I just want to take a moment to thank you, for such a beautiful-well done, biography of beloved 503. It's my first year watching and have been so pleasantly surprised by many things. I watch explore eagles' nests. I only watch 2, because I get attached & I know my limits! I wasn't sure what to expect at the falls. Day one until now, have been completely mesmerized! At beg of season, other than Otis, 3 bears really stood out to me: 503, 812 and 801. Of course now I've fallen for them all! I heard vague references regarding 503s history. I love watching his behavior; playful w any/all, shares food w subs (brought his own posse to the falls) and fishing success! I dubbed him "Rockstar" bcuz of his groupies and most bears accepting him when he comes to the falls. I already love Holly too w "LO' in tow this season, but this makes me love her even more! Now I'll watch 719 more too! I'm not sure if it's bcuz it's the end of the season or what, but I cried almost the entire time. What an incredibly well done video. It really touched me. Thank you again- 😊

What a leader 503 became. What pain lived, what life experienced and shown, shared and repeated, what magestic beauty. By studying, by number a pattern of one life uniquely imprinted upon the glory of these golden shimmering lands. Being a number, allowed for a story to be told. Whoever came up with tracking numbers on bears, and those that studied, and learned and shared have just broken a wall, and left the field open to the stream of understanding, to touch each blade, each fin, each claw each ripple, and connect dots to form furthered knowledge and thus chance homeostasis by trusting it to be worth sharing. Thank you. I appreciate more, I fear less of the unknown and choose to focus on the balance of appreciation,respect, cost, and rebalancing, the imbalanced.my life woven, transfixed, now transforming.

Even though I know the story of 503 roughly and that he was adopted by Holly I didn’t know the part before that properly......it’s so heart wrenching and heartwarming at the same time, I cried all through this video!! Maybe 402 was so heartbroken about loosing her other cubs, that she was afraid to loose him too?! We’ll never know, and we can never ever see into the hearts and souls of any of these bears!! I’m only happy that he found the best family ever looking after him and Holly raising him! She is one of my favorite mother bears anyway! I love this patchwork family so much!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🥰 Thank you so much for sharing the full story!!

I am old as dirt and am a passiobate animal lover and I watch movies documentarys specials tik toks etc and this film has moved me in a way I cant wxplain theres SO MUCH about our world our wilderness OUR BEATLRS and wildlife this PLANET and how lucky we are to have it and Look what we are doing to it and now the WORLD IS ON FIRE and their thrratening nuclear war and this could be GONE in an INSTANT . Am very curious to know how you believe you're telling the bears apart as there's not a tag & Several of these bears were not the same bear, going by the markings I went back & looked for several times. So, how are you sure you know which bear is which & why do some have a name & number where 503 & 402 only have a number? Thank you

I have been watching the cams since 2013 and can recognize many of the bears. The rangers at Brooks Camp monitor the bears and assign them numbers. Only a few have nicknames. There is a Bears of Brooks ebook at the Katmai Nat. Park website that ID's the many bears.

The bears can often appear thinner & lighter/darker in color in the Spring after hibernation, over the summer they shed & grow new fur & many look very different & fatter in the fall. 503 arrives thin, long lanky legs, crescent shaped ears, curved lower jaw, dark eye rings, & lighter brown, but by fall he is a dark chocolate brown & fat lol.

Only a few of the cams give us sound and we usually don't get to hear the cubs. But, I would love to include the sounds of the bears if possible.

Family of three look more now like Rino's with all that Cozy warm Fat. they sure are ready set and go for a nice quiet Christmas Hibernating Dreams about giant bloats Floating in a little pond. fish tales wacking there Face to wake them for a suckle from Mom humming a winter song about blue berrys. coming soon salmon Buffet in the later Days of fall then wakes mom out of excitement.

It took me a while before I liked 402, but she has been a good mom to other cubs. My guess is she knew 856 would kill him. He has killed cubs before. And, I would also guess that when their bodies go back into estrus that they naturally push cubs away to protect them. Plus, 503 gained a step-sister. I believe he is the father of her first litter. Someone correct me if I am mistaken on that. God Bless!
