My only tiny problems with this movie were plot points where it differed from the book. The first one was how the Meg got to the surface. In the book, it isn't a geyser caused by a sub explosion. They manage to capture the Meg (or rather, what they THINK is the Meg), but it turns out to be a male. A much larger FEMALE then attacks the male and kills it as the net holding the male is carrying it to the surface. As this is happening, her mate's warm blood is shielding her from the colder temperatures of the water around her. Second problem is Angel, the female Meg's daughter. We see her appear to swim out of her mother's mouth as she dies (I'm convinced that that shark swimming out of the Meg's mouth at the end IS Angel), but in the book, she is correctly born along with siblings, several of which their mother kills because she sees them as too weak to survive on their own in the wild.
@harveywalton6186 жыл бұрын

Actually the female Meg kills only the runt of the litter. Others were victims of cannibalism in utero. The surviving male fell victim to a pod of killer whales.

Considering how sharks' teeth are attached, when it bit the glass like that they should all have been left embedded in the glass. Then it would have spent most of the rest of the movie gumming people to death while it's backup teeth took time to rotate into place.

Does a shark that big really need teeth to eat people anyway? Yeah sure it looks scary but it's probably swallowing them whole most of the time anyway.

Fun fact: One commonly held belief among paleontologists about how the Megalodon went extinct is because they were out-competed by smaller, faster sharks. The way the smaller sharks swarmed around and fed on the meg's corpse is a subtle little nod to that theory, I think.

2:30 you can actually see the first initial meg to the right as the sub's explosion rips it apart. As for where this one came from, we find out in one of the later books that Jonas wasn't the first to actually discover the megs. There was another fellow that was using a large underwater probe to try and bait the megs up. So basically the meg in the opening came up in one of the earlier blooms from when the probe broke through the barrier.

Why would the Meg react to whalesong? Megs evolved long before the great whales, and being trapped below a chemical layer (don't even get me started on THAT) would mean these megs wouldn't know what a whale sounds like.

The one thing I remember about this movie is that, beside having a higher strength strangle hold on it by way of CCP approval being more of a necessity than other films, the ads on TV heavily featured Bobby Darin's "Somewhere Beyond the Sea." Which I find strange given how the song's about getting back to the loving arms of the singer's lady. It's kind of like having a Slasher film with the killer being a stalker of the protagonist have "We'll Meet Again" by Arthur Young and Vera Lynn.

Can i just say, this is the first monster shark movie where the shark behaves like an actual fucking shark? We HAVE to give them props for that!

This is part of the Statham Cinematic Universe in which he plays the same emotionless character in every movie. - The Chinese investors also told the director not to waste money. But yeah, there are faaaar worse sea-monster movies.

Decker I lover watching your reviews. It like watching a movie with a good friend who loves movies as much as I do and is in some cases more entertaining than the movie itself. I've been hoping to see you review this movie for awhile now and you did not disappoint. You are the internet personality with the best hair! Rock on man!
