diffusion going on in an open setting” trail of thought. i mean overall we are debating what might be fact or fiction inside something that is purely paraphrases at best if there is any truth in there. (imho) so always room for people to get lost. look forward to the next vid :)

I think is also fair to point that we already understand that the primitive judaism was a shamanic religion, they were using oils made from plants in their rites and even the whole temple, its furniture and also the priest were greased by that oil. Most of the judaic community already accept that the plant called "kaneh bohsen" that was on the recipe of this holy oil was probably c4nn4bis. We also have the fact that the leadership in cannabis studies for the past decades was Israel, this just help to corroborate with this possibly use of c4nn4bis by primitive hebrews. So they're a people that somewhere in a time long time ago have the inclination to use plants on rites settings (like almost every human settlement), so an analog form of ayahuasca with plants endemic to the region is very very possible

Remembering the moses history, the bible scriptures also point the he had comeback from the mount sinai and people avoided to talk to him because his face was shinning, for me its sound like he was coming back from a trip still a bit overwhelmed. But this is all probably fairy tale, as one of the greatest empire that had the tradition to write down in documents in the first papers humanity had crafted everything that happened its sad how they didnt write anything about moses and its exodus
