The album "Paranoid" was supposed to be called "War Pigs" (hence the swordfighter on the cover), but Warner Bros. (distributor for North America) didn't want such a 'provocative' title with the war in Vietnam and the protests in the USA going on, so the title was changed to "Paranoid" without the Sabbs having a say in it. The song "War Pigs" was originally called "Walpurgis" (a witches celebration) but the title as well as some of the lyrics were changed to get rid of Sabbath being called devil worshippers. In the live version Ozzy seems to have 'forgotten' some of the lines, but he's singing some of the original lyrics.

Damn straight good buddy... I wasn't born till 1973, but I'll say this, as a little kid in the late 1970s an early 1980s I was scared to death of ozzy, but then I became the age of reason... DAMNIT I LOVE BLACK SABBATH... MY GOODNESS... You know what's a shame?? How Rock has died an that was in 1996... As far as mainstream goes, Alice n chains was the last great band... Hell even Gene Simmons said rock died in 90s, he didn't mention alice n chains, but overall yes his right... When white kids took off with rap freaking music, rock n roll had no chance in coming back to life... when rap came out heavy in the late 80s, I recall myself saying, this rap will not last 5 or 10 yrs the most, WRONG... How wrong I was... I thought white kids would have more sense, but I'm embarrassed that they never took on to rock n roll or heavy metal... I'm just stating a fact, call me racist because I don't give a rats ass.. But it doesn't make me racist anyway because I didn't like the beastie boys.. I can say the same thing about blacks not liking rock n roll or heavy metal.. They don't like white music period so what does that say about them... but anyhoot, thank goodness for ROCK N ROLL AND HEAVY METAL...

Nice! Dev is right Black Sabbath Week! Love that cross! Momma's coming home!! Mike where is your gold chains, tattoos and leather get with it my man! Loving 5 minute "getting to know you" chatter. "Politicians hide themselves away they only started the war why should they go out to fight they leave that role to the poor, yeah". War, war never changes. "Wait till their judgement day comes, yeah". Dev is totally feeling this work of art! YES. War Pigs is a legendary song!! 8 minutes of glory. Ok Thank You I will have some Cake! Not Bad, Mike. Bill Ward on those drums is just golden! Ozzy is singing an alternate lyrical version of this song. I believe that is why this version was controversial, not sure though. Great Video Peeps!!

This is the very first Sabbath album I ever heard . The next door neighbour moved out and left all the records from the small apartment in the basement. what an incredible and fortuitous find for me as a aspiring pre-teen guitar play I had never heard anything like 'Sabbath's melancholy mixture of macabrery. sorry couldn't esist period it's almost Halloween Halloween you know. What is truly cool is that like with any great work of art this album continues to give me more and more small treasures as my ear gets more and more sophisticated period I think it is the same with good literature, and other art forms in the work continues to grow with the viewer or in this case listeners experience through the years period interesting to me after all these years and a thousand lessons is that I still find interesting things and smite small textures comma little bits in the arrangements that are surprisingly complicated and really only work with this three guys as the ultimate rhythm seection. 1:51 section Sabbath's pulse head heavy grown to it but it was unique to Sabbath

A forever relevant song and the best anti war song ever for me. They just had 'it' right away, first song, first album and then they follow up with their 2nd album with this song leading it off. Their first 6 albums are like that, classic banger of a tune right away that sets up the rest of their classic tunes . The greatest metal band for sure and in my top 10 bands, no matter the rock genre. Good listening for sure, if you are having a crummy day, just put some Black Sabbath on and your mood Instantly changes. Enjoy. 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶

This was originally called Walpurgis Day about a satanic feast, but the record company would have no part of it. So they changed it into an anti war song. That's why Ozzy sings different lyrics on the live version, he was combining the two songs.

@anthonyv6962
@anthonyv6962 Жыл бұрын
Walpurgis Day dates back to May 1 of the year 870, the feast commemorates the canonization of Saint Walpurga. Saint Walpurga was hailed by the Christians for battling pest, rabies, and whooping cough, as well as against witchcraft. Christians prayed to God through the intercession of Saint Walpurga in order to protect themselves from witchcraft. Traditionally it has little to do with a satanic feast with the exception of Anton LaVey author of The Satanic Bible (1966). Some pagan or occult groups might celebrate the same day however it celebrated all over Europe and Scandinavia with out much attention given to Satan. All sky-daddy gibberish is make-believe anyway.

Music by the creative genius lead guitarist Tony Iommi (eye-OWE-me) who invented metal; lyrics by the greatest bassist ever, Geezer (Terry Butler); who were the greatest songwriting team ever; awesome drums by Bill Ward, and great vocals by Ozzy (John) Osbourne. I hate the 1970 live version due to messed up lyrics and you virtually don't see the bass player at all.
@vicprovost2561

Everyone always talks about Ozzy and rightfully so BUT Tony Iommi WAS Black Sabbath, the only member on every single Sabbath album, Geezer was on most but not all of them. The sound of his guitar was as revolutionary as Hendrix, Page or Van Halen to all heavy music from 1970 onward, he deserves all the respect in the world.

Listen to this sing by Black Sabbath, BUT THE DIO YEARS. Ronnie James Dio at vocals is FAR SUPERIOR. Makes it a far BETTER song. Check out the difference when the vocal GOAT adds all the emotion to the song as opposed to the drunken friend who pretended to be a singer for the band for the first 10 years.
