I’ve not seen the Northern Lights, but I have seen the Southern Lights. The first time I saw them I was skiing in Antarctica when the horizon started glowing…it looked like city light at first. Then the lights climbed up into the sky and danced around going from white to green and blue. It was truly magnificent. Such a visual feast!

Never clicked so fast on a video after I've seen the miniature ! I'm in love with your take on a northern lights theme ! It's absolutely stunning ! I've never seen any aurorea borealis, we don't have any in France nowadays (it seems that our scottish and irish friends are able to see some), and, in addition, the luminous pollution in cities is really bad here so even if we had a little green light somewhere, we probably wouldn't be able to see it. But I'm dreaming to see them one day, It's something that fascinate me from childhood when I've read Philip Pullman's novels, especially Northern Lights, precisely. It's still one of my favorite novels now ^^ Also, you improved so much the last year in your painting technique. I'm really impressed !

I've lived the last 4 years in northern Norway, norhtern lights were a weekly occurence there, although the light show differs in strength quite a lot from day to day. But they never get any less beautiful, no matter how many times you see them.

A few things about acrylics - they layer so so well and maintain their opacity which is awesome. They work on practically any surface which is also great. But at the same time, blending acrylics is a dream - I love it so much. I recommend actually working on one painting / section at a time because that way you have more control in terms of wetness and drying time, if you actually wait a while, water will not help you at all with acrylics because they’re plastic based paints And you can layer as many times and as much paint as you want without actually affecting anything

Sooo pretty! I see the northern lights a lot, as I live in Norway, but they never fail to make me feel awe and appreciation for the universe. The way they dance is amazing.

Another gorgeous spread. A true inspiration. I've been fortunate enough to see the Aurora Borealis a few times. Once in Alaska, a couple times outside Bellingham, WA and (this is no joke) north central Kansas. The Alaska ones were shades of green, then in Washington they showed orange and red. The ones in Kansas were very low on the horizon and white.

The most fun I’ve had in recent months is chasing these lights late at night with my awesome partner. We dressed cozy, made London fogs to go, grabbed snacks and went for long drives. Seeing them, and the joy on her face when we finally did see them, was a night to remember. Can’t beat that kind of quality time together.

🌫 I can't tell you how much this touched me with such a wave of nostalgia; this time of year I'd be counting down to school holidays with my Grandparents, and my family would sit out at night and talk about Astronomy & they would teach me about the ancient astronomers, and all about the night sky & it's phenomenons. Those memories are all I have now of my Grandparents, so thank you for telling these wonderful facts, and showing us your beautiful artworks. As a prior student in acrylics, there really was no 'wrong' way of working with them. Working with a wet or dry brush; wet or dry surface, it didn't matter, it could all be corrected, if it didn't work. They are a very forgiving medium. You did an amazing piece, thank you for sharing :) I saw the Lights in Scotland a while ago, they were breathtaking :)

The inexpensive acrylic paint has white mixed in. That's what has made your black sky look Grey. For glazing, use artists acrylics with pure pigment. Don't add white to it and it should do what you are looking for. From your friendly neighborhood art teacher 😁

gorgeous choice of colour for the lights! I live in the GTA but wasn't able to go out when the Northern Lights were visible a couple weeks back T_T I've used acrylic a lot in the past and have watered it down, but the glazing does create a much stronger effect than watercolour would. My tip is the smoother the layers the better because once there's texture it's harder to work on top of to get a smoother shape/line
@PlantBasedBride3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! Oo yeah, I think that would help. My watercolour paper has a bit of texture to it which wasn't ideal!

15:00 I use a tombow dual brush marker to mark the weekend days and the wednesdays so its easier to follow. I too prefer the box overview of the month and find those marks to help when I use the lines in my proud about trackers or things I write down in a line style rather than the boxes. Also make my habit tracker that way with boxes and then add a colour to the wednesday and weekend days.

In Scottish Gaelic we call the Northern Lights Na Fir-chlis (meaning 'Nimble Folk') and are among the ancestors who weren't allowed to become angels when Christianity came to Scotland so they fell back to earth. those who were dashed on the rocks became echoes, those who landed in the churning sea became selkie folk (seal-like fairies), and those who stayed in the sky became Na Fir-chlis or the Northern Lights. They tend to get riled up by the dancing and music so they start fighting for fun. bloodstones or heliotrope found in the Hebrides are thought to be spots of their blood from their worn feet and wounds.
