Thank you! Been looking for someone to say what size drill bit to use. Yes, I could have visually matched it with a bit but who wants to drill into their truck with a guess. I feel a lot better tackling this project for my Pops today.

I thought the '08-'16 F250/F350 tailgates had a built in torsion type assist??

Had the same problem but I fixed it by putting 1 EZ on each side of tailgate and it works perfect.

My nutsert bent and got lose -i need to replace it. how did you remove the nutsert?

The one for my 2016 F-150 is totally different than this one. Much more simple, and it took about 15 Minutes to install.

I have been considering this assembly but also found another type that gets hidden in the pax side tail light that seems to be a stronger fit. it's made by Tasca parts and there is a video on you tube for installation. do you have any comparisons between the two. cheers

I looked at that. Won't work on the super duty. Might work on the F150. Take the taillight off to see whether the upper ball is installed. That's the issue.

You fixed a problem for this kit, good job. However, before the drilling and shopping for more hardware, why not just buy the OEM kit? It's hidden and only cost me 45 bucks with shipping. 12 minute install...

Ninebreaker I called Ford to get an OEM kit for a 2016 F350 and they said they don’t show a lot for the 2016. What year is your truck

@@billleslie2251 Hey Buddy. Mine's a 2015 f150. The same one should work for you. Unless something is different with f350 tailgate. The ford brand is FoMoCo. Really cheap on eBay.. Hope this helps.

Would you consider installing a shock to each end of the tailgate? or will having two shocks be too restricting?

What did you use to tap the new hole? I have the same oval hole on my tailgate.

Not to mention when the tailgate is closed the strut hits the bracket on side of the tailgate.

FYI IF YOU HAVE A 2017 F-150? Will this fit on a 2017 F150? A: As per Dee Zee this will not work on your 2017 Ford F150. They will be releasing new part number 43205 that is designed for you vehicle in early March. I hope this helps! Mary/DirectDistributing

I just ordered this product today! So what I should do is not use the hole that they tell me to, but drill a new precise hole that better fits the nut insert.
