DECORATING FOR CHRISTMAS AND HANUKKAH ???

Jew here. I have been fattening up my Hanukkah decor collection every year, though I am not a fan of blue and white decor- give me vibrant colors. I also have a few trees which have always stayed boxed in the garage. I haven’t put them up. Xmas has sentimental value for me too. Growing up we had one and Xmas was just a secular/ seasonal celebration with gifts and parties for the children . It’s a happy feeling time of the year. I still am searching for a Hanukkah playlist that really speaks to me. May have to create my own. It’s my intention to create Hanukkah decor that is colorful and ranges outside of the blue and white.

I can so relate. I went from Catholic (in childhood) to Nichiren Buddhism to Judaism. Now I am a member of Secular Synagogue.

In my research, I have found that the “ Christmas tree” is not Christian at all. It’s not even a religious symbol or item. It originated in Europe among people who were not Christians. Even in Russia those who don’t practice religion have them as a celebration of a secular holiday. I read that even Jews from Russia and surrounding areas had them and no one winked or blinked because it was a secular practice with no religious value attached to it. It is certainly not what is mentioned in Jeremiah

I had an interesting religous upbringing/journey as well, Dad's family was Christian (he was agnostic), and Mom was ethnically culturally Jewish but not religious until I was about 7. I was put in Catholic school (its own special story) and eventually, my mom became a Messianic believer and I am the same. So I also do all the holidays.

You’re so correct it’s not enough Jewish docor for the holidays it’s hard to find, so when you see them buy it all.i bought cups that had the Star of David ✡️ on it table covering and napkins set wow for me grew up in a black family in Brooklyn New York following Jewish holidays call holy days. Still celebrate every year

I think there's a lot of crossover between Jewish and Buddhism when it comes to the social considerations. My brother did the same thing but we're Jewish. I didn't do a bat mitzvah when I was supposed to but I did it as an adult in Israel. It's nice that you're getting in touch with your Jewish side. I always put up a electric menorah out as well but with so few Jewish people around me it's hard to celebrate, you know?

I was raised Baptist, then at ten my mom took me away from my dad and I went to a United Church for all my teenhood with her. That led to me eventually falling away from faith. But when I was 25 I went to a Bible study and God revealed His love and His truth to me. So I came back to the Lord and got baptized in a messianic Jewish congregation! I love my adoptive Jewish roots! Most of all my Jewish Messiah! I don't decorate for Christmas because I can't see the connection to anything in the Bible. But nothing against pretty decorations!

Hanukkah is celebrated for 8 days. You use the middle candle to light the others. ❤

The 7 branched menorah is HOLY and exclusively for use in the Holy Temple. So not to trample upon that which is holy, the Menorah for Hanukkah is a 9 branched menorah, with 4 candles on each side, and one servant candle in the center ( a Shamash) that is used to light the others.
