Hey hey y'all! Alright so, first of all, sorry it's late, we had a family emergency, but we are decluttering my mom's kitchen. It's definitely going to take a couple parts, I mean this one section is almost an hour-long video. It's so much stuff to go through, we're having to sort it between different piles, we're having to see what family members what, just a lot of digging through and sorting. If you're reading this, this is your sign to declutter just ONE space in your house. Doesn't matter what it is, or how big or how small, just one little section. Maybe it's an area you've been wanting to tackle, just do it! I know it's a lot of work. But we got this, we'll do this together! One area at a time!

I’ve been doing Swedish death stuff the last two weeks. I am a very organized person and love doing this stuff. I’m 75 and there is no way my husband would put anything in those little drawer containers. 🤣 i would suggest donating at least half the stuff out of each little container. I saw my husbands sisters (6 of them) fight over junk! Dad isn’t going to throw birthday parties or family dinners. Get rid of way more. One guy doesn’t need 5 bags of dental stuff! Good luck and keep up the good work I’ll pray for y’all 🎉❤

Put your silk flowers in the shower and wash them off. It is great when families can get along during this process. My husband and I both lost both of our parents in the last year and half. It is a very hard process but both of our families got through it with no arguing🙌🏼

Love that your videos are not uppity. So many cleaning videos are with these fancy houses with the marble countertops and hardwood flooring and expensive decorations. You and your daughter are so down to earth that us common folks can relate. Just one idea. Maybe put labels on bins and boxes to help you and your father locate things easier.❤️

Awe thank you yeah definitely not uppity over here. Don't get me wrong though I do love those uppity esthetics for sure. Goals to work towards. But it will be done on a budget for sure. I'm very thrifty. I like bougie things for sure but attitude wise I will always stay true to my roots. I'm just not an uppity person and I didn't raise my kids to be either. And yes absolutely i definitely need to label things that will help my dad for sure.

I lost my mom almost 6 years ago and my dad a few years before that. It’s hard. The emotions sneak up on you out of nowhere for seemingly no reason at all. It’s normal. Girls, ya’ll are great 😂! Nothing better than Southern Engineering! Just wash the greenery face down in the bathtub or hose off outside. You might consider ditching some of the upper cabinet decor for wicker baskets to hold less used items like your Dad’s meat processing stuff. So proud of ya’ll. Just like my family. I lost my dad when I was 27 and my mom when I was 31...it was SOOO hard for me to go in and clean out their things after they passed-my husband and I actually had to have friends come in with us to help us and encourage and support us in it. Also we took those certain little things that were very sentimental for me. It's been 27 years since my dad passed away and 23 years since my mom passed away and I think about them every single day....You both are doing a great job together, it's really nice that you have each other.

We "kids" are all retired, in our 70's, homes full, even downsizing ourselves. Most things as I declutter Mom's will be donated. Few items are wanted, needed by us 5 kids...well, 4 now. We lost my oldest brother suddenly in March. Life goes on....

First I have to do my dishes then clean the sink, then wash down my counters and spread a beach towel....THEN get the lamps and take them all apart wash the parts, dry the parts reassemble, clean the night stands and put them back then call it good. I enjoyed your video. I recently lost both my parents, they passed within two years of each other. The house fell to me and my two sisters. We knew what we were in for because my dad was like your mom. Kept everything just in case. It was so difficult. We cried all the time. It took us months and about 3 or 4 dumpsters. Plus boxes and boxes to Goodwill. We also tried to help them but they would never hear of it. One little piece of advice, don't keep the refrigerator handle. That's how it all starts, by saying it's still good and we may need it someday. Let it go, unless your dad says otherwise.

It helped us a lot to put labels on the front of the storage containers. Helped my Dad be better able to find things and for all of us to be able to find things and put them in same place. I got a Dymo LetraTag and it has lasted for years . I have to giggle as my Mom had so much of the same clutter. We spent 3 years working our way through all the stray paper plates. I ate Thanksgiving off of a Veggie Tales birthday plate. 😂

I concur about always labeling boxes. If you can't remember what's in them an hour after filling them, no one else will.

To wash the artificial flowers/plants, put warm water in the wash tub, bathtub, or sink and add dish soap to the water. Submerse the flowers into the soapy water being careful not to put the flower pot or foam into the water. Swish. Remove dirty water. Add clean water and rinse the flowers. Let air dry.

I understand your experience. My beloved Dad passed 4 years ago and I am my mother's caregiver. It's rough, but there will come a time all will meld together. I've been trying to go through his things because mom is a hoarder. Little by little. It will happen for you. Best wishes for continued success. ( I'm pretty sure we had more lighters than you. We stopped counting at 11). 😂

Losing a parent isn’t easy. I lost my mom in 2005, and still miss her every day. Since then I’ve lost my dad and two siblings. It never gets easier but I take solace in knowing they are with God and are no longer in pain.

I'm so sorry to hear about all your loss my heart goes out to you 🩷 it's never easy that's for sure. But like you I find solace in know she is in heaven with our Lord and Savior. She is watching over us. Our own personal guardian angel. And mostly she isn't in any more pain. She had been on dialysis since 2018. It really took a toll on her body. She is at peace now.

You could get your dad some nicer looking containers for his stuff that is sitting on top of the counter. Would look nicer & more organized. Enjoy your organization & new to your videos. So nice of y’all to do this for your dad & since you’re living with your dad it will give y’all peace of mind & as you said refreshing. Another suggestion, get an inexpensive label maker & put labels on the containers so when someone is looking for something you don’t have to pull out the containers to see what’s in them (the ones you can’t see what’s in them).

I would absolutely love to. But he is a creature of habit and could care less about esthetically pleasing items. Nor spending money on what he sees as unnecessary. He has used that thing for as long as I can remember. Like I was a little kid it has always been on the counter. It's gonna stay for sure 🤷‍♀️. But I get it. It's definitely an eye sore but it's his and he is happy with it. It doesn't bother me.

How much (%) would you guesstimate that you keep, donate or trash ? I’m also in the process of decluttering and I feel like I am still keeping too much. Some of the things I have not used for years, or have duplicates, and some I feel like I’m just putting in another place knowing full well that it all needs to eventually go ! 😮 Thanks for your videos, they really help to motivate me to
@rebeccaspencer718
@rebeccaspencer718 10 күн бұрын
I completely understand. I thing from the get go we are probably keeping bout 50% divided between everyone. And the rest trash or donate. One thingbi love about decluttering is one time you do it and you keep alot and then like a year or so later you declutter again and you tend to find yourself thing why in the world did I save this. But you know what. At that moment in time it still ment something to you. You still had and emotional attachment to it and that's ok.. grief is a process. And not one to be rushed. It will last a lifetime. Emotionally you will know when you can declutter certain items. Start small don't go crazy. Baby steps. We can do this together when you're ready.
