He's simply brilliant. I've come to think that the statement you made is not a conscious effort on his part. I believe it is an innate ability. The music flows from his soul and directly through his fingers. An unobstructed pathway. And in that, he allows us to be privy to that most personal part of himself.....the emotion. If he only performed in this fashion on occasion, I wouldn't say that. But he never fails to move me, as I know he does many others or give me the ability to get lost in his music. And one of the best parts of all of this is that he is so "Humble" with respects to the true talent he possesses. And for many years, it's in his music that I find my soft place to fall when I feel the need to do so. For me, his music is warm, welcoming arms. Now, should I tell you how I REALLY feel about this man.....lol!

As a guitarist, vocalist, writer and band frontman, Knopfler takes a backseat to no one. Neil Young is up there in all areas, but he does not have the technical skill of Knopfler on guitar (that's not to say Neil is not as "expressive" or even more prolific). Both continue to be creating new and GREAT music into their 70's....wondrous. Still, as an ensemble, I will take Mark and his bandmates any day....right up there with Bruce and the E-Street band, the Stones, The Who, any of them, in their primes....

I'm 75 now, and can honestly say after your comment, Mr Knopfler and his Dire Straits right up until now on his own with new band mates, are the best that will ever be. The mans a GENIOUS I've realised that, I was there with all the other great groups and bands in the 70's and 80's but no one can match Mr Knopfler and his creativity. Long may he reign.....

I simply love this man for his talent, intelligence, creativity and sheer musical genius. Over the decades, he has sacrificed a great deal of his life that could have been spent with his family and friends, so that he could share his music with us. He could have retired on top with "Dire Straits" but chose to continue sharing his music with his fans around the world. In doing so, he brought some of the most beautiful sound into our lives. This probably sounds corny to most people, but I truly believe music is a powerful thing that enhances and enrichens our lives, can touch our emotions, heals the soul and it has the amazing ability to be the caretaker of our most treasured memories. How does one thank someone for giving us such a gift?

Mark Knopfler is the definition of true brilliance. From the composition of his music to the performance. He makes everything he plays, seem effortless, all the while showing his passion, emotion and love of the music. He can play a song hundreds of times and yet when one watches and listens to him, you would think it was the first time he ever played that song. Everyone up on that stage during this performance shows how it should be done. They have set the bar extremely high for those following in their footsteps.

I THINK YOUR FIRST SENTENCE SHOULD BE PREFACED WITH IMHO. IMHO Mark’s a genius & all round magical musician. He’s an inimitable, legendary guitarist, whose musical skills include prolific songwriting with unique storytelling lyrics, & arrangements. His versatility in giving a voice to the protagonist in the song lends it gravitas, humour, affinity & emotion. Those who arrogantly dismiss any of the latter attributes, are being very naive about how the whole composition actually becomes so awesome when performed Live, and are definitely not speaking on behalf of the majority of forever DS or MK Solo fans. I❤MK

Can anyone tell me how good this guy is, I've spent a life time listening to live music, what makes him (MK) so good? I keep coming back time and time again to listen to these masterpieces. Is it the melody, lyrics or the guitar playing, or all three?

+Peter West In fairness, the man is a great songwriter, but honestly, there's bloody few alive that can play a guitar like he can. I mean, the man's gift is damn near legendary. I don't know enough about music to know what he does differently from everyone else, but I don't know many guitarists that can play the way he does. It's true artistry.

+Peter West It's the man. He has not forgotten why he got into music in the first place. He has a genuine love and passion for it. And you have to remember, he is the one responsible for the melody, lyrics and his brilliant talent on the guitar. It is effortless to him. I have never seen someone so at ease in front of an audience. So If you ask me, It's the man that keeps drawing me back. The very humble one, who I believe doesn't even realize the incredible beauty he creates or how much adoration and respect his fans have for him. Wouldn't you love to spend 10 or 15 minutes inside his head? I sometimes wonder what goes through the mind of a genius. I know. It's rather "off the wall", but I'm not to proud to admit it:) I do want to say that every person up on that stage deserves equal respect. They simply "Shined" during this performance. It was magnificent!
