Its very beautiful. Great job. But being in the epoxy buisness i feel I have to warn. Even though you didnt coat the full board, washing it it very hot water or a dishwasher could still leach the oils from the paint into the rest of the wood. Also if your happen to get over onto the epoxy with a knife that could also expose and release oils that wouldn't be food safe. Decorating "cutting boards" is a beautiful art and you are skilled at it. But I would, for the future, mention that it could be changed to a charcuterie board instead. I also don't recommend using oil based paint color. The chemical reaction does however work well with rust-oleum brant spray paint or simply use cosmic grade micca (very cheap) keep up the great art. And sorry if I came off as being too critical. I just felt I needed to mention it as I have a buisness that deals with this art and it was told to me.

Thank you for watching! I always inform my clients that purchase boards I’ve decorated to not cut on the resin, nor put any food on it with out a barrier like a napkin or plate. I also include washing instructions that say it’s not dishwasher safe (as all wood boards, no matter if you call it a cutting board, cheese board or charcuterie board), and to hand wash only with warm water and mild dish soap. I love using oil paints in resin, and have never had a bad reaction with it, or it cause any issues once cured. As you watch more of my videos, you’ll see I like to use many different things to color resin! Over the years I have been working with resin, I have come to find my faves, including using rustoleum products (even though most are oil-based), oil paints, dyes, and pastes made specifically for resin. Honestly, powders are my least favorite to work with, but everyone has their preference!

How do you get good coverage on the sides? Mine show the wood and have a translucent coverage on the edges and sides. Your work is beautiful!!!
@JOTZdesigns
@JOTZdesigns 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Make sure the colors you use are opaque, and start with a color as your base, not clear. Or if you tape the sides off, you can wait until the resin has set for an hour or two, then take the tape off and let the resin run down. Usually if I want to make sure that the wood does not show, I will paint the board where I will resin. Most of the time though, I don’t mind the wood showing through. Thanks foe watching!

Great video! Do you do the white first to have colors pop more? I am having a hard time making the colors dark enough to show.
@JOTZdesigns
@JOTZdesigns 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The reason I put the white down first is so the colors would flow easier, and so that if you were to ‘see through’ the colors, you’d see the white and not the board. If I wanted to see the board, then I’d use clear. With oil paints, they’re vibrant enough to be seen on their own. What are you using for your colors?

@@JOTZdesigns I have never tried oil paints with resin. I use pigment powders and pastes.

Every pigment is different of course, and I would really need to see examples to give my best opinion, as I've had both powders and pastes show and not show for various reasons. Please feel free to send a couple images to me through FB messenger (@JOTZ designs LLC) or through Instagram (@JOTZdesigns), and I'll be happy to see if I can hlep in some way!

how long did you wait to add the second clear layer of resin
@JOTZdesigns
@JOTZdesigns 3 жыл бұрын
For this piece I waited overnight. No particular reason, it’s just when I got back to it. Depending on your resin, you can pour another layer 4+ hours later. The thinner your resin, the longer you need to wait until it’s just tacky and no longer sticky to be able to pour again. If it’s cured, then I’d recommend lightly scratching the surface with sand paper for best adhesion, and clean with isopropyl alcohol to remove any fingerprint oils.

Why do you need to put a clear coat on?
@JOTZdesigns
@JOTZdesigns 3 жыл бұрын
There’s a few reasons to add a clear coat. Only when the resin is clear does it retain the resin’s properties like heat resistance, and any claims to being food safe (I personally don’t recommend using resin for food, except for things like crackers.); it gives great depth to the art layer(s); and it can cover up any imperfections such as divots, unevenness, glitter sticking out, etc. Hope that helps!
