The injections are nice for onlookers because of the paralytic that stops the 'victim' from fighting back, but they're not an anesthetic, so they're awake, aware, and paralysed while they slowly die of a concoction described as feeling like "liquid fire".

I jumped and I forgot that I took the floating thing off and I was 6 feet under water. I was under there for 40 seconds but my brother noticed me and took me back up to surface. I got chlorine poisoning after and I was throwing up stomach acid for 2 weeks. But when you are under water it hurts reallly bad. For me, my throat felt like it was on fire. Drowning is one of the worst ways to go.

One way I've always thought was one of the worst way to die, is to have heated gold poured into your mouth. Which was the punishment to some ppl here in Sweden back in the days that was caught creating money on their own. It's easy to condemn a botched execution, but what about how traumatic it might've been for the executioners in those days, who usually inherited the job from their fathers? I'm sure most headsmen had some form of PTSD from the very nature of their work, and additionally why do you think they wore hoods? Not that I'd volunteer for it, but I'm not sure I agree that decapitation is one of the worst ways to die. I've read that the trauma to the spinal chord when the blade hits causes you to immediately black out, so even though your head is technically alive for a few seconds you're not conscious.

A few heads do remain conscious for up to a minute after being guillotined and are even able to react to external stimuli: The farthest the cut is from the brain, the most the spine is preserved undamaged, the quickest the cut is made and the cleanest the cut is made, the most likely it will be. We know this because there are lots of anecdotal reports but also because EEG readings in beheaded lab mice indicate they can remain conscious for up to almost a full minute and they're mammals and are used for their similarity to humans so we could argue these findings confirm the already-existing and abundant anecdotal evidence.

We all know that certain extremists love their beheading and there are many, many videos available on some platforms. I've definitely seen at least one that shows the unfortunate souls eyes very, very briefly looking left then right. I don't know if this is an involuntary action or not but given the swiftness of proper decapitation I kind of feel like those heads - at least for a second - can see.
