I don't have much to declutter because I don't buy a lot but if I did have nice products like you, I would keep them until they are gone. Then you don't have to buy anything for a while. Unless it's like mascara or foundation but powders last quite a while.

Not sure if you or anyone will read this. I was just watching various minimal makeup collection videos, found yours, and wanted to encourage you to keep going. Take it from someone who has been in that same place of struggling with purchasing habits, and grinding to pay off those loans. The freedom of getting rid of that monthly ball and chain is so worth saying no to the 95% of things you won't even remember you said no to spending your money on. I promise. Your future self will not regret it and will be so grateful to your current self for delaying gratification to be done with it. It's not a mainstream thing to accomplish... yet. But the more of us that finish that goal, the more it will be normalized for others to persevere in hope and confidence that they'll get that freedom back too.

Some tips I use to curb my spending are... - buy everything in cash as then you have to hand over more items and you can physically see what you have spent and have left - have money go into a savings account the same day you are paid so that you automatically have less to splurge on impulse buys - walk home from the shops or park further away. You wont want to carry lots of stuff back so will buy a lot less - make yourself too busy to shop, any time you feel the urge to splurge make other plans you will enjoy - watch videos/look into the environment more and it may scare you out of buying (atleast for a few days lol) I hope these are helpful 😊

In case you’re still looking for input - you DO NOT have to spend $$$ on skincare. A lot of the times, drugstore products actually are the gentlest on your skin! I have hyper sensitive skin that is compromised due to using fancy, fragrance-chucked “organic” products that were doing my skin only harm. What has healed my skin are good drugstore fragrance-free products, although I do spend more on a sunscreen because I can’t seem to find a drugstore version that’s not chalky/greasy.

@@TrishasMusic I'm not sure where you live, but have you tried/do you have access to Asian sunscreens? I can't stand the feeling of sunscreen on my skin most of the time, but the formulations of Korean and Japanese sunscreen are so good. They're not super, super cheap, but much cheaper than high end American sunscreens, and I only use them on my face. Asian chemical sun filters also offer better UV protection than ones approved in the US. The Canmake Mermaid Skin Gel UV is my personal favorite, feels like a very light moisturizer (with slight dewiness).

I know you’re trying to declutter but getting rid of things that’s you love and will utilize isn’t a healthy way of doing it. Decluttering can become addictive in the same way that over purchasing can. I believe a KZbinr did a video recently called “ the dark side of decluttering.”

I just did a big declutter yesterday with my makeup. While I didn’t go crazy, this last year I “discovered” makeup videos on KZbin and I do regret some of my purchases. When I lifted the bag of decluttered makeup, I literally felt nauseas and thought “this use to be money, what a waste.” And I vowed to NEVER let myself get crazy with makeup again, which I can say with 99% certainty I won’t. And generally when people declutter they DO KEEP the stuff they love and will use, and get rid of the stuff they don’t love/won’t use. After all, we only have one face and two eyes. One can only wear SO MUCH makeup. I’m loving this trend I’m seeing of decluttering. And I think MOST people who declutter (outside of makeup “gurus” who do this for their “job”) keep a minimal makeup collection. I think people are starting to see what a trap it can be to be super into makeup and have a “collection.” The cosmetics companies are laughing all the way to the bank. It’s about time the average makeup consumer wises up...

Heather Miyakawa I decluttered my old makeup also. Honestly I don’t wear a lot of make or buy a lot of makeup. My issue is I hang on to old stuff. So I threw out everything that I bought before 2019. They were all from 2015-2016. I was left with 1 small eyeshadow pallet, 1 foundation, 1 powder, 1 brow liner, 1 eyeliner, 1 mascara and 4 lipstick. I do not own stuff like bronzer, highlighter or even concealers. The stuff I was left with were literally the only stuff I actually use when I decide to wear makeup.

I’ve done a lot of decluttering for makeup. I think I’ve done pretty good job. It’s hard to declutter when you get emotionally attached but I wasn’t using foundations or even my tinted moisturizer anymore! I was only really reaching for the glossier stretch concealer cause I have really textured skin under my eyes and I just felt like everything emphasizes my dry texture. I don’t own a lot of makeup to begin with so I felt safe keeping all my blushes or colored makeup like eyeshadow cause I do use them all. The only eyeshadow I kept that I don’t use is this cool vintage covergirl one from the 1980s (I don’t wear it lol) but that’s really the only one that I didn’t use that I kept. I just felt like it was too cool to just toss especially since they don’t make it anymore!

@@Christinamychas I like this idea too... I decided that I wanted to focus on finishing a few products, so recently I split my collection. I have a makeup bag of products that I use on a more daily basis. I have another bag that I put in my closet that contains other makeup that I still love but am just not using right now. What I realized too is that my taste in makeup is very seasonal, and I wanted to swap out my summer make-up for more winter make-up. I put away the tinted moisturizer and the brighter blush and my more shimmery bronzer and a few other things that I just don't gravitate towards in winter. If you still like products don't get rid of them... just put them away for now and switch out your makeup bag at a later point to give yourself more fun options. Good luck!

I want to have enough room inside that bag (with my tools and brushes) to where I don't have to unpack it to work out of it, so I want to be able to see everything. Scrape some off and throw it in a facial mist for a dewy glow or mix in with some body cream for a nice sheen. I like to work with items to feel less guilty about buying things I don't need. Also.... the products I DO have keep my drawers full thus preventing me from buying even more things I dont need❤

I did a makeup declutter a few weeks back and got a caboodle(gifted) and it all fits perfectly in there and i love it but hopefully one day I can have just one makeup one because I realized it’s quality over quantity so I love videos like yours that shows us what everyone actually likes day to day

I'm actually pretty solid in the make up area. I have like 3 blushes and like 12 lipsticks and 2 mascaras. Now in school supplies I have an excessive amount. Why do I need 7 scissors?? 6 tape cartridges?? And such?? I'll apply the same method to that problem. I'll try to see how much I can fit in one bag for school supplies and let the rest go

I'm not a big makeup person but small eyeshadow palettes are good since you like all the colors and then only fill in the gaps of what you're missing. I only have one go-to neutral 4 pan palette and one larger one with more colors, never felt like I'm missing something since I'm not a colorful makeup person

I really liked your video! You did great! I decluttered my make up collection last year and now I only have a one bag make up collection and I'm super happy about it. I've been paring down and retooling what I need in my makeup inventory, as well as skincare. However, let me say that I am 60, and my makeup needs have changed due to the fact that my skin is much drier due to menopause and hormonal changes, and then letting my hair color change. For the last 3 years I have given up on dying my hair, and my hair texture decided to change on it's own, due to hormones. It's gone from bone straight hair all of my life to wavy/curly! So, I am learning how to "redo"a lot of what's in hair care, skin care, and colors for my changing softer greyed down palette. I had caramel light brown/blonde hair, 7N to 8N in the Summer. I am also a "summer" in the color me beautiful line, so you know that I am cool tones, mid range colors. My browns are now greyed taupes and brownish heathers. Instead of black near my face, I wear mid toned greys, blues, and heathered tones. Navy's for crispness. I do any of the wine reds very well, but no oranges or warmish tones. I've gotten them out of my makeup. Like you, I used to be able to wear a lot of my makeup in 1 makeup bag, but not as big as your bag. 1 to 2 mascaras, now I have to have a primer as well. Then it's 2 to 3 BB creams OR tinted moisturizers. I do have 1 foundation, but wear it only in Winter, when I want either more coverage or moisture. Got rid of the powders, too drying for me. Use setting spray instead. I have about 3 different cream blushes, 2 powder blushes, 2 different bronzers, might get rid of a trio of blush/bronzer/highlighter that does not work for me. Pared down the lip products as well. Now, just a note to all the older gals, when you go silver/grey/salt n pepper, you WILL have to drop many of the nudes and wear COLOR. It's the only way to really still look alive, besides throwing color in a neck scarf or colorful top/blouse/sweater. Too much nude with grey hair, well...why even try then? It has to be blush and lipstick to color the face, I wouldn't go so much with eye color unless it's light pink, lt. orange (if that is your coloring) or nude tone there to cover any darkness after concealer or other corrector tone you may use. If you go with a lot of eye color, well, you might look like you are trying too hard, if you know what I mean. Unless you have a lot of crinkles on your eyes, you can use pearlescent, or shimmer, but no overt glitter. (maybe for Halloween and New Years.) But balance is the key to everything, and paring down to what is tested and true for you is what you know will work, and then you won't waste money, time and look weird or foolish. If it's something you can't buy all the time at the store order it online or on Amazon. That's a good way to replenish without going to the store and hearing products that you don't need or those of the wrong or "retired" colors calling out your name..Save those dollars!!

Yep. I lived with a couple sponge tips and my fingers for tools and a really bad plastic eyelash curler. I had a Cover girl shimmering sands trio, almay one coat mascara, cover girl clean cover up (never called it foundation 🤣) and a bright pink wet n wild color icon blush. Oh and an NYC black eyeliner and sparkly lipgloss. 1998-2011 i used just these things. Then I found beauty KZbin. 🤣

I have a makeup bag about the same size as your black one and its just got one layer of makeup on the bottom - I really don't have much makeup: 1 eyebrow thingy, like uhhh 7 lipsticks, 2 cream blushes, 1 eyeshadow palette, 1 foundation, 1 concealer, 1 bronzer, 1 highlighter. I have 3 brushes and also one nail polish (Essie, ballet slippers). Where I struggle is obviously with lipsticks...I don't wear them much anymore because of the pandmic and masks, but I love the colors! So probably I won't use them up, and eventually will have to toss them when they get expired and gross.

I've tried a huge declutter (because really, why do I have shelves of makeup when I wear it maybe once a week), but get overwhelmed. What has been working for me is a mini declutter any time I'm not satisfied with a makeup product or category. For example, I wore turquoise eyeshadow last week and hated it...so why do I have all of these colorful eyeshadows? That led to a huge purge and return to my neutral shadow collection. Just an idea for other people who might find tackling it all at once overwhelming. I plan to get down to one makeup case. I just might take a whole lot longer to achieve it. ;)
@TimiSterr5 жыл бұрын
I think it's OK to keep a tad bit more than what fits into that makeup bag IF you know you'll use something up in the foreseeable future and replace it with those products. For example, I know I use up 3-4 foundation type products a year, so if I know I'll be able to start using my "backup" in 3-6 months, then I'm allowed to keep it. If not, there is no reason to keep it, because it'll go bad sooner then I can finish it up.

I think the term “collection” leads to our excuses to continue to collect. They don’t call them KZbin INFLUENCERS for nothing! There used to be a tag going around about 8-9 years ago, “KZbin made me buy it”. It touched on all areas of consumerism. Some of reasons about make up and skin care were pretty funny. By this time, if you made a video, one knew how silly their excuses were for buying, ie: a lipgloss that you knew you hated because you’re long hair would get caught in it. Or diaper bag that so-in-so was reviewing because it had a place specifically for your wallet! (All diaper bags have plenty of room for your wallet) god knows how “What’s in your bag” videos has influenced us! Have you ever watch Decluttering videos from Christine (used to be Pinksofoxy). They are a must watch. I am on a low buy too. Oh, there’s a great book Your Money or your Life helps you learn a lot about yourself.

I'm definitely a shopping addict as well :( I've decluttered a bit but I'm still feeling overwhelmed; I'm going on a no-buy and will focus on working my way through the rest of my skincare and makeup collections. If there are products that I haven't used by the end of 2020, I will declutter those.

0min - 0.22min: Literally NO. 😂😂 I never only had one item of each like one blush, one mascara etc. and being able to put it all into one makeup bag 😂 But that's because I've always been a fan of makeup creativity and not so much of natural looks so I always had multiple colors of eyeshadow, lipstick and so on from the get go. 😄 I had a huge collection and downsized it gradually. I've just decluttered a lot of items literally 3 days ago which felt really good. There were so many pieces I don't like, don't use, "grew out of" so there's no point in keeping it. I still have products I don't really need in my collection, but now I only have one drawer of makeup and not many as I used to (the drawer is quite big and deep tho but I'm fine with it). Working on decluttering it further and further until I only have the products that really make me happy! Great video!
