absolutely, Jon Lord was the world's best keyboard player, no doubt about that

He was not only the greatest keyboardist but also the defining sound which separated Mark 2 from everyone else. His creative variations were unparalleled and he was the leading contributor to the creation of Mark 2's own genre. A genre of which only they ever played.

Maybe Blackmore can't be replaced but Steve Morse sure hell does a superb job playing his songs. He's an excellent player, he deserves to play with Deep Purple.
@Relayer6a2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Ritchie can't be replaced. But if you're going to have another guitarist it doesn't hurt to choose one that is technically far better. And Steve just loves to play live. You can tell it's not work for him to be on stage performing for a live audience.
@seabud6408Ай бұрын
@@Relayer6a It true that he’s technically better .. but he’s not the guy who is behind the success of Purple and Rainbow and Blackmore’s Night .. I love Steve as a person and a musician but he didn’t come up with those killer parts riffs and solos, great as he is in his field.
@Relayer6aАй бұрын
@@seabud6408 Never said he did. I agreed Ritchie couldn't be replaced.

Was at this concert. Sat above and behind the control desk for all the cameras and if I wanted to see what was going on stage just had to look down at a huge monitor to see what is in this video. I could see the play list of all the songs before they were played so I knew what was coming up. The best seats in the house for one of the best concerts I have seen. And then to find out the concert I went to was on video just made it even better. Unfortunately I am old enough now to have all my childhood/adulthood band members leaving me and yet while there are people who are dismissing Steve for not being as good as Ritchie, as long as the music is being performed by who ever, it is still great music and can always give you a lift in life from no matter where you are and make you want to keep going. RIP all of our fallen performers.
@seabud6408Ай бұрын
He’s as good .. just he’s not Ritchie and Ritchie came up with much of the stuff that made Purples reputation / success . It’s the writing as much as the playing .. who would want to follow Ritchie in a band but he has done an incredible job .

We wore out so many eight tracks of this, even with the good rubber wheels, we just played them constantly, I thought could never get any better,,,then I saw Joe Bonamassa with Jimmy Barnes,,,was elated,,,now this?!?! Have I died and gone to heaven? If not I prefer here...thanks so much for posting, some of us old timers it seems to take a bit longer...:)

Jon was the one whom motivates me to be a fan of DP in 1976. At the age of 15 I bought my first Lp of DP live in Europe, in a store called kresge's here in Puerto Rico. I still have the record in a near mint condition. I always enjoy his virtuosity on the keyboard. Jon Lord R.I.P, we will miss you a lot!!!!!

Jon Lord on the Hammond is like no other earthly sound; he's a bonafide genius. Personally, I found no fault with any of the musicians, and I have listened to this song for yeeeeears. When Ian missed the top of the slide, I think internally he just said, "FUG IT," and continued singing...and he STILL sounded amazing.

Remember playing machine head on a 8 track craig stereo with jensen speakers in my 68 Chevelle SS 396 with a lid and a frisbie under the seat would drive around country roads all night miss those days

This was one of my favorite bands from my childhood, but they had many years of down time and Steve Morse re-energized them to stardom again. When asked if he thought he could fill Blackmore's boots, Morse replied, "He took his boots with him when he left ". Steve is the man! Also, what a loss when Lord died, he is a legend!!!

Music is subject to continuous alteration and a living thing. Especially solos are a means of free expression for an artist. Replaying solos of others is not the real thing. So I say "Very well done, Steve!".

Mindboggling. Those singleminded simpleton radio station hosts will never get it, they are too busy playing a limited set of other well known (sometimes deservedly so) pieces to death. All the better. This is pure art to which one must pay full attention. Thank you DP for posting it.
