Frank Zappa and John Denver must not be forgot for their big part in this too. All 3 were needed and all 3 were exceptional. I personally think John Denver owned it though. If you watch it, listen to their speeches plus their 'question time' after each speech.

To be brutally honest, I agree with the statements Dee Snider made. However, I've come to find myself supportive of the inclusion of the sticker. They have ratings for movies, TV shows, and video games. What's wrong with a simple sticker saying that there's explicit lyrics? I'll tell you what's wrong, albums with warning labels sell more copies. There's a reason that one of George Carlin's CD covers was his face covered by an oversized parental advisory warning label. To quote Nikki Sixx of Mötley Crüe, "So they called up and said 'we had to put a sticker on our album cover,' and I was like 'what's the sticker say?' and it's like 'this record contains explicit lyrics.' I said 'Put it on! It's wonderful! People will buy the album!" You're fucking right people will buy the album with a parental advisory label. Thank you Tipper Gore for helping teenagers more easily find music with naughty lyrics.

Even if you don't like Twisted Sister, we owe a lot to him for his masterful performance at Congress. It could have been worse, is what I mean, but he saved the entire situation by pointing out how ludicrous it all was to begin with AND in spite of everything else, he's a Christian above a rock performer. They literally couldn't say anything to that. No arguments or rebuttals.

I used this for my senior project last year. My evil a-hole teacher gave me an 100% for the class presentation, but the judges for the actual presentation gave me an 88%. 2 points away from an A, even though everyone said my presentation was more informative and interesting than a lot of the presentations that DID earn A's... -_- Unfortunately, some people are still ignorant about rock and metal. :/

Most of the people that listen to these songs have enough common sense not to take these lyrics seriously. If you think, for example, that just because Ozzy sings about drinking yourself to death, that you should do it, then, you have to see a shrink and admit yourself into an institution. These songs are made for entertainment purposes only. They are not meant for you to follow them like a dog on a leash. Kids need to be taught this at an early age.

I love this guy.ww "I went in there knowing that they were going to try and make me look like a fool and support their cause. They didn't know that I could, in fact, speak a coherent sentence." It's been said a million times, so add my voice to the front lines: YES, there are examples, many, in fact, of metal songs written that could be interpreted to mean something subliminal and perverse. But on the other hand, turn on any pop radio station nowadays! If there's a metal song out there that talks about the exact same thing, at least it SOUNDS good. Why target metal? What's wrong with it? Fuck off, poppers. This is an open field for music, and if you don't like the music, don't approach it. Hell, half of the shit you hear on the radio nowadays is even LESS creative. "What does the fox say?!?!?!?!?!" (Yes, I know that it doesn't play on the radio, at least not where I live, but you get my point.) I mean, SHIT, talk about a lack of ideas. Read a book. Get some emotions in the music. Be fucking personal. Don't reach out to an audience--reach INTO yourself and pull something out for people to decide if they like it or not. I personally don't like Mr. Snider's music. But I'm obsessed with this interview of his. Fuck, man. I declare fucking war on bad music. Rock on, Dee Snider. Stay (sic).

The funny thing about this is that Dee asked Al Gore if he listens to his music and of course Gore smirks and says no I listen to Zappa. An artist who in 1979 writes songs about fisting with crisco a females pooper chute. Those are literally the lyrics. Snyder should of brought up the lyrics to him and would love to hear Gore's explanation to that.

ALL BANDS, WHETHER ROCK OR HIP HOP, HAVE THE RIGHT TO MAKE WHATEVER KIND OF SONGS THEY CHOOSE. THE PMRC AND CONGRESSIONAL SUB-COMMITTEES ALWAYS TRY TO FIND BAD THINGS IN THIS MUSIC BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO. IT'S UP TO THE INDIVIDUAL TO DETERMINE WHAT THE MESSAGE OF A SONG IS. JUST BECAUSE A SONG IS ABOUT SUICIDE, DOESN'T MEAN PEOPLE ARE GOING TO DO IT. IF EVERYONE DID THAT, THERE WOULDN'T BE ANY FANS LEFT TO BUY THE ALBUMS. I'M GLAD THERE ARE GUYS LIKE DEE SNIDER AROUND.

@dementedpianist i wish too. i recently did my research paper on this stuff and i was disgusted with what i found. they actually stopped filming Dee at times because he was the only one part of the group that was targeted by the PMRC so they thought he didnt deserve his testimony to be recorded. but instead each one of their testimonies were no less as great. the PMRC was a terrible group it was basically a 3 year old vs an expert in these hearings

1984 greatest reason for the 1st amendment law which the system failed to enforce which allowed to be violated by the Religious groups like the PRMC which was filled with bible thumpers that rather force people into listening to their genre of religious music than allowing people the freedom of choice of playing something other than Christian music, I believe if you want to listen to Buddhist music, devil music or any other type of music not pertaining to christian music then go for it be my guest I don't believe in any religious groups to be better or worse than any other groups out there and for this type of outlash during this time frame point out the great flaws our judicial system had which in itself was just overwhelmed in religious members that don't even know whether to wipe their own arse with their left or their right hand.
