Fun fact: Cats whiskers can detect microchanges in air density. This was discovered more than 5 years after Alien. That means cats are basically living motion detectors from the Weyland-Yutani corporation!

Not with the same degree of sensitivity. Cats can do it so well that they can sense movement in an adjacent room. Human arm hair can only sense direct pressure on them, i.e. wind.

So it would have made more sense for Ripley to wear Jones as a hat while trying to escape the Nostromo; whenever Jones dug his claws into her scalp and growled and hissed she would know to back away slowly and choose another path.

The Blu-ray actually looks better than the version originally released in theaters because they went back and fixed some of the special effects. One specifically that I noticed was that in the original version you could clearly see where the set became a mat painting and on the Blu-ray it has been completely fixed. I know that the comic books and novels don't really count, but they did explain the differences in the xenomorphs from "Alien" to Aliens." The xenomorph in "Alien" was a worker drone and the xenomorphs in "Aliens" were warrior class drones.

True the one in Alien is a 9 ft tall drone xenomorph but it isn't a class system it's a hive system and Big Chap( the xenomorph from Alien) is stronger than the warriors because of the host. Stronger host stronger xenomorph. Ex: Kane was second in command on the Nostromo and had to have been pretty strong so the xenomorph that he was tge host to would be much stronger when the warriors from Aliens and AvP:R had people who weren't use to doing lots of hard work like Kane because he and the rest of the crew of the Nostromo had to load 20,000,000 tons of mineral ore onto the Nostromo and take off with it.

Apparently, the alien tore open Lambert's head then tried to drag her through the vent, but she wouldn't fit, so it left her hanging there. Fun fact: the shot of the tail near Lambert's leg is actually a cut shot from Brett's death, where the alien was supposed to pull Brett over to it, then bite him.
@princeendymion9044
@princeendymion9044 Ай бұрын
That was the intended version of her death, but Ridley ran out of time and money to film most of the ideas for it. They came up with the idea to use what you see in the movie as a way of insinuating something far more sexual and violating to scare the living hell out of the audience now that Ripley is the last one alive and is also a woman.
@AzayBae
@AzayBae 8 жыл бұрын
Never noticed that tail fuck part. I jus thought she got stabbed but after you pointed out the wardrobe change, sound of it and the theory I'm done. The OG alien is scariest because even the filmmakers weren't 100% on how the alien works. It's scary as hell. Now I can expect how they act but back then they were pushing the uncomfortable sex allusions to the max. Love it.

So, for people who laugh at how the computers in the distant future look... I think of it this way: Companies don't update their tech regularly because they would rather spend the money elsewhere. So the workers are always stuck with failing or outdated technology. On top of that, only the bare minimum tech would be necessary for certain jobs, as Apollo 11/13 were done with computers less advanced than current cell phones. So, in this film, they are meant to do a big job for a shifty corporation who thinks little of its employees.

The way Lambert and Parker died always freaked me out. I was 4 when I watched Alien and hearing that noise Lambert made gave me nightmares for years. LEGO GOJI Davidson Alien was the first ever movie I saw that I can remember. To be honest Alien never scared me it awed me. When I first saw the jockey in the ship I was truly amazed and always wondered what it was, I thought it was some space biologist collecting strange things in the galaxy. It was the strangeness I found scary if anything. No horror movie (I personally think Alien is a thriller) has ever matched Alien in pure emotion and production. First seeing the grown Xenomorph I thought it was so surreal and strange more than scary, something beyond comprehension. My parents were cool with me watching movies like Robocop, Terminator, Alien I knew that were made by people and never real.

I was always really resistant agains scaryness. But after I saw the movie"quarantine" alone with 9 years on night.. It was over for 2 years. The first movie I had to turn off before ending cause it was to scary. But when i was 11 I wactehd such movies again. With 12 I first watched "saw". Not scary, but the splatter was so disturbing, so I stopped again with gore movies and horror. Than, when i got 14, I came into it AGAIN and began playing. Playing Outlast, Dead Space, Alien Isolation and Five Nights at Freddy's, Silent Hills P.T. Ok msot say FNAF is not scary but the only games that scared my were FNAF and Silent Hills P.T. The others were scary but not like the 2 mentioned. P.T. and FNAF were like "I don't wanna play this shit anymore ;_;" But it was so fascinating. (Yeah i'm 14) Now I even look documentary film and such things and read about fear. I just don't understnad fear. Why do we fear when we are not in trouble? But yeah anyways. Don't think that anyone even read this here but ok xD Today I'm going to watch Alien my first time. Let's see^^

Part of the whole idea of the cat being left unharmed was Ridley's brief thought of suggesting that maybe Charlie did something to the cat; impregnatory things, perhaps? I never personally considered that, but I do like how Charlie is visible in among the pipes as Ripley's POV sees her rapid entrance into the Narcissus escape Craft.

Also you should play Alien Isolation. It's like experiencing the movie... plus the dlc it comes with lets you play as three of the characters from the movie including Ripley added on to the normal game where you play as Ripley's daughter, Amanda.

IIRC, it wasn't so much that they knew the alien was there, but that this was a passive standing order that was embedded *deep* in the company's code - if you come across an alien lifeform, all other considerations are secondary when it comes to *securing* said lifeform.

How come the Nostromo only has one shuttle? How come Dallas never saw the secret info on his computer that Ripley looked up lickey split?? Wouldn't any of Ash's medical scanners have detected the alien growing in Kane? Or did Ash simply not reveal this fact to the crew just to watch what would happen?

"ship-cats" are important for good-luck on ships , even past other "mascots" , as they used to kill rats on ships and the smell of a cat, will keep vermin off ships. The "ship-cat' Jones as a character is talked about more in Alan Dean Foster's book 'Alien"- a really good read. It all lends toward's Ripley wanting to save Jone's not just becuase Ripley is definitely is a "cat-lady" I kinda wish Veronica Cartright could have done the Ripley character.

Fun fact about the chesterburster scene. They did not tell the girl with the super short hair (forgot her name). That they were gonna do that (basically have the guy convulse on the table and have the Chesterburster (birth) in such a way. So when it happened and blood was sprayed everywhere. She ligetimely freaked out. That's why her reaction felt so real. She was genuinely surprised and scared.

What I like to believe is that this Xenomorph is a Hive Mother. One whom egg morphs victims for the specific reason that the eggs will be discovered so the organisms can spread like wildfire. I think this one used up so much energy to make the eggs that it basically starved itself trying to make a Trojan Horse.

The reason the xeno is lethargic is because is pinned Dallas to the wall(deleted scene) and was going into a state of hibernation to protect the potential queen that, as far as it knows, could be ready to hatch in the future. It doesn't know facehuggers aren't in proximity to complete the process. It is just performing its biological function.

Come to think of it, Charlie’s sluggishness can retroactively be explained by the absence of a queen. It’s not wholly consistent, but in extended canon, unlike eusocial insects, xenomorph queens have been shown to possess control over their hive and that the death of a queen without an immediate replacement has left hives disoriented and vulnerable. This control is even shown to a degree in Aliens when the queen has the warriors back down when Ripley threatens her eggs. It’s a bit of a stretch, but even the runner had a queen present in Alien 3.

To explain the ability to get from one star system to another at apparently 5 times the speed of light- Despite the use of cryogenic pods and long journeys, the Nostromo and many starship drives in the alien universe are equipped with faster than light engines, referred to as hyperdrives. It isn’t mentioned for the Nostromo often but we know for a fact that the Sulaco is equipped with one. I read up and found that the Nostromo is equipped with a Weyland-Yutani T7A NLS supralight drive (the Sulaco using a Romberg-Rockwell Cygnus 5). The hyperdrives in aliens, or “tachyon shunt” drives, if I am not mistaken, essentially use their standard engines combined with a burst of tachyon emission. Tachyons are particles that only exist in a superluminal state and their velocity therefore is past lightspeed at all times. Essentially the drives emit a burst of tachyon exhaust, shunting itself past the light barrier. If they slow down at any point they immediately end the jump, as tachyons basically cease to exist if slowed to lightspeed or lower. The cryo pods are ever present because 1. Preservation of supplies (theyll last longer if not having to be used or consumed by the crew every day) 2. Quicker seeming trips (because nobody wants to spend 10 months awake on a ship if they don’t have to) 3. (I’m not too sure about this one) bearing the brunt of reverse time dilation effects- during near lightspeed travel, time relative to the traveler is different to those outside. Time essentially passes different. If you’ve seen interstellar you know what I’m talking about. You experience a couple hours while the observers experience weeks. Weeks turn to months or years, you know. Yeah, once you hit FTL by tachyon shunt, this effect is *reversed.* you travel fast to the observers, but you experience much longer than the observers. To combat this, the crew is placed in stasis.

Gravity Drive, Decker - Space Ships above tiny EEVs have Gravity Drives that allows them to travel at past light speed, and since such travel tends to cause mental instability in mammals that are awake during the FTL-travel time, they get put into the Freezerinos as Bret calls them, leading to a nice functional reason to how space travel can be functional for exo-planet colonization. You get frozen for days to months of time, depending on the vessel you're on and how many parsecs you need to travel - plus travel time to get to the edge of the solar system you're inside before the FTL jump can happen.

10:08 relativistic effects are the best explanation here, really. They can accelerate steadily up to a fraction of the speed of light so that a journey of many years could be covered in a perceived time frame of a few months. Traveling at 99% light speed could cover thousands of light years in a perceived time of minutes. So it's safe to assume that their journey actually does take years but calls into question how much time Ripley ever had with her daughter. Did she leave her as a toddler and miss her 11th birthday? Or do they actually have some FTL? It's still a mystery.

I don't think that the company knew that there was aliens there. I think that in this universe they had encountered aliens or had seen evidence of their existence and created a clause in the programming of the ship, if anything alien is detected, capture and return, it is more valuable than the crew or ore they may carry.
