Wrapping up our reaction to the debut album of Black Sabbath with our first time hearing Evil Woman, Wicked World, A Bit of Finger / Sleeping Village / Warning
This is our first time listening to these songs. We are re-experiencing classic rock, an album at a time, with fresh perspectives and active ears, so that Dev can learn and appreciate this music more, and so that Mike can relive his childhood.

Warning is a FANTASTIC song. Toni's guitar work in that long instrumental interlude is a smorgasbord of base building key elements of most ALL metal riffs for the next 10-15 years and can still be found in metal today and Ozzy's vocals and emotions he expresses, amazing.

Warning is my favorite off the album. "I was born without you baby but my feelings were a little bit too strong" Iommi appears on The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus. Tull is on the recording no Martin Barre. It is Tony. On the recording besides them is John Lennon, The Stones, The Who and Tull.🎸😎🎼

Brilliant debut album. Got it when it came out in 1970 when I was 14. Blew my mind and turned me into a hard rock/heavy metal fan for life.

Fun fact: "Warning" is the second cover on the US release. It was originally recorded by Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation. Y'all are hitting some good tunes, and your music appreciation is evident, a very cool vibe indeed. 🤘

First time I heard this was in 1977. Scared me and lured me into the heavier side of music. Been a Metal head since that moment. I like the listening of one side at a time. Fun reaction.

I'm 60 years old and a huge fan of this band ! Their evolution was in my opinion, quite remarkable . I know every lyric, drum fill base line and guitar riff so I guess I'm bias. OK, with that said,,let's do the Paranoid album now.

They often had extended intros and instrumentals that had titles on the albums. It made it look like there were more songs.

Fun fact, i think! I read many years ago that Geezer said that Ozzy sang the wrong words on Warning. Famous for getting his words mixed up or wrong ( due to inebriation and possibly dyslexia), Ozzy sang: "i was born without you baby, but my feelings were a little bit too strong" instead of: " i was WARNED about you baby, but my feelings were a little bit too strong". Great reaction, i'm enjoying your Sabbath journey.

Warning is rad! Ozzy's vocals are impossible for me to not sing along with and try to mimic. I like how he doesn't sing Too high in that one!

Good evening Sir and Madam. It’s a joy to come home after Church and The Stags Head on a Sunday to find your latest reaction. There’s a lot of jazzy swing on here, particularly within “ Warning” ( but also here and there on side 1). I imagine Vertigo ( the record label) insisted on having a “ single” to get some radio airplay as British rock music radio was almost non existent in early 1970. My “ de luxe” CD of this album includes a bit of flute on “ Evil Woman”, which just makes it a bit different but no better tbh. You’re totally right to say it doesn’t fit the album at all. Finally( I’ve been droning on for ever) we should be grateful for two incidents not turning out worse than they actually were: a) Tony Iommi could have lost all of the fingers of his right hand in that factory accident b) he survived a car crash at 18/19 years old which resulted in him walking away from an open top sports car flipping over and landing upside down. There you go. Either of these incidents could have killed Black Sabbath before it even began. Looking forward to “ Paranoid” ( with one of the worst album sleeves ever !). Stay safe guys. Best wishes from England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿.

Evil Woman was not on the American release of Black Sabbath, it was on the UK version and released as a single no one remembers. Everyone remembers Paranoid. Anyhow, the USA release went Wicked World, A Bit of Finger, Sleeping Village, Warning. An underrated side of music for the general public but not by Sabbath fans, Warning is one of the great guitar solos of all time and shocks everyone who hears it for the first time. Now, onto the Paranoid album! Enjoy. 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶

🤘🏼❤️❤️🤘🏼 hey guys, love your reaction to Black Sabbath’s first album!! I first heard of this album on my 11th birthday in 1980😂😂 such a great raw album, recorded in eight hours!! Just a little FYI if you listen to all the drumming throughout the whole album, billboard is actually a jazz drummer! Keep it up. I hope you continue with the Black Sabbath discography! Ozzie made a lot of good music with his band until they kicked him out in 1978.😞❤️

If you do it right and go through the discography in order you'll see how the song topics slowly transition from external themes to very internal ones as the band experiences the rock star life. The whole library tells a story from beginning to end.

Tony Iommi is so underrated as a rock guitar virtuoso. Which is remarkable for a guy who invented his own genre of rock music. Sabbath was often looked down upon by the highbrows of the day back in high school, who found them way too garage or underground, with an over-reliance on fat power chords and campy imagery. I used to enjoy playing Warning for these types, after which they couldn't deny the man's complete command of his guitar. With only two full sized fingers.

Old English Sabbath fan here - Evil Woman is only really notable for Geezer's bass playing and so the US version has become canon over here. Oh, and your background research is excellent. (And its Eye-Owe-Me) Fun Fact: Ozzy was getting over a heavy cold and that is why he never sounded quite like this again.

The drummer Bill Ward is as good as Bonham and Neil Peart. The original 1970 album never had Wicked World as you stated but I don't know exactly when they rereleased The 1st album but it was a great song.
