The driving force of this band for me has always been Ian Paice on the drums. What speed and power, and he can play a groove so deep your Jeep could get stuck in it.

Absolutely - every song on Made In Japan literally blows away the studio versions - which are GREAT - until you hear them live. It’s the same with the MKIII lineup Made In Europe. The fact is - back in the day NOBODY beat a live DP show - and I saw them many times back then.

Just saw them with Yes as warm up Saturday night! They opened with this song. Played a lot off their new album and did a great version of Lazy. Encore was Green Onions into Hush and closed with Black Night! Sounded very tight. The new guitar player and Don Airey on keyboards was fantastic!

Glad that you noticed Roger Glover's brilliant bass lines 😊 They are quite tricky actually. You should definitely check out the isolated bass track of this song. You might get surprised how hard it is to play like Roger plays it. Great reaction, as always ❤❤❤ Thank you so much and greetings from Finland 🎉

I agree, RG gets too limited credit on average. He was a solid, dependable bass player and together with Paice were Purple's steel backbone, but he also played some technically really good lines. Check out "No, No, No" on the Fireball album.

Brilliant! Although I've heard this so, so many times, I've only just realised how near-on impossible it would be to fit a few more notes in there somewhere! Imagine getting there for one of the morning gigs, after a good night out previously, and this was the show-opener? Classic! FYI: The track was written on a bus on the way to one of their gigs on our South Coast after enquiries from a Press Reporter travelling with them, on how they go about writing a song? Created the basics right there in front of him, finished it off at rehearsals and then played it in the gig for him that night!

Wow is right, this entire album contains for me, and many others, the definitive versions of those great songs, as they do stay true to the most of the studio originals but are less restrained and really let go at times. This entire album is their best lineup at their very best live. Bangers all the way through. If you want to see Ritchie Blackmore just go off, do his live blast off in front of a quarter million fans at the legendary California Jam in 1974. This was the Mach 3 lineup but it did not matter to those coming to hear those monstrous riffs and the hot new Burn album and lineup. Try You Fool No One from that concert, first Jon Lord on organ and then Ritchie on his famous Fender Strat just go off, Blackmore has the crowd mesmerized in one of his very best extended solos. This song, in a slightly different version, is also on their Made in Europe live album and that guitar solo is arguably as good or better than the one caught on video mentioned above. These would enlighten both of you to the incredible talent Ritchie was back in the day. I saw that tour twice and it is very much worth your time to see/hear greatness. Enjoy! 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶🔥

Hi guys awesome reaction. I have a story about this album , as a 12 yr old in 73 and just getting into Purple. I couldn't afford the full double album so i went halves with my mate and we bought the album together and then split it . I had the first part and he had the second then we swapped after about 6months. Brilliant album from Deep Purple one of my favorite all time albums. ❤

One of the things I like about this album is that, maybe because they only had eight tracks to record to, Gillan's voice is quite dry and focused in the mix. You get to hear how good his live vocals actually were at this time, even if he wasn't happy with his performances.

Florida State Trooper clocked my Corvette at 138 MPH with this song playing on the tape deck, back in the day on the nearly empty turnpike extension in SW Miami (it had just opened for public use a few days earlier). Funny thing that Chevrolet said the top end for my car was 123 and I still had pedal left. He let me go with a warning because I slowed down, pulled over and waited for him to catch up to me from where he was pulled over behind some palm trees. He said that he never would have been able to catch me. How many tickets did this song inspire ?

One of the most amazing things about this live album (Made in Japan) is that it was recorded by the infamous "Rolling truck Stones thing" ie a mobile studio in a van. And due to its limitations, wait for it... it was mixed live and recorded directly to stereo.
@RushfanUK4 ай бұрын
It was recorded using equipment supplied by Warners Bros that wasn't particularly good, the Stones Mobile was nowhere near it.
@jimled50jl494 ай бұрын
@@RushfanUK I believe the confusion is the album from which Highway Star was taken was "Machine Head" which with numerous other tracks also done on "Live in Japan" was indeed recorded in 1971 in Montreux in The Rolling Stones Mobile, hence the lyrics to "Smoke on the Water" and it was after the fire they moved to The Grand Hotel which they hated....and The Rolling Stones Mobile as the lyrics said " The Rolling truck Stones thing just outside ".

There are 2 live Version. A few month before this one, there were recorded by bbc. In concert, a smaller venue. Check out that different live one. Organ solo seems Sound being worked out because of bbc recording, jon lord might have. But Ritchie. Ritchies climax solo is exploding! Deep Purple in concert 1972 Intro Mike Harding Musically it is Bach Harmonie, Mozart appregios. And Rock'n Roll wise as they said on IN ROCK : A few roots replanted 🤷
