I had a 93 D250 4X4 5 speed, extended cab for 20 years. It went to Baja camping many times, Colorado,, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Oregon and everywhere south west. Put 200k on it with many modification that I see you doing. The weakness in those trucks was the open channel frame. Off-roading takes a toll on that frame which was really designed for the light weight low torque V8 gas’s engines. Another complaint is the drum brake rear axle. The axles have to be removed to service the brakes. I had the original front rotors were on the truck when I sold it to my son’s friend. It’s still going strong, I bought a extremely low mileage 2012 with the 6 speed. Another great truck and comfortable as I accumulate years. Trouble is there is not as much that I can do on it other than routine maintenance. I miss the 93 still. Keep up the great videos. RD

Once again, another great video. I also have the HX35 on my 93 D250 with a 5 speed. And I agree with you on the noise, I was gonna straight pipe my truck but the 12hr drive to get it home from my dad's was a long loud drive. And that was with the stock exhaust cruising at 70mph, so the top end of the RPM, and it was loud. So I will also be doing a muffler when I upgrade my exhaust in the future. And once again I will be using your discount like I did on the Hungry diesel fuel pin and 3200 governor spring kit.

Yeah I love this new exhaust. Still sounds really good but the cab is so quiet.

Nice job, several people beat me to the band clamp. I done a 2nd gen and had exhaust leaks start popping up and the band clamps fixed them. I also couldn't get my exhaust tip to stay in place, so I cut the nut and bolt off and band clamped it also. The larger exhaust tips normally will give you deeper sound and a little louder. I have always liked a deep sounding exhaust over a high pitch sound.
@decentgarage4 жыл бұрын
I will definitely be upgrading the clamps.

The only thing I did different was to use stainless band clamps instead of the ones they sent with. That and my muffler has 2 hangers on a regular cab. I don't know if it was factory or not but they were there.

Another nice upgrade ! I have a suggestion. The bracket at the bell housing from the old system. I believe is a good idea to take off and mod it to fit the 4". The fact that the factory put it there was due to the engine vibration and cracking of the pipe at the flange. If you remember the bracket had an isolator rubber bushing in it for noise that was probably toasted. But I think it would be a good idea to reinstall it. 1. the exhaust is bigger and heavier than the old system. Just sayin. "Food for thought". The bean counters at the factory wouldn't spend a plug nickle more than they had to when building these trucks new. It was there to avoid warranty issues. Guess I have to get one now. Now that you showed how easy it was :)

So they now sell a ss exhaust for the first st gens. 7 or 8 years ago I took my stacks off and put the diamond eye aluminized 4 inch exhaust on. Now it’s all rotted out. Tail pipe rotted off two years ago and now the down pipe has a hole in it. Hope the ss one is better. Good video.

Do you think the tips change the exhaust tone any?
@ronsre-creations52894 жыл бұрын
I sold cars for 25 years and had tons of exhaust done. If it has a rolled lip it will be a different sound from a slashed tip to a straight cut. All tips give a slightly diff sound. ;)
@decentgarage4 жыл бұрын
Exhaust sound is highly dependent on the size pipe of the exhaust and then the tip actually plays a huge role in the sounds. Not just the size of the tip but whether it is rolled or straight.

I understand my comment is about a year after your video, but I found your channel and love all things 1st gen Cummins. My concern is that Diamond shipped you a nice stainless steel system, but with the same junk mild carbon U-clamps and nuts that will rust out in no time. Additionally, they did not provide you a heat shield for the down pipe or instructions to swap the old heat shield and secure with hose clamps. Your HVAC box will get too hot and melt without the heat shield in place. Back to the U- bolt clamps, they look bad and distorts the piping. They should have sent you stainless steel band clamps. I'll ask you to update us in a future video of how those U-bolt clamps look after a winter season of use. I'm looking to update my 3rd gen Cummins Mega Cab from the current 4 inch stainless steel system to 5 inch stainless steel, including all stainless band clamps, hangers and fasteners. Keep the videos coming! Loo
@decentgarage3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment man! Yeah I'm not a huge fan of the u clamps they sent but they have worked fine. I've been meaning to switch them out to band clamps but just haven't gotten around to it. There has been no rusting issues with these u clamps though. I've taken the exhaust completely out and back in 3 times in the past 3 months. Everything comes off nicely. Also I've had no issues with the down pipe and heater box.
@jakeeverich92234 жыл бұрын
Rig is coming along great! Like others have said, it’s a good idea to switch to stainless band exhaust clamps... the supplied guillotine clamps are junk, and you’ll find that they’ll create gaps in the sealing joints. Also - as another comment referenced, it’s a good idea to come up with some sort of support where the transmission isolator / downpipe was. It was there for a reason. Otherwise, that’s a significant amount of weight and vibration on your turbo / manifold. I even went the extra mile and added a couple more isolator clamps to the system, got rid of the nuisance vibrations.

I have a 92 d250 bought from Nevada so no rust, original exhaust in great shape but think i will get the 4" with straight muffler to get some deeper exhaust note. I want to know from you or others, my stock exhaust, where it routes over top of rear axle, is smashed from top side, so exhaust is only about 2/3 of the 3" diamater. Truck is in great shape so i couldn't imagine how this happened. Did they come like this from factory? Anyone know?

@@decentgarage Thanks. I've been trying to justify the purchase. Didn't know if the 3" outlet on the turbo would see a boost in power going to the 4" pipe. Figured as much on the egt's. @@decentgarage I have a early 91. Brother bought it in 97, in Lubbock TX the day after he graduated from Texas Tech. 98k on odometer. 3rd owner. Drove it about a yr. Did nothing more than a set of tires and wheel bearings. Started a family and couldn't afford to keep it. Sold it to dad in 98. He drove it until 2010. Sold it to me for 1k when he retired from farming, and i took over the operation. Now my father did nothing more than the bare minimum to keep it rolling from point A to B. Needless to say it needed a lot of money thrown at it. Current day. The a/c has been rebuilt numerous times from top to bottom. Along with everything that surrounds the engine. I replaced the tiny radiator with aftermarket aluminum 3 core. Installing a aftermarket intercooler at the same time. As it came from the factory without one. Injector pump has been rebuilt. Factory turbo. New injectors. It ran better when the leaking and much wore Injector pump was rebuilt. But last couple years it just didn't have much power. Was recently offered a BD fuel pin and 3200 governor spring. I figured what could it hurt? Holy shit it's alive!!! Don't know how fast a scalded ass Ap can run, but i 'm pretty sure i could beat him.... 3.54's with 5 speed getrag. 33-12.50's. I can run with traffic in 4th. Even 5th at low rpm's just goes.
