DECLUTTERING MY CLOSET AS A NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION • DOUTZEN DIARIES

Happy New Year and happy new closet!
My biggest resolution for the new year was to declutter my closet. I am embarrassed to say I had no idea anymore what was in there and I had just started wearing whatever fell out first. When you declutter you not only create space in your home, but also in your mind. Finally I can see clearly what I have and more important: respect what I have!

Even though Doutzen is a well-known model and actress, she's very down to earth. She is someone you can actually have a conversation with about life (family, work, one's self, etc.) You can feel it and see it that her videos are not staged but REAL from REAL PEOPLE. "In general we buy things to fill up a void" - So true! Thanks for sharing this New Year's resolution with us. I really enjoyed watching this! I've been using the Konmari method for roughly five years (going through an annual cleaning every spring/summer), but I've noticed that none of my cleanings have been as dramatic as my first. I really learned to apply the Konmari method to my life and lifestyle and make sure to only buy things when necessary or when they spark joy, which has given me so much headspace. Really recommend this for anyone who hasn't tried it yet! We often own more stuff than we think :)

@@MultiCombo1 Not at all! My sister says that too actually, but it doesn't work for me since I have a terrible memory hahaha. But it's totally a valid way of thinking! Especially when you buy things you already have or already have good substitutes for. My parents do this a lot too. The amount of kitchen appliances they have bought twice or even three times. It's crazy.

I'm watching this as laughing so hard 🤣 my husband loves 💕to declutter....but all the time!!! I mean I may be away for a few days and I come home to an empty pantry - no food - he's given it all away, the fridges are empty too, he just gives away all his wardrobe and doesn't care if he has 2 t-shirts. Umm, he's done that with my clothes too...I sometimes remember things he's given away that I forgot all about 😳😩 but you are right; its a luxury problem to be able to get rid of our good clothes and ensure that those who don't have anything to wear it. After 20 years I am now used to not being attached to clothes or items anymore, no matter how expensive because someone else really appreciates it more than I did. I actually love old second-hand clothes, and my mum started this when she bought a dress made in 1960. I now have a few old items that I enjoy wearing. Country towns have the best second-hand clothing. and OMG 😮 Sunnery!!! I've never owned that many shoes in my entire life 😂🤣 but just think how many people you made happy that they've got awesome shoes to wear 👍✌🏻

I love that she had compassion to acknowledge the elephant in the room. That many people would wish to have clothing. It’s really not a problem at all , it is in a sense a desire to organise and I honestly think it’s best to buy less and be extremely mindful when purchasing clothing. Only buy what you love and you’ll never need to create waste.

Hoi Doutzen, hier nog even een kleine tip. Hang aan je hangers kaartjes, draag je het kleding stuk trek het kaartje eraf. Zo zie je aan het einde van het jaar heel makkelijk wat je wel en niet gedragen hebt. Grt Carolien

I periodically clean my closet and gift what I don’t want or wear anymore to people who is in need: I usually donate it to churchs so that they can help people who go there to find things they cannot afford. After I saw this video, I decided that my 2020 resolution is to not buy new clothes/shoes/bags/make up since I have to use and finish what I already have!
