First there's Crusher, which I remember being first hard map in Doom 2, then Dead Simple which not only was a completely new type of level, but also first time you meet Mancubus, Arachnotron and Megasphere and the top it off with Tricks and Traps. Such great memories of playing them first time.

As a kid it was the best map i could get to without cheating, the cyberdemon room was always the troublecauser😂

The main message of this level is "The kiddie gloves are off now" - you encounter your first Cyberdemon and, more importantly, Pain Elementals here. Because nothing can make the game funnier like some extra Lost Souls ;) But you'll also get your first (legit) BFG 9K, an entire stash of backpacks (always wondered about this), and some invulns. So it's not that bad. Just don't fall for any tricks. Or traps.

Isn't it also the first level in Doom 2 that hands out Skull Keys rather than keycards? Because it always slipped my mind and I always thought it was Tenements that started going from keycards to skulls...

I love how the central room becomes a mosh pit by the end. This map is probably *almost* impossible without at least 1 invincibility on nightmare.

I love these Nightmare playthroughs because we kind of get to see Decino attempting to 100% speedrun these maps. You’re pretty much forced to speedrun the maps because of the constantly respawning enemies. That’s certainly evident at the end of this map. That demon party in the center was wild haha.

The more I watch through your Nightmare run the more it feels like this is how Doom is "supposed" to feel. You versus the literal endless hordes of Hell; it's a suicide mission, but you being enough of a badass to pull through is the only hope Earth's got. I quite like it.

0:25 Man, that shotgunner only had ONE job haha For fun, I made a strategy to complete this map on NM + pacifist + no damage 1- Get into the Cyberdemon room and wait a bit for him to disappear, grab invul and squeeze through to get yellow key 2- Yellow key room, get the red key and squeeze through to re-grab invul before it runs out 3- Go to the exit room and make sure to step aside to avoid being blocked by the Pinky 4 - Profit

That turned into an absolute mess by the end, with the insane number of turbocharged pinkies sprinting free everywhere. In other words, it's very entertaining! I've never seen the Cyber die so quickly, either.

Using the first invulnerability wisely is a trick I learned a long time ago, albeit through trial and error. Though getting the Cyberdemon to fight the Barons is also gratifying.

When I played Doom with my dad, this map was impossible to beat, because the platforming at the end. We didn't know about idclip, and internet wasn't massive in this time (~1995) so we were stuck for years in this level

Camaraderie is a huge issue with these monsters. They'll kill each other over the slightest provocation, but for some reason think it's important to kill you. I wonder what the hell is going on. What are the Barons and Cyberdemon doing in that room?

Tricks and traps the first level which I wasn't bothered about getting all the kills and secrets I just wanted to get out the level the bfg was always a nice treat but I never bothered with the room with the pain elementals and you know what it's not so much the level itself the combat is okay the level design is nothing special for me personally the reason I didn't like this level is simply getting to the exit the amount of times which I have lost count that I messed up running across those platforms and having to start the level again my god it drove me crazy is the feeling I had lol but yeah one good thing did come from it though which was I always remembered going forward to save at the start of each level so that was good. Anyway enough of my ranting though Last thing even to this day although my skill is far far better than it was back then that run to the exit still gets me here and there anyway as always Cheers for upload decino

I was playing this through on HMP recently and I let the Cyberdemon infight whilst I plundered the room[s] of pinkies. Upon retrieving the unholy BFG, I turned the corner, only to find the Cyberdemon meandering around in the first pinky room, trying to hunt me down!! Not cool, Mister, not cool.

I played Tricks and traps for the first time one or two days ago. Two times actually because I died in a later level and didn't save the game. After I cleared the pinkies, I pressed the switches to open the secret pathway but the left switch didn't stay activated. Is that a bug or did I do something wrong?

The map is not really hard to be honest, considering the couple invul spheres but, the real killer is definitely the exit trap. I still remember the first time that I died there on the PSX version of Doom 2. Slow, painful and frustrating death...

Ahhh map 8 Tricks and Traps one of my doom 2 maps this map believe it or not I religiously play pistol start all the time cuz is fun and I Love it and yes I did play this map occasionally on nightmare difficulty and believe it or not I actually found it more enjoyable than that in Ultraviolence I'm not kidding. Definitely a fun map on nightmare without a doubt :-)

You could've used the teleporter in the caco room that appears after you step on the first platform past the red door. That way you can avoid all that pesky platforming. Though it might not be worth it since you'd have to go to the main room again with all the enemies there.
