Thank you Andrew. Love coming on the trip with you and looking and feeling all the ups and downs, the minutiae and bits and pieces that comes with overlanding.

Well, Andrew, I don't have a chance for overlanding, not even in a normal car just travel is impossible at the moment. Might change in the future. But your videos get my heart pumping again. Thank you for them. Unfortunately at the moment, I can't support you more than just watch your videos. But I am getting there

The last 20minutes of your video is exacly my thoughts about age and phones...very human video this one,thanks!
@Herbstfalke_Naturfotografie4 күн бұрын
What a wonderful video... yes and those thoughts of aging or what ever life situation... this is for me combined with overlanding. When you drive and fall into a meditative mood... then your suck all the energy out of our adventure. And this will not happen at home, there is always something... does not mean something bad but something. You are cut off everything and you are in the moment. This is one fundamental pillar of overlanding for me.

You know what he means though right? You understand the fundamental concept?
@trevorhicks78523 күн бұрын
@steph9445 I'm hoping that I understand the fundamental concept, Steph. My comment was a light hearted and friendly attempt to point out the irony that Andrew was criticising the overuse of phones ("get off your phones!!!"), when he himself makes his living from people watching his videos, more often than not I'm guessing, on their phones!! Hoping, Steph, you might be reading my reply on a non electronic device somehow, especially not your phone!

Andrew, well said, I agree, make an effort to enjoy the time with your loved ones, I have recently lost my wife, she was my companion and navigator on our adventures, oh yes I am so happy we enjoyed our trips, and did so at any and every opportunity.. unlike you I preferred company on my trips, and am now content we did so. And yes the frailty’s of getting old.. I am old, and you touched a nerve with your comments, and your very wise counsel.. get rid of the phones.. learn to enjoy the moment of “ here and now” thank you for another great episode, Best Regards

49:37 At some place I read about an overland couple who met a retired husband & wife overlanding in the Americas. Some years later the couple met the husband again, but now without his wife. The wife passed away a few years ago, but the now 80 something year old husband continued overlanding because what else would he do, he asked. ❤️

You had my attention in this video. BUT - when you started talking about “old age” (I’m 63) i started listening so much. Don’t know if I’m old ? Don’t feel like it ! I know your thoughts. Could write alot. A 90 year old mom who has lost the will to live………Makes you think about how you spend the rest of your life. 4x4 ! Been driving a Land Rover 1980 for years. Just bought a Jimny 2024. First brand new car ever. Not important what 4x4 it is. But it makes me smile……You’re so right. Get out. Live your life. Love your children - but remember to live while you can. Not to mention your thoughts about phones……. Think I’ll hire somebody the next time my wooden house in the forest has to be painted. Life is too short to fall from a ladder. A good important point. Lots of love from Denmark ❤

What a great video. I like the length of it. And really like that little chat at the 50min mark about living in the moment. And enjoying family. You have created such a good environment for yourself. Keep it up. Good to see you happy. And doing what you love. Also I have a troopy coming early 25 and I’d be interested in this new alloy setup you were talking about

54:39 Trips like these is what I plan to do when I retire. Going places in Central America. I’ve started, but as I’m employed by a multinational corporation I have to accept weekend trips and only a few longer ones, as of now. - I long for my retirement when I can focus of my overland interests only. I have a few more years of employment, and then I want to enjoy my last years exploring Central America and its wonderful culture.

As always: fantastic video! I have one question, bit trivial I suppose, but I am quite curious... I often see you have a bottle of beer. A bottle, not a tin. Being extremely conscious about all these payload/weight issues, also rubbish disposal in the outback and so on, aren't bottles rather problematic compared to tins? I travel around Europe, I barely ever experience vast uninhabited areas, I'm not even close to what you have in Australia, so it's just out of curiosity... Regards, M. D.
@aspwexperience3 сағат бұрын
I drink a beer so rarely, that I don't have to carry a lot. And I far prefer the ritual, and taste of beer from a bottle. Cans though, would be far more practical.

Interestingly my family doesn't really like the butcher bird because they are a bit territorial and scare the other birds away. Also there was a small background noise in the beginning, most people probably couldn't hear it on their phone and it was only mildly annoying but it was there.

13:59 I see Andrew. But don’t the older diesel engines like the ones in the 80 series Land Cruiser require more than 30 seconds to warm up ? I was under the impression that diesel engines of that era require longer start up time to get to operating temperature.
@Hightop_tlc5 күн бұрын
30 seconds, not enough... 30 minutes is too long. With my 1hz troopy I do about 1-2min in summer, maybe 5 in winter and baby it initially (until temp needle moves) to allow all fluids to warm up. That and preventative maintenance and 5k servicing has given me trouble free motoring and a car that's healthy as it was a decade ago
@KevinNiven5 күн бұрын
How often do you use it in 4 wheel drive?
@aspwexperience4 күн бұрын
Often. Very often. On a gravel road over 60kph, I'm in four-wheel drive. Rough bush track, I'm in 4-wheel drive. I believe 4-wheel drive is not for when one gets stuck. Its for safety, and prevents one from sliding, skidding, loosing traction and additional steering control especially at high speed (gravel only) and prevents bogging down in boggy situations and climbs.

Warming your engine up damages your engine. Gosh you do talk some rubbish sometimes mate.
@aspwexperience4 күн бұрын
That is not what I said! What I said was, get engine to temp as fast as possible with low throttle settings. Any slower and the engine runs too cool and it cokes up. 30 seconds to 1 minute is all it takes. Warming an engine by idling for too long is very bad for it.
