America's best kept secret. Even at the height of summer it's never 'busy'. In the winter you have the whole place to yourself. If you ever wonder whether your camping stuff is waterproof, you'll find out there! We used to go up there with my school to see the progress of the Elwha dam removal restoration project every year. After 3 years the area was completely unrecognizable from before - crazy how fast nature comes back in that area. You guys drove by lake crescent on your way to Port Angeles which was created from a landslide that dammed the existing outflow of the river and then filled up to empty in a different location. The whole area is a blast

Very cool video. It is awesome that you are able to do this with your wife. It's funny because we may have been stationed in that area at the same time. I was stationed at the submarine base from about 1987-1995. I did a tour on the USS Florida SSBN 728 Blue, and an instructor tour at Trident Training Facility Bangor. My Corpsman on the boat got the command to send myself and and another guy to EMT school at Bremerton Naval Hospital. He was the only HM we had, and he wanted some medical trained backup on the boat, so he sent a couple of submarine ETs to school! That training eventually parlayed itself into paramedic school and the current job I have as a professional fire fighter. If you ever get out here to Tennessee, let me know and I could show you around a bit. That was really cool to see that area again.

The BEST thing about camping, whether tent, in camper, backpacking or otherwise is waking up, making and sipping COFFEE! I like your wok-thing. This summer I did buy the little red fire, didn’t know until I saw these vids that you are supposed to turn the lid over and set it on top. I love it because it is manageable and have a little 5lb tank to go with it and/to my outdoor cook stove.
