ADDITIONS/ERRATA: -As has been pointed out elsewhere, the revised Armor Proficiency general feat scales to expert at Level 13! The warpriest can alternatively take this feat to get heavy armor proficiency. -I didn't catch that the L20 Avatar's Protection feat negates the critical hit, which definitely makes it better. I'm still not sure it stacks up to the other L20 feats though!

@@TheRulesLawyerRPGi think some of the most fun in pf2e is when you do go “off script” like this and for the most part there is a path that makes it work. Everytime i went off and tried to do something in 5e i ended up making a whole new class. I like what the remaster is doing to make the archetypes more useful (like the spell attack proficiency) I would highly recommend everyone to use free archetype optional rules

Oh Paizo and its cryptic verbiage. "If you failed to counteract but you would have if its counteract rank were 2 or lower, instead suppress the effect until the beginning of your next turn." could have simply been rephrased to "If you failed the counteract check by 2 or less, the effect is instead suppressed until the beginning of your next turn."
@SanguineSidereal
@SanguineSidereal Жыл бұрын
Those two sentences mean two very different things. The one in the remaster means you can suppress things of two more ranks than you can remove. So I could cure a Rank (Spell Level) 5 curse and suppress a Rank 7 curse. The one you suggest just increases your chance of succeeding at the counteract rank by 10% and does not allow you to effect higher Rank things.

So, depending on the enemy, the Avatar's Protection can be better than Channeling Block. First, since it turns the critical into a normal hit, they don't get deadly, fatal, or any other critical riders. That alone can save a decent chunk of health, if not life-saving in other ways. I don't have time right now for extensive research, but on a quick glance it looks like PL+3 enemies are easily averaging 30+ damage on a normal hit. That means another huge chunk negated from turning the crit into a success. And then on top of all that you get the temporary hit points from the transformation. On paper at least, it looks really good to me! We'll have to see how things go in the near future.
@TheRulesLawyerRPG
@TheRulesLawyerRPG Жыл бұрын
I missed the negating the crit part! Thanks. (Adding to pinned comment) Yeah I hesitate to say it's "trash" because what matters in the end for assessing things is how they performs on the margins. Staving off knockouts and death is "situational," but a situation you don't want to be in!
@pblaveh
@pblaveh Жыл бұрын
The feat looks pretty good to me. The crit negation can be really impactful as you pointed out, but the pure action economy advantage of casting a rank 10 two-action spell as a reacation is amazing, even if it is only once per day. I can only see 2 downsides: 1. You have to prepare Avatar each day you want to use it. 2. Being in Avatar Form might not be all that great anymore. Unless they buffed Avatar, its attack modifier for warpriests isn't any better than what you have with your favorite weapon anyway (and might in fact be 1 lower!). And you can't use many of they great new cleric feats while in avatar state.

I enjoy that it seems like the pure alignment damage AoEs like Divine Wrath that previously didn't hit good aligned allies are now hard-coded to only target enemies so it retains that benefit with the spirit damage changes. So retroactively tables can errata spells outside core like Radiant Beam to retain that benefit. In fact it's better if your group includes people that put evil on their character sheet. Because now that evil PC working with the team isn't hit by it when they would previously be.

I would say, for the cleric to Gorum taking harm while sanctifying as holy, I don't think that's really "being a holy necromancer", since harm can be used to, well, harm living creatures, and it's a safe bet this will be the main usecase for harm there, as a "the best defense is a good offense" tool.

The new versions of the Armor and Weapon Proficiency general feats scale up to expert, by the way. So that heavy armor warpriest feat will probably not see much use since you can get the same effect (minus the bulk-reduction hardly anyone cares for anyway) from a "cheaper" general feat. Cleric seems to be the big winner in the remaster. Warpriest has gotten at least the same amount of improvement as the witch and even cloistered cleric has some fun new things.

I just wanted to say that the three new clearing conditions spells could be much more powerful in a specific way I read it. They say pick an effect that imposes a condition, not a condition. This means it might remove a greater effect that may impose multiple conditions or other effects. Thinking like the crushing rune’s “effect” which imposes two conditions. Just a thought and it all depends on how you define the “effect imposing a condition” part.

Restorative strike would be pretty cool for a fighter-cleric, but I'm not sure if gnome flickmace is not a better option. I've just realised that if you have free archetype champion and cleric are a super cool archetype combo, since you can either be pretty tanky passively, and just shield all the effects, or a h/killing machine, allowing you to gimp the enemy, shift the weapon into a favoured form, and heal yourself AND an ally on a hit. I abso-freaking-luely adore it. And the warpriest could still use the 2 hardness from champion, since it will reduce by a bigger percentage when you channelling block.

Loved your content since moving to pf2e after the ogl. I run a warpriest who took medic dedication at lvl 2 w free archetype. At lvl 6 they don't have an option and aren't allowed to choose new dedication yet per raw. Curious how you would navigate this?

Mystic beacon is a pure nerfed focus spell. For me, weapon surge is nerfed as it's weaker at lower levels and doesn't do enough to be useful when 3d6 should apply. Weapon surge is a strictly worse ki strike (and sanctified strikes are not too hard to get)

So Player Core 2 will have 8 more classes. Will Paizo do something about the remaining 7 classes, or are they staying the same?

I've seen that Dreamer's Call was also changed- they're no longer off-guard on a success and you can't command them to stand still, but the daydream is now created in another space within range. Does it still have the incapacitation trait?

I love the idea of "lost out of time" characters from Starfinder in PF2, but also the other way around works, too!

@@TheRulesLawyerRPG I imagine a Starfinder character would probably initially think they've stumbled upon a new attraction at Golarion World.

Super late to this but does spiritual armament not count as a strike like spiritual weapon used to? I noticed the wording changed and I hope it's a missprint/oversight or something and it still counts as a strike. It sucks for clerics with animal companions if it doesn't count as a strike anymore.

So on the new Divine Font on Healing Font, it says ¨You can prepare only Heal spells (page 335) in these slots.¨ Do they mean only the ¨Heal¨ spell or all spells that has the ¨Healing¨ Trait?

Uh, that description for Daze is very odd?? Was daze changed to inflict flat footed? On the Divine list you posted it now says "cloud a creatures mind to make it Off-Guard or Slow", and daze currently does neither of those things

Sounds like they made Daze useful by making it off-guard on a failure?

@@lordcirthunfortunately I had someone check the PDF, this is just flat out incorrect information that somehow made it's way into the pdf. Daze is just as it was before, but instead of dealing spell mod, it deals 1d6. No Off-Guard anywhere to be seen

I assumed this ReMaster was going to fully replace the 2E system and so when we were doing some cleaning my wife convinced me to toss my old books out. Is that not the case? Will I need to rebuy those books?

I assume you would choose santification at character creation? If a character is a cleric of nethys they can choose holy or unholy. The book doesn't explicitly tell us to choose Holy or Unholy at character creation. Some character's deity gives them no choice so it makes sense to do it at character creation.

I was really hoping they would allow a warpriest to take strength as their primary stat. Being capped at 16 strength until lv5 makes the new level 2 heavy armour feat sound less appealing.
