Oh yes! Opal glass is very pretty! Brass is not ever going to be out of use in home fixtures, i think. Besides, quality never goes out of style, and having authentic heirlooms is more special than up to date decor. By all means enjoy your unique, lovely opal glass! 💜

Antiques and family heirlooms are most of what I grew up around. With the passing of a generation, I inherited a lot, so the tradition continues. Not every piece is kept "just because" it belonged to someone, but the sense of connection coupled with quality and curation is what makes home for me. I wouldn't want it any other way.

Thanks Garret! My husband likes to charge his phone in the bathroom. Years ago, he started tucking his phone charger in a decorative vase I kept on the counter. We hate clutter, and I thought this was ingenious. It not only looks better, but we don't have to worry about wires getting in the way. I also love drawers in side tables to tuck all of my essentials. In the bedroom, I keep my hand cream, lip balm, ,etc... In the living room next to my comfy chair, I do the same, but also keep some office supplies: pens, pencils, a pair of scissors, and even a box cutter. I like opening my Amazon packages there, lol.

It's also SUCH a breath of fresh air to see an interior designer who knows what they're talking about that doesn't just follow trends but follows their passion and style. You inspire me tremendously and I'm currently looking to rent my very first apartment, and whenever I wonder "what should I get for x?" I watch your videos to get inspired. Hi Garrett! I am so happy I found your channel! I love mahogany furniture. I love woods, dark woods. I also love dark paint and white trim. My favorite wall color is a rich dark gray which many design experts say is out. I have been painting my house gray since the 1980's and I have always loved it. I have tried painting other colors but I always go back to dark gray. My home is a mix of nice furnishings and some matchy matchy and cheap stuff that needs to go. I need to "finish" decorating my home and feel comfortable in it. I have been stuck in a design rut for a while, I searched many channels before I found yours. You are the first interior designer I have come across that says "You do you!" and means it! You have inspired me to move forward and finish my home! Thank You for being you!

Another décor item I can't live without, and this will make me sound vain, are mirrors. I'm speaking of long floor mirrors with amazing frames in every bedroom in the house (for my sons or others that visit and stay over). They each have long, floor mirrors, and a snake plants :) . I've lived way too long without mirrors, and have gone to work looking...ordinary, and at times, totally uncoordinated. Long mirrors helps me see from head to toe how my outfit is working out.

I'm unpacking after a move, and now I know that I can't live without beautiful rocks. 😁 Stone bookends, polished stones, rare rocks I've collected through the years... Heavy! Stone and copper. I love them both. Thanks for another great video. I'm glad I'm a subscriber.

Love your expert, practical advice and how positive and encouraging you are. Can't live without books, lots of them. And not just for decoration, to read. So many ideas, perspectives and inspirations, very much like traveling really.

I really appreciated this video. I don't like overhead lighting, and have none in bedrooms. And I've never understood the objection to family pictures. I don't live in a hotel room, but my home! One thing you didn't mention...I do like throws that I change out with seasons, i.e. cotton in the summer, usually white, and more colorful and heavier ones for winter, including an Irish style one that my grandmother made me. Necessary to curl up with any time of year.

I love wood tones in furniture too dear Garrett. I haven’t any painted piece. And yes ! I adore accent light produced by beautiful oriental or what ever lamp you like. I also collect white and blue and I totally love it !? You are my fave decorator because you are so real about everything that’s in, out, or keep it as you say: “I like it for you, I like it for me !” Love you !

Great video. I agree with you on the essentials must haves. I have both wood and capiz shell boxes scattered in my home. Love them and they hold essentials like tv remotes, note pads, pens I like to make lists while I watch tv, reading glasses & lens cleaner. You have such practical and livable ideas and never push trends but inform us about them. Always look forward to your videos.

Hello 👋 I’m ok with a designated space for family photos cause I’m that person that will not hang up family photos heck I won’t hang up anything up on the wall 😂 you would definitely walk into my home and wonder if I even live there. Im working on it though, I’m trying. Love your videos you always have the best advice and no two videos are ever alike.

I absolutely must have 1 or 2 accent items in a room that are black, like maybe a throw pillow or a black lamp base with a pretty white silk shade; nothing large. Maybe knobs on a dresser or a picture frame, you get the idea. I just think black in a room is very elegant, but only in small sizes!

Omg, I cannot believe this channel! ❤ I am soooo tired of this trend or that trend and being told how dated this or that makes my home!!! I know what I like and what my hubby likes and I don't give a rats behind about trends!!! Hubby & I both love mahagany traditional furniture. I have found some neat pieces on offerup that complimented the furniture that we already had. Garrett, I'm so glad I found this channel! 😁

I bought blue willow China 15 yrs ago because I like it. Then I bought the pink willow china because I like it. They matched nothing in my home. But now my home is slowly changing to the things that make me happy. Sapphire blue is my fav ( September girl) and my home reflects it without going over the top. Thanks for your family photos comments. It makes our family home reflect our family. Enjoyed this video so much!!!

I have four lamps in my living room that are set up in a way that all I do is flip a switch and All the light comes on. So simple and instant ambience.

I’m with you Garrett! I love multiple depths of lighting in a space 🥰. Everything else can look “pretty” with the right lighting. Haha
