Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) for Parkinson's Disease | Missy's Story

Parkinson’s disease was keeping Missy from doing the things she enjoyed. Her husband challenged her to fight and Missy found Dr. Baltuch. Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) was performed and now she is back to living her life…the way she wants to.

Nice story. But we want advice where to go to conduct DBS operation. Specially if the parents has no medical insurance

DBS is not the holy grail to fix all Parkinson’s problems. Bilateral DBS can cause major swallowing, speech, anger issues. Unilateral is lot better if your symptoms are isolated on one side. Highly recommend you read several books about DBS prior to surgery. Guide to DBS by Sierra Farris is a good one. Also, consider rechargeable device to avoid infections during battery replacement surgeries that almost always require complete removal of hardware and redo of entire surgery
