An idea for the future if things freeze up in the steering rack like that again -- try heating up some rocks in a campfire, then placing under the affected area. Stuff some snow around the rocks to insulate the heat and direct it upwards towards the frozen part

When I retired in 1999, we drove from Colorado up the eastern Alaska Highway and returned on the Casiar Highway. Deadhorse was OK, but I’d highly recommend going to the top of Atigun Pass, look north and turn around. We spent 2+ months and drove 10,000 miles. Awesome adventure! We crossed at Chicken, AK on the way, then returned after ferrying from Haynes to Skagway back home. The Kenai is worth it. Hope, AK unique. Of course McCarthy and the Kinnicot mine. Denali if you get to see the entire mountain. I’ve seen the entire mountain now on all 5 trips I’ve made. Valdez is interesting where the pipeline ends to load onto ships. Lots of opportunities to see glaciers from driving and hiking up to, to taking a sea cruise to watch them calve. On and on…one month is a rush!

You’re welcome for the ride! And I usually lose internet in videos half way through, but that was very well done and we watched the whole thing! And then we watched the Utah one. I did mean to ask what drone that is you where using?

@arnegerhardsen3755 7 күн бұрын
Dear Rob. Thanks for your great review. I usually tend to always agree with you, but I just wanted to give a well intended advice from our experience in demanding winter conditions. In my hydrogeological job we often had to use spiked chains on all 4 wheels in towing equipment both offroad and on some snowy and icy wide hiking or tractor trails with an old LR Defender 90 with three lockers. With a little training new spiked chains are quick to mount if they are well adopted for your vehicle. Maybe we wasn't trained enough on mounting our snow socks because the few times we tried them they didn't increase the traction significantly compared with the spiked real wintertires from Nokian. And for use over some miles both the socks and the chains have to be proper mounted. Thanks for your great review and best wishes from Norway

The timing of the eagle shot, driving the convoy in the background, flying a drone, getting everything in frame, while keeping the focus of the camera perfected on all the main key points needs to be talked about more. That is no small feat to get all of that, especially given the terrain. 👏👏👏👏👏👏

The propane heater makes condensation, get a diesel heater, ull love it
@RevereOverland
@RevereOverland Жыл бұрын
This propane heater works like a diesel heater, but runs off propane instead. Burning diesel also produces condensation (and nasty fumes), but just like the Propex, it exhausts all that outside the tent. That’s how I was able to dry the tent out by turning the heater on in the morning. I had a diesel heater and hated it. Will had a diesel heater on this trip and hated it.

Really fun trip to watch. There is a big difference between off-road snow and on-road snow. When you packed down that wet snow, it became road snow. I had Nito Ridge grapplers on my Tacoma and they were garbage on road when it snowed. I’ve since changed them to Toyo open country AT 3’s which are night and day in the snow.
@RevereOverland
@RevereOverland Жыл бұрын
For someone driving a lot of packed snow I’d definitely recommend a 3PMSF tire, and neither the Recon or Ridge Grapplers are! My old AT3s were great in the snow. My KO2s were even better, although they were awful in pretty much every other way!

@@Jason-bd5iqYes, you are correct, I was told they have less traction than the ridge grapplers however, since this is also my daily driver, I didn't want to hear the tires over the radio. I've not had any issues going anywhere (not a big rock climber!) and they have enabled me to go everywhere. Out in Quartzsite, AZ on several pipeline roads and had no issues on either the hard pack, rocky, or sandy terrains. Would recommend them to anyone.

Always love your great content! I really like when you guys Collab together. On a personal note, I hope you guys, the KZbinrs. Received an extensive raise in pay via KZbin. Because yet again, they increased the time that each commercial break is. And the frequency that they occur. I know you guys have some control on how many commercials you have in each video. But I’m barely halfway through your video and there’s already been three breaks almost 3 minutes of commercial. Which doesn’t allow somebody to get into your video without having to put things on. Pause to wait for another commercial. If that wasn’t bad enough the commercial break seems to come mid sentence when you’re trying to explain something. Then when the commercial is over. I miss I portion of your conversation. So I have to rewind. And in KZbin fashion. Their algorithm puts commercials in during a break in your video. So anytime you pause or rewind. it tells their algorithm that there’s a break and a need for another commercial. I understand that you guys need to make money for all the hard work that it takes to put into these videos. But you do it mainly for entertainment purposes. When things stop being entertaining and turn to be annoying. Obviously nothing you can control. Your viewers, your customers, may choose to get their entertainment elsewhere. I can’t wait until somebody comes up with something to compete with KZbin. And before all of the haters start responding like the true “Internet tough people“. I have already tried the paid version of KZbin. Just like Hulu with no commercials. There are still commercials if you pay for KZbin. I’m not against commercials, I know, therefore. But between The overabundance of them on this platform and how they cut in to what you’re trying to watch. It gets really annoying. I hate to rant on your channel. But I do like watching it quite a bit. And as a content provider for KZbin. You do have ways to reach them a lot more proficiency than I do. I hope you keep on making your videos. And the second, the very second, you moved to a different platform. I will follow you there. Hopefully it’s better than themoney grabbing SOB’s that run KZbin
@RevereOverland
@RevereOverland Жыл бұрын
3 minutes?? That’s crazy. And you can’t skip? I ended up getting KZbin premium so I could download videos for my son on our flights, and haven’t been able to go back to watching ads. They’re so annoying.
@pontiacwolf
@pontiacwolf Жыл бұрын
@@RevereOverland sometimes you can skip them. But I don’t know if it’s a glitch. On a couple of commercials, it will have a countdown till when you can Skip. As soon as it reaches zero. It jumps to another commercial. And the countdown starts all over. Or it’s a commercial that doesn’t have a skippable option. KZbin just recently did commercial layout and platform. Which also extended the time that the commercials played this is the fourth or fifth time this year, where they have doubled, the length of each commercial segment. I know a little bit about advertising. What I do know is that people are usually paid for any advertising done during their programming. I’m not sure if you and your colleagues know that this is happening. But if you haven’t gotten any increase in pay based on the same parameters like views, or any other ways that KZbin pays you. You should’ve at least gotten some type of pay increase five times this year. Based on their length increase. For example, at the beginning of the year, KZbin had mainly two different types of commercials. One was five seconds long, the other one was 15 seconds long. The 15 seconds one for the most part could be skipped after five seconds. Then they raised it to a six second one and a 22nd one with the 22nd one being able to be skipped after five seconds. fast-forward till now. Now they are a minimum of 10 to 20 seconds long all the way up to two minutes and 30 seconds. The longer ones usually are able to be skipped but not all the time. I was watching music videos with my son and on a three minute and 12 second music video. We had to wait for a three minute long commercial. when that happens I just quit watching for a couple days. I know it sounds like I’m complaining. You and some of the people that are in your videos aren’t guilty of this. But when you have a KZbinr that also advertises. You will click on their video to watch them. Right away a commercial comes on. Then as soon as that commercials done. Then they go and advertise whatever product they are promoting. Like a G one. After they’re done doing that algorithms sees a break in their programming. Then another commercial comes on from KZbin. By that time I am well over five minutes into watching their video. If they’re only 25 to 30 minutes long.that stops being entertaining. Oh, and then to boot the person whose video you’re watching. Is wearing a hat A T-shirt and they end up talking about the item in their video. So if you add that to the overabundant extended commercials that KZbin has. One could say that you’re just watching one long commercial. The whole reason why I started watching KZbin. As many of us have the same reason. As we were tired of paying for cable or satellite and having that bill, go up every month just to watch an overabundance of commercial advertising through that platform. But at least their commercials came during a break and not during mid sentence like the algorithm that KZbin has. Please keep pumping out your videos. And like I said if there is another platform that comes out that you’re able to move over to. I will be the first one to sign up. Have a merry Christmas. I hope you and your family have a fun and safe holiday.

Great job guys. The tire socks do work, keep tire spin down they do rip easy. The tracks will work is you have multiple tracks. 2 tracks are a joke for most situations, 4 are better 6 are great. If I'm by myself I carry 6. If I'm in a group who also have them I carry 2 because we can use each others. For your camper locks 🔒 and other things to keep from freezing up WD40 works great. Just spray them down before your run. Can be messy and if you don't like that you can get lubricant for locks a dry lube that works great also. 👍

@RevereOverland I believe in one of your gear videos you mentioned that propane heaters cause a lot of condensation because of its combustion system compared to diesel heaters. Do you think this is still the reason for your condensation issue rather than it just being the tent's material makeup? Maybe try to borrow a diesel heater one night and see if you get different results. Fantastic video btw!

Burning propane does produce moisture, but the Propex is a heat exchanger, so the combustion exhaust is completely separate from the hot air going into the tent. Heaters like the Buddy heater burn the propane inside the tent, which is where you get condensation from the heater itself.

@e-verland burning diesel also produces H2O. See my answer above as to why that doesn't matter.

@e-verland gotcha. In my case it's 100% the tent's fault. The material isn't breathable and there's no vent, so if I don't run the heater enough then condensation from me breathing builds up.

@e-verland I don't use a Buddy heater. Not only is the moisture terrible, but they're also very dangerous in a tent!

I had a Ford Ranger FX4 that the steering would freeze up like that if I didn't brush out every bit of snow and slush before shutting it down on a cold snowy night. The engine heat would keep it melted while driving.

What an incredible adventure! The perfect video to document your mile stone of 100k congratulations! We love our diesel heater! We do add Diesel Fuel Supplement when the temps start to really drop to minimize gelling. We've never had any issues with condensation in our GFC campers with dry forced air heat. We love winter camping! No bugs and only those who enjoy the outdoors as much as we do. 😊 We also enjoyed shopping on RevereOverland for our Maxtrax accessories. Thank you Rob! It was so nice to meet you at Overland East this year. We hooe you enjoyed the Chocolate Mousse Bomb alng with all the other treats. Thank you! I very much enjoyed the chocolate cake and the card! It’s very much appreciated. The GFC is amazing for how light and efficient it is. A diesel heater (or similar) solves all the condensation issues.

We live in Boise and if offroading in snow, run with chains, no substitute, dont need them often but when you do they work and would have made short work of the ledge road

You definitely can’t beat chains for stuff like that. Well… not without spending big money on tracks!

Nathan in the Tundra went and stayed at his cabin. He joined us on and off throughout the trip. We also had a couple of other guys drop by briefly. Will (Venture2Roam) did a better job of talking about the people there, where I was more focused on the scenery.

Congrats on the 100K! Great outing with some great folks! How did the heater work for both tents?
@RevereOverland
@RevereOverland Жыл бұрын
Thank you! The heater is significantly less effective when you split it. It's like you get 20% of the heat when it's split in half. It was enough to keep us comfortable and the condensation under control though.
