Dave is quite obviously a bit of a musicologist, as well as completely comfortable in his own musical skin (and legacy). Plus, he (and, by extension, the FFs) cares not a whit about any blowback he knows he'll get (just read this page)! Kudos to Dave and band for following their muse, challenging their own talents, as well as the ears of their fans (and doubtless, new ones!)....plus, don't overlook the ingenious new band moniker, with tongue planted firmly in cheek...and the "Hail Satin!" proclamation. I'd buy the red satin baseball jacket with that phrase splashed in stylized script on the back! Note to Dave: Next covers to tackle: "Baby Come Back" by Player, and "Soul City Walk" by Archie Bell & the Drells!

Real fan's seen coming shocked it didnt happen sooner dave was into all the old shit first, blues jazz disco. Only found love for punk and rock after his cousin took him to his first show. And he clicked and instantly knew thats what he was going to do he couldn't sing like his idled sings he studied and played along to on his pillow/saucepan drum kit. But he could sing like the punk and grunge bands of the time and he was hyper as balls coz of ADHD so it was perfect fit and as they say the rest is history. Sorry for grammar and spelling im a bit autistic and ADHD i have to write instantly or if i think about full stops and all that crap i get side tracked then nothing makes sense so yer sorry

I had JUST typed a comment a minute ago or so in this comment section asking if anyone knows exactly what's said there. I said that in all the lyrics sites I've seen it says "What you doin' on your back" but that you can tell that's Not what's being sung there & that I don't think that's what was sung in the original Bee Gees song either. For years I've sang it as "What you doin' laying on your back," but I don't think that's what's being said either. "What you doing with the wall at your back" makes sense & is better, but it still doesn't sound like what's being sung there. Does ANYone know for sure?

This is amazing! There was such a blow back from rockers against disco back in the 70's. I remember riding my bus to highschool and there would be bars with big banners that said NO DISCO HERE! And now you have one of the best bands ever playing The BeeGees. AWESOME! RIP Taylor. We miss you.

the backlash against disco was political in the sense that it was music of the gays in the clubs.. its rise threatened the hetero crowd. Yes many hated disco for other reasons but many dont realize it was more than just not liking a particular genre.

What's wrong is that The Bee Gees got grouped with those awful disco songs and there was the album burning in Chicago. If you listen to those awful disco songs then listen to The Bee Gees you realize the BGs got shafted. Bee Gees was fun dance music, not that Disco Duck shit.

Well... really... "Disco Duck" was out there all on its own (totally horrible)... I personally thought KC and The Sunshine Band escaped the period quite well, too, and were respected later on for having great fun dance music. They were even in a 2003 movie "The Inlaws" with Ryan Reynolds and Michael Douglas.

@@johnex3303 No. Disco Duck was more a parody on disco made by DJ Rick Dees. Nobody expected it to be popular but it caught on and hit #1. And some Disco, especially the stuff coming out of Philly International in the early 70s were quite good, which was the stuff the Bee Gees emulated. It got more commercialized and watered down when it spread to NY and LA.

I don't. And not only because I was born a decade after Bee Gees were big, but because I just hate most pop music. I'll tell you what is the music I grew up with. Green Day, Sum 41, Blink 182, The Offspring, the nu metal movement (yeah, nobody is perfect, but since we're talking about damn disco music...) and on top of that, the Foo Fighters. The aggression, the loud, punky guitars, the fierce and juggling drums. Not _this_ . I understand that at a certain point of their lives, an artist feels the need to experiment a little (or even a lot), I could tolerate this if it were a parody (which I don't know, but it kind of seems like that to me), but in this comment section I see no polite and constructive critical comment towards the song and I wonder what's going on with this world. In a nutshell: I don't recognize myself into this and I'd like the world to know about it and to see if there's someone else who feels that way.

@@JasonUmbrellabird I do apologize. It's like people calling music disco when it is R&B funk. Disco is a building where people gather to dance to a DJ. It is not a genere of music. But it still persists. Just because you can dance to any form of music does not make it disco. kzbin.info/www/bejne/omKUnp6seLGesNk

I believe they played this at the bee gees induction ceremony or something to do with the bee gees where everyone picked a song amd sang it in front if him and his family and brothers family ...

It's a song that seems like it shouldn't work but does, and amazingly well. I dont think the cover does justice to the original, but I'm enjoying it and I hope they had a blast playing it.

Check out The Foo Fighters version of AC/ DC 's, Let There Be Rock. It works on every level and it looked and sounded like they were having a blast.
