Great video as usual Rob! Did you have any issues in deep snow with the tundra? Trans heat, ect. Did you use the "deep snow" terrain select and keep it locked in 2nd gear?

Look almost dead center of the screen and notice a black animal running across a clearing between the brush and the tree line. Is that your dog, or a bear? lol 13:51

So if it's the cabin I found online, it's only partially constructed and was probably shallow enough that it was buried in the snow. Good eye, regardless!

I just looked it up and saw a square of logs. It looks like our three sticks provide more shelter!
Since I live in Canada, I’m considering buying a dedicated GPS for overlanding. In the past couple years, all the cell phone service providers across the board have increased their roaming charges to about $13/day. Since apps like Gaia and OnX rely on cell service anyway, I’m seriously thinking of getting a Garmin. Downloading maps for offline use doesn’t help me much when I’m out there in the country already. I can’t plan that far ahead from home, so I’m going to bite the bullet and leave my phone at home. It seems to me to be the best solution to a navigation system when outside of your home country.

Sounds like you like your choice of the AT4/W tires. Do you have any regrets, or comparison of performance to other tires your friends may have upgraded to, like the KO3 for example? I'm in the market and not snow wheeling, but PNW year round driving/towing travel trailer (near payload limits, probably similar to your rig), etc. I'm in a F150, so similar size truck. AT4/W looks great for towing and heavy payloads, and should be solid on wet roads, but really second guessing with conflicting snow/ice performance reports out there on youtube reviews (e.g. the TFLoffroad review)
@RevereOverland16 сағат бұрын
The AT4Ws were really good in the packed snow and slush on the highways out there, but I didn't see much advantage in the deep powdery snow. I do see them being really good in the icy spring snow though! I've never run KO3s, but I'd like to give them a go.

OK now I see, rob likes Toyota pickups because they ride a little better than the bouncing jeeps. Also he's got a half size space on top to sleep in when he opens it up.

If you have a snorkel mounted and I'm thinking about some really deep pools of water to go through just remember that if you don't have your rubber gasket properly installed you'll get lots of contamination in your gearboxes that require a heck of a recovery. Some people just keep driving with water contamination in their gearboxes but they'll pay later I wish somebody would go back to the fellow who claims that regular size tires are equal to big wide fat. I'd like to know for sure because everybody loves the look of the big fat tires.

Rob is the master of the hydro view and one of the reasons I TuneIn to his website whenever I see it available. Remember, to get some of these grates drone views, Rob has to be dropped in the front of the route, get the drone up and get the great shots of the vehicles coming through the scene, and then be picked up way in the front of the route again. Where's the all of these great drone shots require Rob to make a route travel twice so we can get in front of the whole group for these great shots.

I’ve been off-roading all over the US & have never had any car troubles, I’m on a stock Colorado ZR2. Maybe it’s the fact you guys do all this stuff to your rigs. Almost every video I see of you something happens to your rig or the rig of who you’re with. Maybe it’s all the additional stuff you do to your trucks?

Modifying your vehicle is definitely going to increase the chances of something going wrong, although off the top of my head I can't think of any problems I've had that are directly attributed to properly done modifications. A tire valve stem breaking is easy enough to do on a rock or branch.

Does the Jeep Venture handle this kind of snow best of all the vehicles in your party?
@RevereOverland4 күн бұрын
In this particular situation it did, but I think that's more down to the tires, weight of the vehicle, and driver than it is the vehicle itself.

do you have any updates on the sway-bar link issue? What did you end-up doing in the end?
@RevereOverland4 күн бұрын
I switched them out to aftermarket links from Baja Kits. Dobinsons makes some nice ones now.
@ClimbAClassic4 күн бұрын
I just installed dobinsons - let’s see how they hold up. I think it’s a geometry problem with the shorter stock links - they get stretched out by the sway bar during flex, flip over and break. I got dobinsons adjusted such that the sway bar is now parallel with the lower control arm, let’s see what happens.

This is a good example of chains not being the ideal choice for deep soft snow. Airing down is more beneficial in these situation. Chains are perfect for hard compact snow or ice.
@RevereOverland4 күн бұрын
While I agree that chains are not always the answer, they definitely did help get me going. Airing down might have also done the same, but the snow was so powdery that there was no floating on top of it. I definitely should have aired down the front tires though.

Sick video, as always! Do you make this music, Rob, or just pay for the rights to use it? It's like calming ASMR. You somehow capture fairly extreme truck stuff (beautifully) and found a way to make it not only engaging to watch, but also relaxing. It's brilliant.

I would choose a DIY prismatic cell LFP over both battery options presented. Over 300 Ah in the same or slightly smaller footprint than the 100Ah shown at a fraction of the price. Requires a separate low cost BMS.
