Warning: This may ruin the fragrance youtube for you. You might never want to watch another “Panty Dropper”, “Men go crazy” perfume video with the same child-like excitement or wonder.
Perfume Nation, we are in for a wild ride! In this episode, we decode attraction, and discover shocking, and rather uncomfortable data-backed facts about our most watched perfume videos of all time: Panty Dropping Fragrances, Most complimented Perfumes, Sexy, and Alluring Scents.
Good News: It turns out it is true, Sexiness is in the smell (too). Science is proving it bit by bit. What we smell strongly affects our feelings, yet it is not the yumminess of the scent that gets us going.
Bad News: All we were told by marketing or influencers about complimentary fragrances are honest lies, blind leading the blind.
We do smell sexiness, yet pheromone scents are a scam.
We do universally like gourmand perfumes, yet perfume is an obstacle to attracting a suitable partner.
And maybe some of you knew it on the back of your mind? If so, share your observations!
Thank you for your trust and support, see you soon in the next video 💋

The whole science, molecular insight discussion was so interesting to hear & learn about. Thank you! To put it simply, when it comes to smells that make me wanna lean-in, I find varying circumstances dictate what scents are sexy or even what degree of BO is acceptable, or perhaps even sexy/intimate to me. For example, when out for an evening, I’m expecting someone to smell less or not at all of BO & instead to either smell clean or wear a nice, interesting, evening fragrance😉; however, when out for a hike/bike/ski, as the adventure progresses I’m not surprised - more accepting - when a companion’s developing BO mixes with the fresh air environment & sometimes (if lucky) makes for a captivating scent. I haven’t tried perfumes made with those ‘special’ notes as it’s just not something I see myself wearing - but I am curious about them & there’s a lot to learn about primal, involuntary, subconscious scent attractions. Thanks for sharing!

Maria you are absolutely amazing! So fascinating, I have learnt so much, please continue your series of these more nerdy topic that nobody else does. P.S. you are my inspiration how well and how long you can speak about these topics with such a coherent manner. How did you learn this ?

In terms of what's generally socially acceptable these days, yes; there is a strong preference for the pleasant smells. But it becomes more complicated, when You think about how some of the most historically relevant perfumes (Shalimar, Fracas, Joy etc.) do contain some of the more 'stinky' notes, and usually in a very obvious way. Think civet, indole, ambergris, oud.. even musk (though these days it's mostly synthetic and no doubt made more crowd-pleasing, the origins are still very close to a deer's ass). And while personally, an overload of these is not my cup of tea, I can see why it's been considered very sexy/sensual in the past, stimulating the primitive parts of our brain and reminding us of sweat and other scents that are a byproduct of 'doing the deed'

The importance of perceptually priming or framing any sense cannot be understated. Although certain innate programs that guide our decision making regarding lustful attraction are likely still playing somewhere in the background, there's arguably something to be said for pressured societal conditioning in the hygiene age. Incidentally, I think that we've taken things so far this century, that we're finally seeing mindfullness return into the equation and a slow but steady restoration of rational holism, away from refined chemical manufacturing and towards the use of more natural materials that are less detrimental to our symbiotic microfloras. In fact, it's very possible that a societal and perhaps even industrial bifurcation of sorts is underway (or at the very least looming), with one group supporting a return to more balanced neo-terran living, and the other, a heedless sprint towards ultra-processed, technocratic turmoil. But a great discussion here Maria. 💖 Like you mentioned, olfaction and the perception thereof, whether conscious or superconscious, is an extremely complex and nuanced subject worthy of a video series in and of itself. Regardless of what many mainstream scientific communities continue to believe or disbelieve, I find anecdotal or personal experiences to be far more fascinating since they represent the true essence of external validity. And once we start getting into the matter of being able to percieve smells across time-space without molecules, receptors or even a physical body - something that I've been practicing consciously for two decades now - it's a whole other ball game. 😄 Speaking of ball games, is there a niche/indie/artisan scent out there that has had a crack at emulating the fleshy smell of a moist nether region? 🤔 Wasn't Amouage's Guidance recently accused of something similar? I recall Angel (Cubaknow) doing an impression of a perfume called Vulva that was....pretty darn close. 😆

As for my tolerance of bodily smells. I can't tolerate the smell of body odour on myself, the slightest whiff, like if I have very rarely forgotten to put deodorant on, I have to shower immediately. I can cope with my husband's bodily smells though. There is also a musky smell that men over a certain age give off. For example my step dad. In fact when I get in his car it smells like him, that older man musky smell. It smells safe. He showers every day so it is not anything like body odour. Strangers bodily smells, in particular young men on public transport, I can smell the dirty hair and scalp, the body odour covered with body spray, the smell of their clothes that should have been washed several wears ago. I am really sensitive to those smells and they make me feel so uncomfortable that I wanna get off the bus!

Highly reccommend the Dr Hubermann episode with Dr Noam Sobel on the neurobiology of smell. It's worth the few hours to watch or listen to

Wow I wonder if that molecule that baby's scent whatever it's called could be what causes some women to go into post natal psychosis.
